Plympton Hundred

Plympton Academy (formerly, The Ridgeway School and, before that, Plympton County Secondary School) is a state secondary school in Plympton, Plymouth, England. It is a mixed, non-denominational academy school. In 2022, it joined the Thinking Schools Academy Trust (TSAT) to become part of a multi-academy trust (MAT). Its designated feeder primary schools are Chaddlewood Primary School, Glen Park Primary School, Plympton St Maurice Primary School, and Yealmpstone Primary School, although other primary schools also send children to Plympton Academy. The school has a sports centre, which includes a fitness gym, multiple sports hall, cricket pitch, rugby pitch, and in the summer, an athletics grass circuit. The sports hall was renovated in 2015. The sports hall and gym is open to the public for a small fee. The school also includes a Performing Arts Centre called the "Morpurgo Studios" opened by Micheal Morpurgo in 2019. It has a state of the art recording studio, a professional dance studio and a fully equipped 500 seater theatre. The school also has an internal sixth form which accepts students from all schools across the Plymouth consortium.

Plympton is a suburb of the city of Plymouth in Devon, England. It is in origin an ancient stannary town. It was an important trading centre for locally mined tin, and a seaport before the River Plym silted up and trade moved down river to Plymouth and was the seat of Plympton Priory the most significant local landholder for many centuries. Plympton House is the principal residence at the Plympton House Estate, in the parish of Plympton St Maurice, Devon, England. It is a Grade I listed country house, in the William and Mary tradition, near St Maurice's Church in Plympton, commenced by Sir George Treby (1643–1700) and completed c. 1715 – 1720 by his son George Treby (c. 1684 – 1742). The architect is unknown although accounts in 1720 refer to William Veale, mason. Its kitchen garden wall, southern boundary walls and gate piers and walls are Grade II listed.The house has had three main uses in its 300-year history: firstly a family home; secondly an asylum; and thirdly a convent and residential care home. Having been disused for several years, in 2016 a new plan was announced to bring the estate back into regular use with a sensitive redevelopment plan, creating a community of 14 homes across the site.

The Lodge is a Grade II listed building in Plympton, Devon, England. Standing at 103 Fore Street, the western end of Plympton's main street, it is a detached villa dating to the early- or mid-19th century.A four-storey building (only two visible from the street), it has a dry-slate hipped roof with projecting eaves. It has a double-depth floor plan, believed to include two rooms at the front either side of a central entrance hall.In 1999, the property's front garden was excavated by Time Team, after presenter Tony Robinson pointed out to Mick Aston, from their helicopter hovering above Fore Street, that the property was the only one set back from the road. Carenza Lewis received permission from the homeowner to dig an exploratory trench in her lawn, having seen a row of buildings on the same property on 18th-century maps.

Standing on Plympton's main street, it dates to the late 18th century.Although its interior has not been inspected by Historic England, it was evaluated by Time Team in 1999. In the episode, architectural historian Beric Morley discovered a large timber lintel spanning a fireplace. A dendochronology sampling dated the timber's felling date (but not the date it was inserted into the fireplace) to around 1290.

The 18th-century pilastered doorcase has moulded entablatures either side of it.A wide carriage-entrance passage on the right displays part of the cellar in its wall.The building was evaluated by Time Team during their visit to Plympton in 1999. Its basement walls were found to be pre-17th century due to the fact that a chamfered beam at head height in the basement was believed to have formerly sat on top of a wall (the others around it still being in place today), taking the line of the roof upwards.

Standing at 20 Fore Street, Plympton's main street, it dates to the 17th century and is believed to have originally been merchants' houses or tenements of cottages. It is now one property.It has rubble walls, except for the deeply projecting first floor, which is render and likely timber framed.Although its interior has not been inspected by Historic England, it was evaluated by Time Team in 1999. In the episode, architectural historian Beric Morley discovered, in what would have been the back of the building in mediaeval times, a large timber lintel spanning a fireplace that was likely original to the 17th-century construction. A dendochronology sampling dated the timber's felling date (but not the date it was inserted into the fireplace) to around 1290.

Carlton House is a Grade II listed building in Plympton, Devon, England. Standing at 43 Fore Street, Plympton's main street, it dates to the early 19th century.It has incised an stucco frontage with a plinth. A central panelled pilastered doorway has a moulded hood on consoles. The two-storey building has a double-depth floor plan with two rooms at the front flanking a central entrance hall, a similar layout to the nearby The Lodge at 103 Fore Street. The building was evaluated by Time Team during their visit to Plympton in 1999. A wall belonging to an earlier incarnation of the adjacent Tan Cottage was discovered in the back garden of the property.

Chapel House is a Grade II listed building in Plympton, Devon, England. Standing at 10a and 10b Fore Street, Plympton's main street, it is believed to have originally been a town house, later developed into a shop with attached house. It dates to the mid-18th century, but contains older remnants.It is constructed of Killas rubble with limestone dressings. There are keystoned flat arches that are original to the ground-floor doorways.Although its interior has not been inspected by Historic England, it was evaluated by Time Team in 1999. In the episode, architectural historian Beric Morley discovered, in the kitchen, a late 15th- or early 16th-century slack-head doorway made of granite moorstone that had been "laboriously carved" into a moulding. In the long part of the building's L-shape, he found a window of similar style and age. In the attic, an arched braced roof was shown, the particular style being a West Country special that existed from the end of the 14th century through into the 16th century. A dendochronology sampling dated the timbers to around 1470.Number 10b is now known as Becket House.
