Hunslet Mill

Knowsthorpe, Knostrop or Knostropp is an area of Leeds, West Yorkshire, England, on the River Aire. The spelling "Knostrop" is predominantly used for the large water treatment works in the area. Leeds South is a parliamentary constituency in the city of Leeds, West Yorkshire, which returns one Member of Parliament (MP) to the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. The constituency existed from 1885 to 1983 and was recreated in 2024 following the 2023 Periodic Review of Westminster constituencies. In the 2024 general election, the seat was won by Hilary Benn of the Labour Party, who serves as Secretary of State for Northern Ireland in the government of Keir Starmer. Benn had represented Leeds Central, the main predecessor of Leeds South, since 1999. Leeds South was the seat of the former Leader of the Labour Party, the late Hugh Gaitskell, and the former Home Secretary Merlyn Rees.

Hunslet (English: ) is an inner-city area in south Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. It is 1 mile (1.6 km) southeast of the city centre and has an industrial past. It is situated in the Hunslet and Riverside ward of Leeds City Council and Leeds Central parliamentary constituency. The population of the previous City and Hunslet council ward at the 2011 census was 33,705.Many engineering companies were based in Hunslet, including John Fowler & Co. manufacturers of traction engines and steam rollers, the Hunslet Engine Company builders of locomotives (including those used during the construction of the Channel Tunnel), Kitson & Co., Manning Wardle and Hudswell Clarke. Many railway locomotives were built in the Jack Lane area of Hunslet. The area has a mixture of modern and 19th century industrial buildings, terraced housing and 20th century housing. It is an area that has grown up significantly around the River Aire in the early years of the 21st century, especially with the construction of modern riverside flats. It was at one point the main production site for Leeds Creamware, a type of pottery (still produced) so called because of its cream glazing. Hunslet is now prospering as it follows the trend of Leeds generally and the expansion of office and industrial sites south of Leeds city centre.

Mount St Mary's Church or the Church of the Immaculate Virgin Mary is a Grade II* listed building and a redundant Roman Catholic church in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. It was founded in 1851 and designed by Joseph Hansom, with extensions by Edward Pugin. It is next to Mount St Mary's Catholic High School, Leeds.

East End Park is an inner city area of east Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. It is situated between Burmantofts to the north west, Harehills to the north east (although not a direct neighbour), Halton Moor to the east, Richmond Hill to the west and Cross Green to the south west. It blends into the Halton Moor/Osmondthorpe area and is 1 mile to the east of Leeds city centre in the LS9 Leeds postcode area.

Richmond Hill is a district of Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. The district lies a mile to the east of the city centre between York Road (A64 road), East End Park and Cross Green. The appropriate City of Leeds ward is Burmantofts and Richmond Hill.

Hunslet was a rural district of the administrative county of Yorkshire, West Riding from 1894 to 1937. The rural district was created by the Local Government Act 1894 as successor to the Hunslet Rural Sanitary District. It lay to the south of the county borough of Leeds, and initially consisted of four civil parishes: Middleton Oulton with Woodlesford Templenewsham Thorpe StapletonThe council offices were in Hunslet within the county borough. In 1920 the area of the rural district was reduced when Middleton was included in the enlarged boundaries of Leeds. Five years later the parish of Thorpe Stapleton, with a population at the 1921 census of just 23, was absorbed by Templenewsham. In 1928 a further extension of the City of Leeds took in Templenewsham, leaving the rural district with the single parish of Oulton with Woodlesford. The district was abolished in 1937 by a county review order, with its area included in an enlarged Rothwell Urban District.

Leeds Midland Road depot is a locomotive and rolling stock maintenance facility located in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. The site is located a few miles to the south-east of Leeds station on the line between Leeds and Castleford. Owned and operated by Freightliner, it is the heavy maintenance facility for its diesel and electric locomotives and wagon fleet.

Richmond Hill Tunnel is a railway tunnel to the east of Leeds city centre, in West Yorkshire, England. The tunnel is known to be the first in the world specifically designed to carry passengers to be worked by steam trains rather than a stationary engine. One of the innovative methods employed to reassure passengers going through the lightless tunnel, was to place copper sheets underneath the air shafts which were intended to reflect the light around the tunnel. The original Richmond Hill Tunnel was 700 yards (640 m) long, but in 1894, it was widened into a cutting with a shorter tunnel, which is the existing structure in use today. The present Richmond Hill Tunnel is 118 yards (108 m) long, and is part of the longer Marsh Lane Cutting, which connects the eastward entrance and exit into Leeds railway station to the lines going towards Selby and York. The railway line through Richmond Hill is part of the TransPennine Line which connects Manchester and Leeds, with Selby, York and Hull.

Armouries Square is a large public square in central Leeds, West Yorkshire, United Kingdom, adjacent to the Royal Armouries Museum, after which it is named.It was opened as part of a regeneration project which sought to update the area around Leeds Dock with the square being a hard-standing display area for displays by the Royal Armouries Museum.
