Strickland Ketel (sometimes Strickland Kettle) is a civil parish in South Lakeland, Cumbria, England. In the 2001 census the parish had a population of 1,093, increasing at the 2011 census to 1,105. It borders the north west of Kendal, on both sides of the A591 road, and is also bordered by the parishes of Underbarrow and Bradleyfield to the south west, Crook to the west, Nether Staveley to the north west, Strickland Roger to the north east, and Skelsmergh to the east. There are 16 listed buildings or structures in the parish, all at grade II.The parish includes the larger part of the village of Burneside, which straddles the border with Strickland Roger.

Bowston is a village in Cumbria, England, situated about 4 miles (6.4 km) north of Kendal, beside the River Kent. It has an old, probably 17th century, bridge over the river which is a Grade II listed structure. A rare VR (Victoria Regina) postbox can be seen in the wall at the junction of Burneside Road and Potter Fell road. The village was home to William T. Palmer, an unsung Lakeland author, climber and local man. A mile north of the village, Godmond Hall is a 17th-century house incorporating a medieval pele tower.

Crook is a village and civil parish in the South Lakeland district of the English county of Cumbria, located on the B5284 road between Kendal and Windermere. In the 2001 census the parish had a population of 340, increasing at the 2011 census to 364.St. Catherine's church was built in the 1880s by Stephen Shaw, a local architect, in a plain late Perpendicular style. The tower of an earlier church, built about 1620, still stands nearby: the rest of the building was demolished in 1887 owing to structural defects. A mile to the north of the village, Hollin Hall is a Grade II listed building.

Scout Scar, also called Underbarrow Scar, is a hill in the English Lake District, west of Kendal, Cumbria and above the village of Underbarrow. It reaches 771 feet (235 m). Scout Scar is the subject of a chapter of Wainwright's book The Outlying Fells of Lakeland, but the summit he describes is a lower summit at 764 feet (233 m), 270m south of the highest point. Wainwright's anticlockwise recommended route also includes Cunswick Scar at 679 feet (207 m). The higher summit of Scout Scar has a topographic prominence of 109m and is thus classified as a HuMP, a hill with a prominence of at least 100m.Scout Scar and Cunswick Scar are both formed of Carboniferous Limestone and dip gently towards the east with a steep western scarp slope.At the lower, southern, summit there is a shelter, locally known as "The Mushroom". It was built in 1912 as a memorial to King George V, and restored in 1969 and again in 2003. The structure includes a toposcope indicating the Central Fells and other landmarks.

Cowan Head is a hamlet in Cumbria, England. It is on the River Kent upstream from Burneside.

The River Gowan is a short river in Cumbria, running easterly through the village of Ings before joining the River Kent at Staveley.

Cunswick Scar is a limestone scar (cliff or steep rock face) in the Lake District, England. There are extensive views from the large cairn at the top (207 metres (679 ft)). The scar is listed in the Scout Scar chapter of Wainwright's The Outlying Fells of Lakeland.Fossils can be found in the limestone on the scar and Cunswick Fell. The area is also of interest for its flora and fauna: Scout Scar and Cunswick Scar have been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

Staveley (grid reference SD469981) is a village in the South Lakeland district, in Cumbria, England. Historically part of Westmorland, it is situated 4 miles (6 km) northwest of Kendal where the River Kent is joined by its tributary the Gowan. It is also known as Staveley-in-Westmorland and Staveley-in-Kendal to distinguish it from Staveley-in-Cartmel (a small village near Newby Bridge which is now in Cumbria but was previously in Lancashire). There are three civil parishes – Nether Staveley, Over Staveley and Hugill (part). Their total population at the 2011 Census was 1,593 but this includes those living in the hamlet of Ings in Hugill parish.

Staveley Mill Yard is a former bobbin (spool) mill, which is now used for a variety of different local industries, shops and other commercial ventures. It is situated in the centre of the village of Staveley, Cumbria, just off the main street.

Staveley railway station is a railway station in Staveley in Cumbria, England. The station is on the Windermere Branch Line connecting Oxenholme and Windermere. The station is owned by Network Rail and is operated by Northern Trains who provide all passenger train services, Staveley was a request stop until December 2012.
