Beverwijk (Dutch pronunciation: [ˌbeːvərˈʋɛik] (listen)) is a municipality and a city in the Netherlands, in the province of North Holland. The town is located about 20 kilometres (12 mi) northwest of Amsterdam in the Randstad metropolitan area, north of the North Sea Canal very close to the North Sea coast. A railway tunnel and two motorway tunnels cross the canal between Beverwijk and the nearby city of Haarlem on the south side of the canal. Around 1640, a town called Beverwyck was founded in the Dutch colony of New Netherland. That town's modern name is Albany, New York.

Velsen-Noord is a village in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Velsen, and lies about 10 km north of Haarlem. From 1865 on, when the construction on the North Sea Canal began, the town of Velsen, which originated in Roman times, was split in two parts. The northern part was known as Wijkeroog. Circa 1920, when municipality Beverwijk was planning to annex its surrounding villages, Velsen renamed Wijkeroog to Velsen-Noord (and Velsen itself to Velsen-Zuid) to indicate clearly that it was part of the municipality. In 1918, the steel producer Koninklijke Hoogovens was established in Velsen-Noord along the North Sea Canal. Its blast furnaces have defined the landscape of this town since then. The Hoogovensmuseum was opened in 2009 by the Stichting Industrieel Erfgoed Hoogovens (SIEHO) in order to preserve the industrial heritage of this historic steel producing site.

Adrichem Castle (Dutch: Huis Adrichem or Dutch: Kasteel Adrichem) was located in Beverwijk, the Netherlands. Constructed as a stronghold in the Middle Ages, it served in the 17th and 18th century as a country retreat for rich merchant families from Amsterdam. At the start of the 19th century, during the French reign over the Netherlands, it has been demolished. Today, nothing remains from the castle and it is home to a camping.

Restaurant De Vergulde Wagen is a defunct restaurant in Heemskerk, Netherlands. It was a fine dining restaurant that was awarded one Michelin star in 1995 and retained that rating until 1997. The restaurant closed in February 2011 when the owners retired after running the restaurants for 40 years.GaultMillau awarded the restaurant 12 out of 20 points in 2011.Head chef of the restaurant was Tineke Nieuwenhuizen.

Velsen-Zuid is a town in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Velsen, and lies about 9 km north of Haarlem. Velsen-Zuid developed around the church founded by Willibrord in the 8th century. Between 1865 and 1876, the North Sea Canal was dug and Velsen became two settlements.The home of Telstar, a team competing in the second tier of Dutch football, the Eerste Divisie, is located in Velsen-Zuid. Their stadium is known as the BUKO Stadion.

The Battle of Beverwijk (Dutch: "Slag bij Beverwijk") was a violent confrontation between two hooligan supporter groups of Dutch Association football clubs Ajax and Feyenoord, the S.C.F. Hooligans and the F-Side. The incident took place on 23 March 1997 along the A9 motorway near Beverwijk, from which its name is derived.

The Hoogovensmuseum is a museum located on the northern side of the North Sea Canal sluice gates at IJmuiden, in the former "buizengieterij" (pipe making factory) of Koninklijke Hoogovens, now Tata Steel IJmuiden, on the Buizenweg in Velsen-Noord. It overlooks the binnenkanaal where water was pumped up to use for cooling. The former cooling bath house has been converted to an exhibition space.
