Halifax Chebucto is a provincial electoral district in Nova Scotia, Canada, that elects one member of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. It is one of several ridings within the Halifax Regional Municipality. It encompasses the neighbourhood known informally as the West End. The economy consists mostly of military employment from CFB Halifax, the Queen Elizabeth II Health Science's Centre as well as retail stores on Quinpool Road. The riding is one of the few in the province to have a long history of New Democratic Party (NDP) representation. It been represented by an NDP Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for all but two terms since 1981. In the 2013 election, the Liberal candidate, Joachim Stroink was elected to represent the riding in the House of Assembly during the collapse of the NDP province-wide. However, the 2017 election saw the new leader of the NDP Gary Burrill elected, defeating Stroink after only one term. The riding has produced two provincial NDP leaders, Alexa McDonough (who would go on to lead the federal NDP) and Burrill.

It existed from 1867 to 1933, at which point Halifax County was divided into five separate electoral districts: Halifax South, Halifax Centre, Halifax North, Halifax East and Halifax West.

The property consists of an enclosed shopping centre with 641,585 square feet (59,605.2 m2) of leasable area, which attracts over 110,000 people each week, and an adjacent property with larger format retailers and office tower called Halifax Shopping Centre Annex with an additional 419,776 square feet (38,998.5 m2) of leasable area, including a 53,846 square feet (5,002.5 m2) office tower, Chebucto Place. Mumford Professional Centre is immediately adjacent to the annex property and represents an additional 237,084 square feet (22,025.8 m2) of leaseable space.The centre is open 9:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 5:00 p.m on Sunday.

The Northwest Arm, originally named Sandwich River, is an inlet in eastern Canada off the Atlantic Ocean in Nova Scotia's Halifax Regional Municipality.

Armdale station was a railway station in Armdale, Nova Scotia, Canada. It was operated originally by the Canadian National Railway and later by Via Rail. It was located near the Halifax Shopping Centre. In the 1970s and 1980s, it was served by Budd Rail Diesel Car (RDC) passenger trains operated by CN and later Via until the end of RDC service in Nova Scotia in 1990.

The West End is a neighbourhood of Halifax Regional Municipality in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia, located on the western half of the Halifax Peninsula. The West End is predominantly middle class with many blocks of tree-lined older residential streets. However, it is also home to many students and small low rent units. Rising real estate prices have also led to some levels of gentrification.

The Armdale Yacht Club is a yacht club located on Melville Island, at the head of Halifax Harbour's Northwest Arm in Nova Scotia, Canada. The Club's property has a history dating to 1732.

Deadman's Island is a small peninsula containing a cemetery and park located in the Northwest Arm of Halifax Harbour in Nova Scotia, Canada. The area was first used as a training grounds for the British military, and later became a burial ground for dead prisoners of war from nearby Melville Island. In the early 1900s the site became an amusement park before being annexed to the city of Halifax in the 1960s. Though development projects were considered for the site, these plans met with popular protest, and instead Deadman's Island became a heritage park, Deadman's Island Park.

Melville Island is a small peninsula in Nova Scotia, Canada, located in the Northwest Arm of Halifax Harbour, west of Deadman's Island. It is part of the Halifax Regional Municipality. The land is rocky, with thin, acidic soil, but supports a limited woodland habitat. The site was discovered by Europeans in the 17th century, though it was likely earlier explored by Indigenous peoples. It was initially used for storehouses before being purchased by the British, who built a prisoner-of-war camp to hold captives from the Napoleonic Wars and later the War of 1812. The burial ground for prisoners was on the adjacent Deadman's Island. Later, Melville Island was used as a receiving depot for Black refugees escaping slavery in the United States, then as a quarantine hospital for immigrants arriving from Europe (particularly Ireland). It briefly served as a recruitment centre for the British Foreign Legion during the Crimean War, and was then sold to the British for use as a military prison. In 1907 the land was granted to the Canadian government, which used it to detain German and Austro-Hungarian nationals during the First World War. During the Second World War, prisoners were sent to McNabs Island instead, and ammunition depots were kept on Melville Island. The peninsula now houses the clubhouse and marina of the Armdale Yacht Club. Melville Island has been the subject of a number of cultural works, most of which concern its use as a prison.

The Shaar Shalom Synagogue (inscribed עדת שער שלום, Adas Shaar Shalom on the corner of the building) in Halifax, Nova Scotia, is a Conservative Jewish synagogue. The Shaar Shalom Synagogue was among the first Canadian Conservative synagogues to hire women in clergy positions and welcome same-sex partners as members.
