Research Triangle Park

The Elion-Hitchings Building on Cornwallis Road in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, U.S. was an architecturally significant brutalist building designed by Paul Rudolph and completed in 1972 as the headquarters for Burroughs Wellcome. Part of the original building and a later addition were torn down, and despite opposition, the rest of the building was demolished in January 2021.

The North Carolina Biotechnology Center is a non-profit, public-private partnership organization located in Research Triangle Park (North Carolina, United States). Founded in 1984 by the North Carolina General Assembly, it was the first state-sponsored biotechnology initiative in the United States, merging the interests of the academic private and public sectors. The North Carolina Biotechnology Center's mission is to provide long-term economic and societal benefits to North Carolina through support of biotechnology research, business, education and strategic policy. It receives nearly all of its funding from the North Carolina General Assembly. Since 1984, the North Carolina Biotechnology Center has invested more than $187 million in state monies to develop biotechnology statewide. It is not a site for laboratory research or company incubation, but it works to strengthen the research capabilities of North Carolina's companies and universities.

Research Triangle High School, commonly abbreviated RTHS, is a charter school with a STEM focus located in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. The school opened in August 2012 with an initial class of 160 freshmen, and now enrolls approximately 590 students in grades 9–12.

Nelson was a community in Durham County, North Carolina, United States. The community was centered at the intersection of Miami Boulevard and North Carolina Highway 54. It was largely a farming community, with several tobacco and livestock farms as well as a tight knit family oriented community. Though still on the map, it has been all but erased by the growth surrounding the Research Triangle Park. All of the farms have been paved over and old farmhouses and barns torn down to accommodate the huge corporations and other business entities. A few of the older small homes are still there, as well as the Cedar Fork Baptist church, but the community itself essentially no longer exists.

Bethesda is an unincorporated community in southeastern Durham County, North Carolina, United States, on South Miami Boulevard, off U.S. Route 70. The community has two churches, two schools, and a ZIP code of 27703. It has mostly been annexed into the city of Durham. Bethesda was named for Bethesda Baptist Church, which was organized in 1884.

Clegg is an unincorporated community in Wake County, North Carolina, United States on North Carolina Highway 54, north of the highway's intersection with North Carolina Highway 540.

Genlee is an unincorporated community in southern Durham County, North Carolina, United States along the Durham and Wake County line. The community is centered on the intersection of North Carolina Highway 55 and South Alston Avenue, near the old Durham and Southern Railway. The community was originally named Togo, after a Japanese city, in 1904 when the first railroad depot was established. The name of the community was changed to Genlee to honor Confederate General Robert E. Lee following the Japanese attack at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii in 1941 (Powell 1968, p. 188).

Hillside High School (abbreviated HHS) is a four-year high school located in Durham, North Carolina. Hillside is one of seven high schools in the Durham Public Schools system. Of more than 300 historically black high schools that once operated in the state before desegregation, only five remain today, with Hillside being the oldest. Hillside is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

Mount Zion Christian Academy (MZCA) is a private, college preparatory, non-denominational, co-educational Christian day school (grades K–12) and boarding school (grades 9–12) located in Durham, North Carolina. The Academy is most noted for its successful prep basketball program. The prep program has produced many college players, International players and NBA players.

Cedar Fork Township (also designated Township 5) is one of twenty townships within Wake County, North Carolina, United States. As of the 2010 census, Cedar Fork Township had a population of 40,841, a 274.3% increase over 2000.Cedar Fork Township, occupying 36.5 square miles (94.6 km2) in northwestern Wake County, includes all of the town of Morrisville, portions of Cary, Raleigh, and the Research Triangle Park, as well as the Raleigh-Durham International Airport. The southeastern portion of Triangle Township in Durham County that borders Wake County was originally a separate Durham township also named Cedar Fork.

White Rock Baptist Church is a historically African American church that was founded in Durham, NC, in 1866. The congregation first met in the home of Margaret Ruffin Faucette in Durham's Hayti neighborhood. The Reverends Zuck Horton and Samuel Daddy Hunt were the first ministers to lead the congregation.Dr. Augustus Shepard, father of Dr. James E. Shepard, founder of North Carolina Central University led the congregation between 1901-1911.A number of prominent African American citizens were members of White Rock Baptist Church, including Asa and Edna Spaulding, parents of Asa T. Spaulding, Jr., and Dr. Aaron Moore. Dr. Moore donated funds for a Sunday School building and started a library in the church's basement, which would later become the Durham Colored Library and then the Stanford L. Warren Public Library. In 1960, just after the start of the sit-in movement at the Woolworth store in Greensboro, NC, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., gave a speech titled “A Creative Protest” at White Rock Baptist Church to a crowd estimated at 1,200. King made five appearances in Durham.The original church building was demolished to make way for the Durham Freeway, and a new building was constructed further south on Fayetteville Street with the congregation moving in in 1977.
