Up Holland Priory was a Benedictine priory in Up Holland, Lancashire, England. It was founded in 1319. The priory remains are recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building. and the site is listed as a scheduled monument. The former chancel is now the nave of the Church of St Thomas the Martyr.

Up Holland (or Upholland) is a village close to Skelmersdale and civil parish in the West Lancashire district, in the county of Lancashire, England, 4 miles west of Wigan. The population at the 2011 census was 7,376.

Orrell Urban District was, from 1894 to 1974, a local government district in the administrative county of Lancashire, England. Its boundaries were centred on Orrell, but also included parts of Upholland. The district covered a significant area to the west of the County Borough of Wigan. The Urban District was created by the Local Government Act 1894. In 1974 Orrell Urban District was abolished by the Local Government Act 1972 and most its former territories transferred to Greater Manchester to form part of the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan (the rest being transferred to West Lancashire).

Up Holland High School is a coeducational secondary school located in Up Holland, Lancashire, England. It is a non-denominational comprehensive school. Prior to 1977 Up Holland High School was known as Up Holland Secondary Modern School and prior to the building of the Secondary Modern the site was the location of the old Up Holland Grammar School. After the old school burned down they adapted the school logo of a blue phoenix.

Orrell is a suburb of Wigan in the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan, Greater Manchester, England. The population of the ward had fallen at the 2011 Census to 11,513. The area lies 3 miles (4.8 km) to the west of Wigan town centre. The area is contiguous with Pemberton. Historically in Lancashire, Orrell was a centre of the coal mining industry, though today no evidence of the area's industrial past is present. The electoral ward of Orrell has a population of 11,203, however, the ward covers a larger area also containing parts of Billinge and Winstanley.

Orrell railway station serves the Orrell area of the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan, Greater Manchester, England. It is a small two-platform commuter hub on the Kirkby branch line from Wigan. From Orrell, trains provide services to Manchester, passing through Wigan's Wallgate station. On the opposite platform, trains served by Northern Trains use the Tontine Tunnel onwards towards the Kirkby terminus of this branch line. The majority of passengers at Orrell use services to Wigan town centre and Manchester. The services to Manchester are significantly busier than those to Kirkby. Usage figures are slightly inflated by the fact that Orrell is the boundary for free Concessionary travel for Manchester residents; pensioners book (free) to Orrell and need only pay from there to areas outside Greater Manchester.

St Luke's Church is in Lodge Road, Orrell, Wigan, Greater Manchester, England. It is an active Anglican parish church in the deanery of Wigan, the archdeaconry of Warrington, and the diocese of Liverpool.

St Joseph's College is a former Roman Catholic seminary and boarding school in Up Holland, Lancashire, England. The foundation of the original building was laid in April 1880 and the college opened in 1883. The buildings have since been deconsecrated.

The Edge Hall Road Community Stadium is a rugby union community stadium, located in Orrell, Greater Manchester. Originally built as the permanent ground of the local Orrell rugby union team, but the club departed the stadium in 2007, with the development team of Wigan Warriors beginning to use the ground that same year. While the ground has a technical capacity of 5,500, the safety certificate only allows 3,000 at present, due partly to damaged terracing. The Wigan Warriors senior team also uses the ground as their training complex. Throughout the latest years, the stadium has had name sponsorship, including The Co-operative, The Wigan Laundry and recently Solid Strip.

St. Peter's Catholic High School is located in the Orrell area of Wigan, Greater Manchester, and caters for students from the ages of 11 to 16. Formed in 1960, it is one of the few Catholic comprehensive schools in the Wigan area. St. Peter's has three main buildings: Main Build, the New Build and the Sports hall.
