Mound City, Arkansas

Sultana was a commercial side-wheel steamboat which exploded and sank on the Mississippi River on April 27, 1865, killing 1,167 people in what remains the worst maritime disaster in United States history. Constructed of wood in 1863 by the John Litherbury Boatyard in Cincinnati, Ohio, Sultana was intended for the lower Mississippi cotton trade. The steamer registered 1,719 tons and normally carried a crew of 85. For two years, she ran a regular route between St. Louis and New Orleans and was frequently commissioned to carry troops during the American Civil War. Although designed with a capacity of only 376 passengers, she was carrying 2,128 when three of the boat's four boilers exploded and caused it to sink near Memphis, Tennessee. The disaster was overshadowed in the press by events surrounding the end of the Civil War, including the killing of President Abraham Lincoln's assassin John Wilkes Booth just the day before. No one was ever held accountable for the tragedy.

The Riverside International Speedway is an automobile racing facility at 151 Legion Road in West Memphis, Arkansas. Its facilities consist of a 0.25-mile (0.40 km) Gumbo clay oval with banked corners, bleacher seating on both straightaways. Amenities include a concession stand. The track was built in 1950 and opened June 10 of that year at an estimated cost of $150,000 by C L Montgomery, originally to showcase midget car racing. It has held a World of Outlaws race. The track is nicknamed "The Ditch".

KXHT (Hot 107.1) is a mainstream urban radio station licensed to Marion, Arkansas and serves the Memphis, Tennessee, area. The Flinn Broadcasting outlet operates at 107.1 MHz with an ERP of 2.75 kW. The station's studios are located in Southeast Memphis, and the transmitter site is in West Memphis, Arkansas along the west shore of the Mississippi River.

KQPN (730 AM) is a commercial radio station licensed to West Memphis, Arkansas, and serving the Memphis metropolitan area. It is owned by F.W. Robbert Broadcasting and operated by Disruptor Radio, LLC. The station is branded as "AM 760 & AM 730 The Flame". It broadcasts a conservative talk radio format. KQPN currently simulcasts WENO from Nashville. KQPN broadcasts at 1,000 watts. Because AM 730 is a Canadian and Mexican clear channel frequency, KQPN uses a directional antenna at all times to avoid interfering with other stations. The transmitter is off Gammon Road in Marion, Arkansas.

The Lawrie House is a historic house at 600 North 7th Street in West Memphis, Arkansas. It is a 2+1⁄2-story wood-frame structure, with a side-gable roof and numerous projecting gables. The first floor is faced in brick veneer, giving the appearance of a raised basement. The main facade is dominated by its porch, which has a projecting gable roof supported by four square columns. Its main entry is flanked by sidelight windows and topped by a four-light lunette window and gable. The interior features elegant Colonial Revival woodwork. The house was built in 1939 by J. O. E. Beck, a plantation owner, as a wedding present for his daughter Elizabeth, who married Donald Lawrie.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.

The West Memphis Commercial Historic District encompasses the largest concentration of historic commercial buildings in the central business district of West Memphis, Arkansas. The district extends along East Broadway (United States Route 70) between 7th and 10th Streets, and includes 22 historic buildings. Most of these buildings were built between 1930 and 1950, and are typically single-story brick buildings with vernacular commercial design. A number of the buildings have modest Art Deco features, such as the cornice at 801 East Broadway. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008.

West Memphis Christian School is a private, college preparatory Christian school located in West Memphis, Arkansas.

Hopefield was a small community on the Mississippi River in Crittenden County, Arkansas. Its location is near or included within the current limits of the city of West Memphis, Arkansas. It was a ferry crossing point to Memphis, Tennessee, and was served by an east-west rail line built by the Memphis and Little Rock Railroad that eventually became a mainline of the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railway. During the American Civil War General Stephen Hurlbut had the town burned to combat rebel activity. It was rebuilt, hit by a series of Yellow Fever epidemics, and diminished by erosion. Hopefield Chute, an Ox Bow also called Dacus Lake, and Hopefield Lake are in the area, as well as some remains. G. W. Watson moved there. The area was once known as Camp Esperanza under Spanish rule. In the 1840s there were plans to develop land in the area. Several locations in the area were surveyed and marked.An 1880 report discusses the area being quarantined with mounted men stationed to patrol it.

Tabernacle Baptist Academy was a private school in West Memphis, Arkansas.

The First Battle of Memphis was a naval battle fought on the Mississippi River immediately north of the city of Memphis, Tennessee on June 6, 1862, during the American Civil War. The engagement was witnessed by many of the citizens of Memphis. It resulted in a crushing defeat for the Confederate forces, and marked the virtual eradication of a Confederate naval presence on the river. Despite the lopsided outcome, the Union Army failed to grasp its strategic significance. Its primary historical importance is that it was the last time civilians with no prior military experience were permitted to command ships in combat. As such, it is a milestone in the development of professionalism in the United States Navy.

The station is currently owned by iHeartMedia and is licensed to Crawfordsville, Arkansas. The station's studios are located in Southeast Memphis, and the transmitter is located off Bridgeport Road in West Memphis, Arkansas, near Harahan Bridge and the Arkansas-Tennessee border.

Marion High School is an accredited public high school in Marion, Arkansas, United States. Established in 1911, Marion High School is one of four public high schools in Crittenden County and the only high school of the Marion School District. The school district, and therefore the high school's attendance boundary, includes almost all of Marion, the municipalities of Clarkedale, Crawfordsville, Gilmore, Jericho, Sunset, Turrell, and portions of Jennette and West Memphis.
