Lewisham station

The Lewisham Odeon was a cinema located in Lewisham, London, England. It opened in 1932 as the Gaumont Palace with the films Westward Passage and The Midshipmaid. With 3,050 seats it was among the UK's largest cinemas. The building reopened in 1962 as the Lewisham Odeon after being closed for several months due to a fire. Concerts were also staged at the cinema by artists such as David Bowie, Status Quo, Nat King Cole, Johnny Cash, The Beatles, Ray Charles, The Rolling Stones, The Supremes, Rod Stewart, The Clash, The Specials, Adam and The Ants and The Who. After closure, the entire building was demolished in 1991 for a road widening scheme.

Renaissance is a mixed-use development designed by Assael Architecture and commissioned by Barratt Homes in Lewisham, Greater London comprising 788 flats in 10 buildings, retail units at ground level, a district heating centre and the Glass Mill leisure centre designed by LA Architects.

Prendergast Vale School is a mixed all-through school located in the Lewisham area of the London Borough of Lewisham, England.The school was first established as Lewisham Bridge Primary School. The school was renamed Prendergast Vale School in September 2011 as par when it began to accept secondary school age pupils. The former primary school has been refurbished and developed to accommodate a full all-through school.Prendergast Vale School is a foundation school and is part of the Worshipful Company of Leathersellers federation of schools, which also includes Prendergast School and Prendergast Ladywell School.

The Migration Museum is a museum in London, England, devoted to the movement of people to and from the United Kingdom. The Migration Museum Project was founded in 2011 by Barbara Roche, a former Minister of State for Immigration. From 2013 it held a series of popup exhibitions and other activities. The museum opened in its first temporary base at the headquarters of the London Fire Brigade in Lewisham in 2017. Since 2020 it has been based in Lewisham Shopping Centre in south-east London, but in February 2023 it obtained planning permission for a permanent base in the City of London. In 2023 and 2024 the museum staged a touring exhibition on "Migration and the Making of the NHS", in Leicester from July to October 2023, in the Trinity Leeds shopping centre in Leeds, West Yorkshire from November 2023 to February 2024, and then in London.Outside the museum's entrance stands a sculpture named Wall, consisting of two panels from the former Berlin Wall, painted by artists Stik and Thierry Noir.The chair of the museum's trustees is Charles Gurassa.The Migration Museum is mentioned on the website of the International Coalition of Sites of Conscience, but as of November 2023 does not appear in the list of members on that site. It has been given "Museum of Sanctuary" status by the charity City of Sanctuary.

Lewisham Shopping Centre, formerly Riverdale Centre, is a shopping mall located in Lewisham, London, England. The centre is the major shopping centre in the London Borough of Lewisham. Also part of the complex is the Lewisham House office tower, formerly occupied by Citibank. There are proposals to convert this building to flats.The centre is located in Lewisham town centre and was built over the former streets Rhyme Road and Romer Avenue. The official address is on Molesworth Street (a dual carriageway section of the A21). The car park is located on the upper levels. Facilities at the centre include public toilets with baby changing, photobooths and ATMs. Since the Docklands Light Railway extension from Island Gardens reached Lewisham the centre experienced an increase in customers.

On 28 June 1857, two trains collided just east of Lewisham railway station in London, killing 11 and injuring 30 more. The 14-carriage 9:15pm from Strood, which was running 15 minutes late, pulled up 200 yards short of Lewisham station at a red signal. The guard took a red lamp to the rear of the train to warn the 9:30 train following. When he heard the approaching train he ran towards it blowing his whistle and waving the lamp. It appears that he was not seen by the driver and the standing train was struck at a speed of around 20 mph (30 km/h), destroying the brake van and rear carriage. A telegraph system was in place which should have prevented the second train from leaving the preceding Blackheath station until the leading train had cleared Lewisham, using a system of signal bells being rung in the signal boxes. The signals sent and received were recorded in registers kept in the signal boxes: the investigation determined that the line-clear signal had not been sent by the Lewisham signal box, despite being recorded in the Blackheath book. The driver and fireman of the second train and the Blackheath signalman were charged with "neglect of duty causing the deaths of 11 persons".

