Islington Studios

Gainsborough Pictures was a British film studio based on the south bank of the Regent's Canal, in Poole Street, Hoxton in the former Metropolitan Borough of Shoreditch, north London. Gainsborough Studios was active between 1924 and 1951. The company was initially based at Islington Studios, which were built as a power station for the Great Northern & City Railway and later converted to studios. Other films were made at Lime Grove and Pinewood Studios. The former Islington studio was converted to flats in 2004 and a London Borough of Hackney historical plaque is attached to the building. The studio is best remembered for the Gainsborough melodramas it produced in the 1940s. Gainsborough Pictures is now owned by Gregory Motton

The New North Road is a road in northern central London, forming part of a link road from the A1 at Highbury into the City of London at Moorgate. It is 0.8 miles (1.3 km) in length and is part of the A1200. This link road consists of Canonbury Road and New North Road, before several smaller sections to the south leading into the city. This part of the link begins at the Essex Road crossroads in the London Borough of Islington: Canonbury Road enters from the north-west, whilst New North Road continues in a south-easterly direction. It continues south-east and crosses into the London Borough of Hackney, passing to the west of Shoreditch Park. It bears to the south, and ends at a junction with Pitfield Street. A link road continues shortly before the end of New North Road, becoming East Road for a short distance, before meeting up with City Road near Moorfields Eye Hospital and Old Street station.

The Rosemary Branch Theatre is a pub theatre located in Islington, London. It has been operating for 35 years. It was originally known as the Rosemary Theatre in 1986. In late spring of 1986 the upstairs of the Rosemary Branch was converted into a theatre. The same space has always been used but the technical area was originally between the stage left entrance corridor and the central aisle just adjacent to the entrance. The first production, starring Mark Heath and directed by James Marcus (from London's Burning and others) was "Napoleon Noir", describing the heroic feats of Toussaint L'Ouverture, who in the late 18th century fought to abolish slavery in Saint-Domingue. The next play was the well-received dark comedy "Curtains" by Tom Mallin. This had its premiere at the Edinburgh Festival in 1970 with Nigel Hawthorne as one of a couple made murderous by the introduction of a third party. Lastly, before the Theatre's initial season closed, Cavada Humphrey presented her autobiographical solo performance "Walking Papers"; a powerful and focused work. From 1996 to 2016 it was co-directed by Cleo Sylvestre. The building was previously a Victorian music hall.

Point Blank is a global network of music production schools founded in London in 1994 by musician and producer Robert Cowan, offering a variety of courses in electronic music production, sound engineering, DJing, singing, songwriting, radio broadcasting, and music business. In addition to its original location in Hoxton, North London, Point Blank now has schools in Los Angeles, Ibiza, Mumbai, Hangzhou, Shenzhen, and online.

Hoxton is an area in the London Borough of Hackney, England. As a part of Shoreditch, it is often considered to be part of the East End – the historic core of wider East London. It was historically in the county of Middlesex until 1889. It lies immediately north of the City of London financial district, and was once part of the civil parish and subsequent Metropolitan Borough of Shoreditch, prior to its incorporation into the London Borough of Hackney. The area is generally considered to be bordered by Regent's Canal on the north side, Wharf Road and City Road to the west, Old Street to the south, and Kingsland Road to the east. There is a Hoxton electoral ward which returns three councillors to Hackney London Borough Council. The area forms part of the Hackney South and Shoreditch parliamentary constituency.

Hoxton is a ward in the London Borough of Hackney and forms part of the Hackney South and Shoreditch constituency. The ward stretches from Hoxton Street and Hoxton Square in the East to Old Street and City Road in the South and West and Shoreditch Park and the Regents Canal in the North. The ward returns three councillors to the borough council, with an election every four years. At the last election on 6 May 2010 Philip Glanville, Clay McKenzie, and Carole Williams all Labour Party candidates, were returned. Turnout was 52%; with 5,150 votes cast.The population of the ward at the 2011 Census was 15,174.

Stadthaus is a nine-storey residential building in Hackney, London. At nine stories (30 meters/98 feet), it is thought to be the second tallest timber residential structure in the world, after the Forte apartment complex in Melbourne, Australia. It was designed in collaboration between architects Waugh Thistleton, structural engineers Techniker, and timber panel manufacturer KLH.Stadthaus is the first high-density housing building to be built from pre-fabricated cross-laminated timber panels. It is the first building in the world of this height to construct not only load-bearing walls and floor slabs but also stair and lift cores entirely from timber.

Drake's is a British menswear haberdasher founded in 1977 by Michael Drake. Manufacturing in East London, Drake’s produces men’s accessories and shirting, and is predominantly known for its ties.

The New Era estate is a housing estate in Hoxton, in the London Borough of Hackney, part of East London. Approximately 100 families lived on the estate in 2015.The New Era Tenants' Association of estate residents had been involved in protests over the increase in rents proposed by its new landlord, the U.S.-based investment fund Westbrook Partners. After Russell Brand joined the protests in 2014, footage of his clash with a television reporter at a 10 Downing Street demonstration in Westminster went viral on YouTube, bringing the issue to greater public notice. A petition raised 350,000 signatures in support of the residents, and Hackney Council became involved in negotiations with Westbrook Partners.In December 2014, it was confirmed that the housing estate was to be sold to the affordable housing group Dolphin Living, a housing provider owned by the Dolphin Square Charitable Foundation.

The Church of St. John the Baptist, Hoxton, usually known as St. John's Hoxton, is an English urban Anglican parish church in the Hoxton area of Shoreditch, within the London Borough of Hackney.Nearby is Silicon Roundabout, and also Aske Gardens, named after the parish's major benefactor, City alderman and haberdasher Robert Aske.
