Vreden

Stadtlohn-Vreden Airport (German: Flugplatz Stadtlohn-Vreden) (ICAO: EDLS) is an airfield located 2.8 NM (5.2 km; 3.2 mi) west of Stadtlohn, in the Borken district, Germany. Its runway lays adjacent to the Dutch border. The airfield is used for general aviation, as well for gliding and skydiving. Plans are made to extend the runway to 1,800 m (5,906 ft) but these plans are controversial. Local political parties disagree with each other whether growth is worthwhile the 8 million Euro investment. The final decision by the Kreistag was expected at 2 April 2009 but is postponed. As of 2 October 2010, the runway extension works have begun.

Ölbach is a river of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is a right tributary of the Berkel near Vreden.The Ölbach is one of the few outcrops of this region due to the topographic nature (gentle hills and flat land) of the Münsterland and is known for its numerous finds of belemnites. In its upper and middle reaches it exposes the gray clay layers belonging the Alb (Lower Cretaceous), and its many fossils.

Stadtlohn (Low German: Stadlaun) is a city in western Münsterland in the northwest of North Rhine-Westphalia, and is a district town of the Borken administrative district. The city had a population of 20,746 inhabitants as of 2020. The River Berkel flows through the city on its way to the Netherlands.

Südlohn is a municipality in the district of Borken in the northwestern part of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is located right at the border with the Netherlands, approx. 10 km east of Winterswijk. It consists of the villages Südlohn and Oeding.

Kotten is a hamlet in the municipality of Winterswijk, in the Netherlands. It was first mentioned in 1302 as Katen or Koten, and means "little farms/houses".Kotten was home to 677 people in 1840. Kotten always had good relations with neighbouring Oeding in Germany and both villages used to known for their smuggling activities.

The Battle of Stadtlohn was fought on 6 August 1623 between the armies of the Electoral Palatinate and of the Catholic League during the Thirty Years' War. The League's forces were led by Johann Tserclaes, Count of Tilly, the Protestants by Christian of Brunswick. The battle resulted in a resounding Catholic victory that largely ended the military resistance of the Palatinate forces and thus marked the end of the first phase of the Thirty Years' War.

Rekken is a village in the Dutch municipality of Berkelland. It lies in the most northeast corner of the province of Gelderland, about half a mile from the German border. The river Berkel enters The Netherlands east of Rekken. Rekken is also known in international aviation, by the VHF omnidirectional range called 'Rekken' (RKN). In the 12th century Rekken is known in documents as part of the Parish Eibergen. Later it was allowed by the Bishopric of Münster to form an independent parish. The Rekkenaren built a Catholic Church on the northern bank of the Berkel. Around 1616 the heerlijkheid Borculo, (until then an autonomous area, where Rekken was a part of) became a property of the duke of Guelders, and with that to the former Dutch Republic. The church in Rekken had to reform to the Dutch Reformed Church, based on the theory of John Calvin. Many Catholics went to church in Oldenkotte, just across the German border. Freedom of religion came when Rekken became part of the United Kingdom of the Netherlands. The Catholics then built a church on the southern bank of the Berkel. The river and the two churches divided the village in two parts. This is still visible nowadays.

Winterswijk (Dutch pronunciation: [ˌʋɪntərsˈʋɛik] ; also known as Winterswiek or Wenters) is a municipality and a town in the eastern Netherlands. It has a population of 29,022 and is situated in the Achterhoek, which lies in the easternmost part of the province of Gelderland in the Netherlands. It was also known as Winethereswick, Winriswic or Wenterswic; the Anglo Saxon wich or wic means the living place of a certain person. The person would likely have been called Wenether, Winitar or Winter.

Winterswijk is a railway station in Winterswijk, Netherlands. The station opened on 24 June 1878 and is located on the Zutphen–Winterswijk railway and the Winterswijk–Zevenaar railway. The train services are operated by Arriva. The station used to be an important point where freight trains would go into Germany. There used to be lines going in 5 directions: Arnhem, Zutphen, Bocholt (Germany), Borken (Germany) and Neede. Today there are 3 buses to Germany, otherwise passengers have to travel to Arnhem, Hengelo or Enschede.

Borken is a Kreis (district) in the northwestern part of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany in the Münster region. Neighboring districts are Steinfurt, Coesfeld, Recklinghausen, Wesel, Cleves, Bentheim in the Lower Saxony and the Dutch provinces Gelderland and Overijssel. The two biggest cities are Bocholt and Gronau.

Haaksbergen (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈɦaːɡzbɛrɣə(n)] (listen)) is a municipality and a town in the eastern Netherlands, in the province of Overijssel, in the Twente region. The Buurserbeek flows through the municipality of Haaksbergen.

De Boezemvriend or Molen van De Groeve is a smock mill in De Groeve, Netherlands which has been restored to working order. It was built in 1871. The mill is listed as a Rijksmonument, number 41097.
