Auning is a minor town on the main road between Randers and Grenå, with a population of 3,134 (1 January 2023). It is located in Region Midtjylland and in Norddjurs Municipality. It used to be one of the two major towns in the abolished Sønderhald Municipality, the other being Assentoft which now belongs to Randers Municipality.

Until 1 January 2007 Sønderhald municipality was a municipality (Danish, kommune) in the former Aarhus County in the eastern part of the Jutland peninsula (Djurs) in central Denmark. It covered an area of 138 km2, and had a total population of 8.503 (2005). Its last mayor was Kirsten Wyrtz, a member of the Social Democrats (Socialdemokraterne) political party. The site of its municipal council was Auning. Other towns in the municipality were Assentoft, Uggelhuse, and Øster Alling. The municipality was created in 1970 due to a kommunalreform ("Municipality Reform") that combined a number of existing parishes: Auning Parish Essenbæk Parish Fausing Parish Hørning Parish Vester Alling Parish Virring Parish Årslev Parish Øster Alling ParishSønderhald municipality ceased to exist due to Kommunalreformen ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007). The eastern part of the municipality was combined with Nørre Djurs, Rougsø and Grenaa municipalities to form the new Norddjurs municipality. This created a municipality with an area of 661 km2 and a total population of 34,382 (2005). The new municipality belongs to Region Midtjylland ("Mid-Jutland Region"). The remainder was incorporated into an enlarged Randers municipality along with Randers, Nørhald, and Purhus municipalities, as well as parts of Mariager and Langå.

Hvilsager is a village of Djursland located in Hvilsager Parish and Syddjurs Municipality. The Indian anthropologist G. Prakash Reddy did field work in the village in 1989, and published his observations in the book Sådan er danskerne! En indisk antropologs perspektiv på det danske samfund, translated into English as Danes are like that! Perspectives of an Indian anthropologist on the Danish society.

Skaføgård is a manor house in the parish of Hvilsager in Syddjurs Municipality in the eastern Jutland peninsula of Djursland, Denmark. It is not one of Denmark's largest manor-houses, but one of the best preserved. Inside there is an enormous oak closet carved by the Dutch carpenter Mikkel van Gronningen whose most famous work is the pulpit in Århus Cathedral. The closet covers 13 m2 (140 sq ft) of wall space and, in view of its rich detail, is considered to be one of the most outstanding examples of carved wooden Renaissance furniture in Northern Europe.

DR 110, or the Virring stone, is a runestone made of granite that measures 155 cm (61 in) in height, 120 cm (47 in) in width and 27 cm (11 in) in thickness. It is written in Old East Norse in the Younger Futhark, and the runestone style is in a form called RAK.It was discovered in 1865 being used as the threshold for the church porch in the church of Virring in Denmark. It is tentatively dated to the period 900-960 based on the runes and the language. It had been severely worn down so many runes are missing.A peculiarity in the inscription is the m rune which has a rounded top(). It also contains an invocation to the Norse god Thor (Þor wigi þæssi kumbl), which it shares with a number of other runestones in Sweden and Denmark: the Rök runestone (Þōrr), the Velanda Runestone (Þorr vigi), Glavendrup stone (Þor wigi þæssi runaʀ), Sønder Kirkeby Runestone (Þor wigi runaʀ) and possibly Sö 140 (Siði(?) Þorr(?)).

Mørke station is a railway station serving the railway town of Mørke on the peninsula of Djursland in Jutland, Denmark.The station is located on the Grenaa railway line between Aarhus and Grenaa. It opened in 1877 with the opening of the Aarhus-Ryomgård section of the railway line. Since 2019, the station has been served by the Aarhus light rail system, a tram-train network combining tram lines in the city of Aarhus with operation on railway lines in the surrounding countryside.

Rosenholm Castle (Danish: Rosenholm Slot) is Denmark's oldest family-owned castle. It is located on Djursland, north of Hornslet and northeast of Aarhus. It is one of the best-preserved complexes from the golden age of the manor house – from 1550 to 1630.

Mørke is a town located in East Jutland, on the southwestern part of the Djursland peninsula, Denmark. It is a commuter town of the city of Aarhus, which lies approximately 26 kilometers to the southwest, and a railway town at Grenaabanen, the railroad between the cities of Aarhus and Grenaa. Mørke is located in Syddjurs Municipality, which in turn is part of Region Midtjylland, and has a population of 1,694 (1 January 2023).Mørke is served by Mørke railway station, located on the Grenaa railway line between Aarhus and Grenaa. The 2005 Danish film Murk (Danish: Mørke) by Jannik Johansen is named for the town.

The Sjellebro Stone is a Viking Age image stone located at Sjellbro, which is about 12 kilometers southeast of Randers, Denmark. The stone is inscribed with a facial mask.

The municipality covered an area of 141 km2, and had a total population of 10.325 (2005). Its last mayor was Richard Volander, a member of the Venstre (Liberal Party) political party. The main town and the site of its municipal council was the town of Hornslet. Rosenholm municipality ceased to exist as the result of Kommunalreformen ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007). It was merged with Ebeltoft, Midtdjurs, and Rønde municipalities to form the new Syddjurs municipality. This created a municipality with an area of 693 km2 and a total population of 40,196 (2005). The new municipality belongs to Region Midtjylland ("Mid-Jutland Region").

Hornslet is a town located in East Jutland, on the southwestern part of the Djursland peninsula, Denmark. It is a commuter town of the city of Aarhus, which lies approximately 28 kilometers to the southwest, and a railway town at Grenaabanen, the railroad between the cities of Aarhus and Grenaa. Hornslet is located in Syddjurs Municipality, which in turn is part of Region Midtjylland, and has a population of 6,328 (1 January 2023).Rosenholm Castle, which belongs to the family Rosenkrantz, is located immediately outside the town. The castle was recently best known for having given facilities to DR's julekalender "Christmas at the Castle" from 1986. In the past, Hornslet was the largest town in and municipal seat of Rosenholm Municipality. 1. January 2007, it was merged with the neighbouring municipality of Rønde, to form the current Syddjurs Municipality. In 2008 a spectacular collapse of a wind turbine took place, which was filmed.
