Coalbrookvale (Welsh: Glyn Nant-y-glo) is a village in the Ebbw Valley in Blaenau Gwent. It belongs in the community of Nantyglo and Blaina.It is located 1.32 miles (2.12 km) south of Brynmawr and 3.38 miles (5.44 km) north of Abertillery. It is 21 miles (34 km) from Newport. The A467 runs near to the village.

Nantyglo Round Towers are located at Roundhouse Farm, Nantyglo, near Brynmawr in the borough of Blaenau Gwent in the South Wales Valleys. The two fortified towers were constructed in the early 19th century as places of retreat by the ironmaster Joseph Bailey, after a riot was caused by his brother's threat to cut wages. They are believed to some of the last privately built defensive fortifications in Britain. One of the towers remains intact today whilst the other is in ruins having been partly demolished to salvage scrap iron in the 1940s.

Blaina ( BLEYE-nə Welsh: Blaenau Welsh pronunciation: [ˈbleɨnaɨ]) is a small town, situated deep within the South Wales Valleys between Brynmawr and Abertillery in the unitary authority of Blaenau Gwent, ancient parish of Aberystruth, preserved county of Gwent and historic county of Monmouthshire. The place name is derived from the Welsh word blaenau "uplands". As of 2011, the town has a population of 4,808.

The Brynmawr rubber factory is a now-demolished building which was situated in Brynmawr in Blaenau Gwent, Wales. It was designed and constructed between 1946 and 1952 by the Architects' Co-Partnership, a group of architecture alumni from the Architectural Association in London, in collaboration with engineer Ove Arup. Featuring a nine-domed concrete ceiling, the building was part of the "Festival of Britain period" in architecture and became the first post-war building to receive listed status, with a Grade-II* designation in 1986. Despite this status, the building was demolished in 2001 leaving only the boiler house intact, and the site is now occupied by housing and a superstore. The building was commissioned by the industrialist Lord James Forrester for Enfield Cables, of which he was a director. Forrester had been part of the pre-war Brynmawr Experiment, which aimed to revive the town following the Great Depression. His desire for regeneration led to his decision to situate the factory in Brynmawr, despite it not being the best location commercially. Enfield Cables were not able to make the site economically viable after opening, and it was taken over by the Dunlop Rubber Company, operating under the brand name Dunlop Semtex. Dunlop Semtex achieved success with the factory, producing flooring for the health and education sectors, going on to buy the site in 1964. A downturn in fortunes in the late 1970s and early 1980s led to the factory's closure in 1981.

BGfm is a community radio station serving Brynmawr, Ebbw Vale, Nantyglo and surrounding areas of Blaenau Gwent in south Wales. The station used to broadcast locally on 97.3 FM and online via the station's website. BRfm (the station's initials stand for Best Radio for Miles) broadcasts from studios and offices at Lakeside in Nantyglo, near Ebbw Vale. The station's output consists of locally focused programming presented and produced by volunteers. Programming includes local features and specialist music shows, weekly Welsh language programmes, regular sports coverage and national news bulletins from Sky News Radio in London.

Mynydd Carn-y-cefn (grid reference SO1808) is the name given to the broad ridge of high ground between the Ebbw Vale and the valley of the Ebbw Fach in the Valleys region of South Wales. It lies within the unitary area of Blaenau Gwent, formerly Monmouthshire. The broad-topped ridge runs NNW-SSE and achieves a summit height of 550 metres (1,800 ft) at a point crowned by a trig point at OS grid ref SO 187084 between Ebbw Vale and Blaina. It is a Marilyn with a prominence of 176 metres.

Brynmawr (Welsh for 'big hill'; ; brin-MOUR; Welsh: [brɨnˈmaur]) is a market town, community and electoral ward in Blaenau Gwent, Wales. The town, sometimes cited as the highest town in Wales, is situated at 1,250 to 1,500 feet (380 to 460 m) above sea level at the head of the South Wales Valleys. It grew with the development of the coal mining and iron industries in the early 19th century. Until the reorganisation of local authorities in 1974, Brynmawr was administered as part of the county of Brecknockshire.
