Spring Garden School No. 1

Poplar is a neighborhood in Lower North Philadelphia. It is located north of Callowhill, between Spring Garden/Fairmount and Northern Liberties, bounded roughly by Girard Avenue to the north, North Broad Street to the west, Spring Garden Street to the south, and 5th Street to the east. The neighborhood is mostly residential with commercial frontage on Broad Street and Girard Avenue and some industrial facilities to the west of the railroad tracks along Percy St. and 9th St.

Spring Garden School is a public K-8 school in the Poplar neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is a part of the School District of Philadelphia. The historic school building originally housed Spring Garden School No. 2. It was designed by Irwin T. Catharine and built in 1930–1931. It is a three-story, 16 bay orange brick building in the Art Deco-style. It features corbelled brick pilasters with capitals adorned by floral motifs and a caged rooftop play area.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.The Spring Garden attendance boundary includes a portion of the Center City District just north of the traditional boundary of Center City. Residents zoned to Spring Graden are zoned to Benjamin Franklin High School. As of 2016 over 70% of students who graduate from Spring Garden instead go to special admission and magnet schools such as Bodine High School for International Affairs, Carver High School for Science and Engineering, Constitution High School, Parkway High School, and Philadelphia High School for Girls.

The Divine Lorraine Hotel, also known as the Lorraine Apartments, stands at the corner of Broad Street and Fairmount Avenue in North Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Designed by architect Willis G. Hale and built between 1892 and 1894, the building originally functioned as apartments, housing some of Philadelphia's wealthy residents. Lorraine Apartments was one of the most luxurious and best preserved late 19th-century apartment houses in Philadelphia. In 1900 the building became the Lorraine Hotel when the Italian-owned Metropolitan Hotel Company purchased the apartments. Later it would become the first hotel in Philadelphia to be racially integrated under Father Divine. The hotel was abandoned and deteriorated, with graffiti all over the walls, broken windows, and crumbling stone. On September 16, 2015, a massive renovation project began.

William Henry Harrison School is a historic school building located in the Yorktown neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was designed by architect Irwin T. Catharine (1883–1944) and built in 1928–1929. It is a three-story brick building, nine bays wide on a raised basement in the Late Gothic Revival-style. It features a one-story, stone entrance pavilion with a Tudor-arched opening and a crenellated parapet. It is named for President William Henry Harrison. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988. The building is currently home to the St. Malachy School.

Fairmount station is a subway station in the Francisville section of North Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is served by SEPTA's Broad Street Line (as a local stop) and the Broad-Ridge Spur. There are three separate platforms. The Broad-Ridge Spur and Broad Street Line (BSL) northbound platforms connect inside the faregates, but the BSL's southbound platform cannot be reached from the other two without exiting. Such a connection once existed; the sealed-off entrance can be seen at platform level heading south towards the end of the platform. Travelers wishing to switch between the Broad-Ridge Spur and the southbound BSL must connect at Girard. The Broad-Ridge Spur platform is shortened and can only accommodate short 2-car trains; the unused part of the platform is visible from passing trains and is covered in layers of graffiti. Fairmount station on the Broad-Ridge Spur has a full mezzanine concourse extending from Wallace Street to Ridge Avenue, now abandoned.

Girard station is a subway station on the SEPTA Broad Street Line in the Francisville section of North Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is an express station, with four tracks and two central platforms. This is the last station where southbound riders can transfer freely between the Ridge Spur line and the Main Line, and the two trains commonly meet here and wait for one another. Girard station is located in a very busy commercial strip along Girard Avenue, and also serves the southernmost sections of Temple University. A transfer is available to the Route 15 trolley, which provides local service along Girard Avenue.Girard station is the 10th busiest station on the Broad Street subway line, with 7,500 passengers a day.The station was featured prominently in the 2019 sci-fi movie In the Shadow of the Moon.

The Metropolitan Opera House is a historic opera house located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It has been used for many different purposes over its history. Now known as The Met, the theatre reopened in December 2018, after a complete renovation, as a concert venue. It is managed by Live Nation Philadelphia.Built over the course of just a few months in 1908, it was the ninth opera house built by impresario Oscar Hammerstein I. It was initially the home of Hammerstein's Philadelphia Opera Company, and called the "Philadelphia Opera House". Hammerstein sold the house to the Metropolitan Opera of New York City in 1910, when it was renamed. The Met used the theatre through 1920, after which various opera companies used the house through 1934. For over five more decades it remained in constant use in turn as a movie theater, a ballroom, a sports venue, mechanic training center, and a church. The building then fell into serious disrepair and was unused and vacant from 1988 until 1995, when it became the "Holy Ghost Headquarters Revival Center at the Met". The church stabilized much of the building, eventually paving the way for the latest renovation of the opera house in 2017–2018. The opera house has been included in the National Register of Historic Places since 1972.

Girard Avenue Historic District is a national historic district located in the Cabot neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It encompasses 137 contributing buildings. They were largely built in the mid- to late-19th century and consist of residential, commercial, and industrial properties. The residential buildings include blocks of 19th century speculative rowhouses. Residential buildings include notable examples of the Greek Revival, Late Victorian, and Beaux Arts styles. Notable non-residential buildings include the Church of the Gesú (1879), designed by Edwin Forrest Durang, and Northwestern National Bank (1886).It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.

Mary Channing Wister School, originally the Mary Channing Wister Public School, is a historic school building located in the Poplar neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was designed by Irwin T. Catharine and built in 1925–1926. It is a three-story, three bay, brick building on a raised basement in the Art Deco-style. An addition was built in 1960. It features a freestanding portico with Doric order columns and decorative tile. It is named for the civic leader Mary Channing Wister, the wife of Owen Wister. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.In 2001, the building was renovated to become a new forensic science laboratory for the Philadelphia Police Department. While the facade remains true to the original design with little change, the inside of the building was completely renovated and designated a Green building. The new laboratory is called the Forensic Science Center, operated by the Office of Forensic Science within the Philadelphia Police Department.

Congregation Rodeph Shalom of Philadelphia, founded in 1795, is the oldest Ashkenazic synagogue in the Western Hemisphere. It is noted historically for its leadership of the Reform Judaism among American Hebrew congregations, for its spiritual influence upon international Jewry, and for its unique 1927 Moorish Revival building on North Broad Street, on the National Register of Historic Places for many decades.

Snellenburg's Clothing Factory is a historic factory complex located in the Spring Garden neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was built by the N. Snellenburg & Company and consists of two parts: a large, ornate building built in 1903, and a long, narrow building built in 1905. They are connected by a bridge at the fourth, fifth, and sixth floors. The front building is seven stories, constructed of limestone and brick with terra cotta ornament, and features a central tower.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception is a Ukrainian Catholic cathedral located in the Poplar neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. It is the seat for the Archeparchy of Philadelphia.
