Atholl

Linn of Tummel is a 19-hectare (47-acre) woodland property at the confluence of the rivers Garry and Tummel, near Pitlochry in Perthshire, Scotland. It is owned and maintained by the National Trust for Scotland, and is adjacent to the Trust's property at Killiecrankie. The name Linn of Tummel comes from the Scots Gaelic and means "pool of tumbling stream". The name comes from the fact that the River Tummel used to drop down over a fall to meet the River Garry; however, in 1950 the fall ceased when a new hydro-electric plant raised the level of both rivers and created Loch Faskally. In 1910, an early fish pass was blasted through the rock on the northern bank, to allow spawning fish to more easily bypass the falls; however it became obsolete when the Tummel hydro-electric power scheme was built.The property includes a network of more than 30 miles (48 km) of footpaths, amongst which is an obelisk commemorating the visit of Queen Victoria in 1844. The wildlife include pine martens and otters, while the flora includes pearl-bordered fritillary and lily of the valley.The National Trust for Scotland have owned the Linn since 1944, when it was given to them by Dr George Freeland Barbour of Bonskeid.

Fincastle Chapel, also known as Glenfincastle Chapel, is a former church building in Glen Fincastle, 2.6 mi (4.2 km) south of Blair Atholl, Perth and Kinross, Scotland. It is named for the glen in which it stands.Standing at the apex of a hairpin curve of the B8019 Killiecrankie-to-Tummel Bridge road, where the road crosses Fincastle Burn, the chapel is believed to have been built in 1843, according to a datestone at the site. Inside the chapel there is a World War I memorial plaque honouring five local men who died in the conflict.Another plaque is to the memory of Charlotte Rachel Barbour (née Fowler), who was a "friend of the children of Glen Fincastle 1930".Charlotte's son, George Freeland Barbour (1882–1946), was for many years a worshipper and preacher at the chapel.A tablet was placed, to give thanks, by the family of Helen Victoria Barbour (1891–1982): "For 63 years her home in this glen was a place of laughter, joy and inspiration for countless people from far and near."The chapel is shown as a free church on the first-edition Ordnance Survey maps, and as a school on the second edition.An octagonal wooden structure, which is not shown on the early maps, stands to the southeast of the chapel.

The Killiecrankie railway station served the village of Killiecrankie, Perth and Kinross, Scotland from 1864 to 1965.

Killiecrankie ( ; (Scottish Gaelic: Coille Chreithnich, meaning aspen wood) is a village in Perth and Kinross, Scotland on the River Garry. It lies at the Pass of Killiecrankie, by the A9 road which has been bypassed since 1986. The village is home to a power station forming part of the Tummel Hydro-Electric Power Scheme. Much of the riverbank is owned by the National Trust for Scotland. The nearby 10 arch railway viaduct, which runs for 109 yards (100 m) along the north-east bank of the River Garry, was built in 1863 from a design by Joseph Mitchell.

The Battle of Killiecrankie , also known as the Battle of Rinrory, took place on 27 July 1689 during the 1689 Scottish Jacobite rising. An outnumbered Jacobite force under Sir Ewen Cameron of Lochiel and John Graham, Viscount Dundee, defeated a government army commanded by General Hugh Mackay. James VII went into exile in December 1688 after being deposed by the Glorious Revolution in Scotland. In March 1689, he began the Williamite War in Ireland, with a simultaneous revolt led by Dundee, previously military commander in Scotland. Hampered by lack of men and resources, Dundee gambled on a decisive battle which he hoped would attract wider support. Although Killiecrankie was an unexpected and stunning victory, his army suffered heavy casualties and he was killed in the final minutes. It did little to change the overall strategic position, and the Jacobites were unable to take advantage of their success.

Three miles north of Pitlochry by the A9 road, the Pass of Killiecrankie (Gaelic: Coille Chneagaidh), is a gorge lying between Ben Vrackie (841 m (2,759 ft)) and Tenandry Hill in Perth and Kinross on the River Garry.The river-gorge traverses the pass over the course of a mile, and above it, the road and the railway, with the village of Killiecrankie at the north end. Much of the area is owned by the National Trust for Scotland.About a mile toward the village of Killiecrankie, the Battle of Killiecrankie took place in 1689.There was also a ship, a 3-masted bark named the Pass of Killiecrankie of the Killiecrankie line. The ship was built in 1893 and later renamed Stifinder.Killiecrankie is part of the Loch Tummel National Scenic Area (NSA), one of 40 such areas in Scotland, which are defined so as to identify areas of exceptional scenery and to ensure its protection by restricting certain forms of development.

Neighbouring Grandtully is situated on the other side of the Tay, across Grandtully Bridge.Strathtay is a particularly attractive village in Highland Perthshire, very much shaped by the Scottish feu system, which has led to a prevalence of Victorian architecture and landscaping. Aldclune is a village in Perth and Kinross, Scotland. It is on the B8079 road, approximately 1+1⁄2 miles (2.5 kilometres) east of Blair Atholl, on the north bank of the River Garry. At the eastern edge of the village is the site of the Battle of Killiecrankie, which took place in 1689 during the Jacobite rising of 1689–92.

Grandtully (pronounced as "Grantly" and sometimes also spelt "Grantully") is a small village in Perthshire, Scotland. It is situated close to the River Tay, about 3 miles (5 kilometres) from Pitlochry. It has a population of approximately 750 inhabitants.

Grandtully railway station served the village of Grandtully, Perthshire, Scotland from 1865 to 1965 on the Inverness and Perth Junction Railway.

Balavoulin, also known as Milton Lodge, is a Category B listed building in Blair Atholl, Perth and Kinross, Scotland.The building is two storeys with an attic, and its architect was Ramsay Traquair.James Syme Drew, a major-general in the British Army, was living at Balavoulin at the time of his death in 1955.
