St Mary's Church, Staveley

Staveley-in-Cartmel is a small village and civil parish in South Lakeland district, Cumbria, England. It lies east of Newby Bridge, near the south end of Windermere, 9 miles (14 km) northeast of Ulverston. It is sometimes known as Staveley-in-Furness. Both names distinguish it from another Staveley in Cumbria. In the 2001 census the parish had a population of 428, decreasing at the 2011 census to 405.

Fell Foot Park is a country park situated at the southern end of Windermere in Cumbria, the largest lake in England. It is north of Newby Bridge in the civil parish of Staveley-in-Cartmel, in South Lakeland district. Formerly the grounds of a Victorian estate, it is now owned by the National Trust.

The Lakes Aquarium is an aquarium in the village of Lakeside on the southern shore of Windermere, Cumbria, England. It is one of the docking points of Windermere Lake Cruises and also at one end of the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway. It is the third most visited paying tourist attraction in Cumbria.

Lakeside is a village in Newby Bridge at the south end of Windermere, England. Now in the county of Cumbria, before county reorganisation of 1974 it was in Lancashire, as part of the region known as Furness. It was established as a steamer pier for services along the lake when the Lakeside branch of the Furness Railway reached it in 1869, meaning that steamer services no longer had to negotiate the River Leven to Newby Bridge. Also built at Lakeside was a hotel to serve the tourists brought by the railway and steamers. The steamers still call at Lakeside and the railway is now a steam-hauled heritage railway, operated as the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway. However, it now only operates as far as Haverthwaite, with the route beyond to Ulverston closed in 1965 as part of the Beeching cuts. It now contains the Aquarium of the Lakes, an aquarium featuring fish found in the rivers and seas around the Lake District. In November 2009, the village including Lakeside Hotel and the Lakes Aquarium was partially flooded. The floods resulted in the closure of both businesses until early 2010 as well as the sinking of moored yachts and severe road blockages.

Lakeside railway station is on the heritage Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway in England. It was previously the terminus of the Furness Railway Ulverston to Lakeside Line, which was closed as part of the Beeching Axe in 1965. It serves the village of Lakeside in Cumbria, as well as the tourist attractions located there.

Newby Bridge is a small hamlet in the Lake District, Cumbria, England. Historically in Lancashire, it is located several miles west of Grange-over-Sands and is on the River Leven, close to the southern end of Windermere. The hamlet is the site of an intermediate halt on the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway. A terrace of houses adjoining the railway were built by the Furness Railway for its workers. The A590 road runs through Newby Bridge connecting Barrow-in-Furness to the M6 motorway close to Kendal.

Staveley Fell is an upland area in the English Lake District, near (and named for) Staveley-in-Cartmel (not to be confused with Staveley-in-Westmorland), Cumbria, east of the southern end of Windermere. It is the subject of a chapter of Wainwright's book The Outlying Fells of Lakeland, but he admits that: "Strictly it has no name, not even locally, being referred to on Ordnance maps as Astley's and Chapel House Plantations, which are new forests severely encroaching upon it". He says it "commands a fine aerial view of the foot of Windermere." The fell reaches 870 feet (270 m) and Wainwright's route is a clockwise loop starting from Staveley-in-Cartmel. Chris Jesty in his revised edition of Wainwright's book provides an alternative route and comments that "There must be many people who, encouraged by the ordnance Survey map, or by the first edition of this book, have ... been turned back by an uncrossable fence."

Newby Bridge Halt (also known, historically, as Newby Bridge Platform) is a railway station on the Lakeside and Haverthwaite heritage railway. It serves the village of Newby Bridge, Cumbria, England.

Stott Park Bobbin Mill is a 19th-century bobbin mill and now a working museum located near Newby Bridge, Cumbria, England. Built in 1835 the mill was one of over 65 such buildings in the Lake District, which provided wooden bobbins to the weaving and spinning industry primarily in Lancashire and Yorkshire. The building is today owned and run by English Heritage.

St Peter's Church is in the village of Finsthwaite, Cumbria, England. It is an active Anglican parish church in the deanery of Windermere, the archdeaconry of Westmorland and Furness, and the diocese of Carlisle. Formerly part of the Leven Valley benefice, together with St Anne Haverthwaite and St Mary Staveley-in-Cartmel, it is now part of the Cartmel Peninsula Team Ministry. The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building. St Peter's was designed by the Lancaster partnership of Paley and Austin. They were the winners of a competition to design "mountain chapels" organised by the Carlisle Church Extension Society in 1873. The authors of the Buildings of England series describe the church as "a brilliant essay", and write that "one would have to search far and search long in England to find village churches to vie with" this and two other Austin and Paley churches, Torver and Dolphinholme. The church stands to the southeast of the village.

Finsthwaite is a small village in the South Lakeland district, in the county of Cumbria, England. It is located near the Furness Fells and Windermere. Finsthwaite has a place of worship, St Peter's Church, and a Bobbin Mill called Stott Park Bobbin Mill, now a working museum. Finsthwaite is in the civil parish of Colton.

Simpson Ground Reservoir is a reservoir in Cumbria, England, near the southeastern end of Windermere. It is located within a Forestry Commission conifer plantation, to the east of Staveley-in-Cartmel and provides fresh water supply for Grange-Over-Sands and the Haweswater aqueduct to Barrow. The reservoir, which covers an area of 6.89 hectares (17.0 acres), was established in 1957. The reservoir, at an altitude of 193 metres (633 feet), measures 455 m × 194 m (1,493 ft × 636 ft), and has a capacity of 44 million gallons. A plaque near the bank commemorates the opening of the reservoir on 4 May 1957 by the Lancashire County Council.