Lewisham Police Station is a police station in Lewisham High Street in the London Borough of Lewisham.

Elverson Road is a Docklands Light Railway (DLR) station in the St John's area of Lewisham in south east London, and situated in a residential neighbourhood. Opening in 1999 as part of the Lewisham extension, Elverson road station is one of the newer stations of the DLR network situated between Lewisham and Deptford Bridge. The service pattern is as follows: 15 tph to Lewisham, calling at Lewisham only from platform 1. 15 tph to Bank, calling at Deptford Bridge, Greenwich, Cutty Sark, Island Gardens, Mudchute, Crossharbour, South Quay, Canary Wharf and West India Quay. Some trains at peak hours branch off here for Stratford. Trains then run to Westferry, Limehouse and Shadwell where some peak trains will head for Tower Gateway, and the rest will call at Bank. These services depart from platform 2. Upon opening, the station was one of the most lightly used on the DLR network, but traffic has increased significantly following the construction of several new apartment complexes in the area. The station is located between Deptford Bridge and Lewisham stations, and is on the boundary of Travelcard Zone 2 and Zone 3. The station site straddles the boundary between the boroughs of Lewisham and Greenwich, and passengers must briefly cross into Greenwich when walking over the footbridge to reach the opposite platform. Selective Door Operation is in use at this station as it cannot accommodate 3-car trains. Passengers wishing to alight at Elverson road must move towards the centre of the train (like Cutty Sark DLR) to alight.

Lewisham Central is an electoral ward in the London Borough of Lewisham. The ward was created for the 2002 election. Lewisham Central ward covers Lewisham town centre including the station, as well as Hither Green (west of the railway line) and part of Ladywell and St John's. The ward is mostly in the SE13 postcode district, with a small section in the SE8 district around Armoury Road. As of the May 2022 election the ward was reduced in geographic size, reflecting population growth around Loampit Vale and the station. There is now a separate ward for Hither Green.

On the evening of 4 December 1957, two trains crashed in dense fog on the South Eastern Main Line near Lewisham in south-east London, causing the deaths of 90 people and injuring 173. An electric train to Hayes had stopped at a signal under the bridge, and the following steam train to Ramsgate crashed into it, destroying a carriage and causing the bridge to collapse onto the steam train. The bridge had to be completely removed; it was over a week before the lines under the bridge were reopened, and another month before the bridge was rebuilt and traffic allowed over it. The driver of the Ramsgate train was acquitted of manslaughter charges after two trials. The Ministry of Transport report found that he had failed to slow down after passing two caution signals, so he was unable to stop at the danger signal, concluding that the use of an Automatic Warning System would have prevented the collision.

Blackheath Hill was a railway station between the Greenwich and Lewisham areas in south-east London. It was opened in 1871 by the London, Chatham and Dover Railway (LCDR) on its Greenwich Park Branch Line. Blackheath Hill was at the end of the line until an extension to Greenwich Park opened in 1888. The station closed in 1917 along with the rest of the line, owing to low usage and economy measures during World War I. The station building beside the A2 road was demolished in the mid-1980s, and the site has since been entirely built over. Whilst the building work was being undertaken the retaining wall and tunnel under the A2 were visible.

Perceval House is a building in Blackheath, London which gave its name to a military training school; in October 1863, the school's football team became a founder-member of The Football Association, the body which regulates football in England.The school's representative on the inaugural meeting of the Football Association was G.W. Shillingford. He, along with his colleagues from the other Blackheath-based teams at the meeting, favoured a form of football allowing "hacking" and handling of the ball, similar to rugby; when this was rejected by the majority of the teams as they attempted to formulate one agreed set of rules, no-one from Perceval House was represented at the fifth meeting of the F.A. in December 1863 and nothing further was heard from them.
