Winooski Falls Mill District

Fort Frederick was a formidable blockhouse that was built at the Winooski (then “Onion”) River in 1773 by Ira Allen, one of the first English occupants to settle in the locality. He named it after the ten-year-old Frederick, Duke of York and Albany, second son of George III of the United Kingdom. Allen also established a shipyard nearby at the Winooski River bridge in 1772. The blockhouse served both as a fort and as a general store and office for the land-speculating “Onion River Company” and was built as a matter of security against the Yorkers and Indians, who at that time were held in equal enmity. Fort Frederick was never used for defense, but its protective presence increased the value of Onion River property and advanced local settlement. After the American Revolutionary War, Ira Allen returned to build a dam across the Winooski River with a sawmill at each end. That was the start of the use of the Winooski falls to generate energy and continued into the 20th century, with the construction of water-powered mills on both sides of the river.

The Methodist Episcopal Church of Winooski, also known as the Winooski United Methodist Church, is an historic Methodist church building located at 24 West Allen Street in Winooski, Vermont. It was built in 1918, and is a significant local example of vernacular Carpenter Gothic architecture. On March 2, 2001, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

The Winooski Block is a historic commercial building at 1 through 17 East Allen Street (corner of Main Street) in downtown Winooski, Vermont. Built in 1867, it is the only major building to survive the city's urban renewal activities of the 1970s, and is a fine example of post-Civil War commercial architecture. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.

The Chittenden-3-6 Representative District is a two-member state Representative district in the U.S. state of Vermont. It is one of the 108 one or two member districts into which the state was divided by the redistricting and reapportionment plan developed by the Vermont General Assembly following the 2000 U.S. Census. The plan applies to legislatures elected in 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, and 2010. A new plan will be developed in 2012 following the 2010 U.S. Census. The Chittenden-3-6 District includes all of the Chittenden County city of Winooski, and a section of the city of Burlington defined as follows: ...that portion of the City of Burlington encompassed within a boundary beginning at the northern terminus of the boundary line between the cities of Burlington and South Burlington located at a point adjacent to the Winooski River west of Interstate 89, then southwesterly along the boundary line to the intersection of the boundary line and Grove Street, then northwesterly along Grove Street to the intersection of Chase Street, then southwesterly along Chase Street to the intersection of Colchester Avenue, then southwesterly along Colchester Avenue to the intersection of Mansfield Avenue, then northerly along Mansfield Avenue to the intersection of North Street, then westerly on North Street to the intersection of North Prospect Street, then northerly along North Prospect Street, crossing Riverside Avenue, and continuing along Intervale Road to the intersection of the railroad tracks, then easterly along the railroad tracks to the Winooski River and the boundary of the City of Burlington and the City of Winooski. The rest of Burlington is in Chittenden-3-1, Chittenden-3-2, Chittenden-3-3, Chittenden-3-4 and Chittenden-3-5. As of the 2000 census, the state as a whole had a population of 608,827. As there are a total of 150 representatives, there were 4,059 residents per representative (or 8,118 residents per two representatives). The two-member Chittenden-3-6 District had a population of 8,174 in that same census, 0.69% above the state average.

The Dumas Tenements are a pair of four-unit apartment buildings, set back-to-back at 114 West Allen and 114 West Canal Streets in Winooski, Vermont. Built about 1907 by a French Canadian immigrant, they are among the only buildings of their type to survive the city's urban redevelopment efforts of the late 20th century. They were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012.

The Old Stone House is a historic house at 73 East Allen Street in central Winooski, Vermont. Built about 1790, it is the city's oldest building. It has served as a tavern, and as residences, and is now in use as professional offices. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

The LeClair Avenue Historic District encompasses a small residential development on LeClair Avenue and North Street in Winooski, Vermont. Subdivided and developed by Francis LeClair, a prominent local businessman, the well-preserved working-class residences typify development of the period catering to the area's growing French-Canadian immigrant community. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.

Centennial Field is the name of the baseball stadium at the University of Vermont in Burlington, Vermont, and is the home of the Vermont Lake Monsters. Beyond the left-field fence is the former home of the University of Vermont's men's and women's soccer teams, which also served as home field for its men's and women's lacrosse teams, and its college football team (1900–1974).

The Porter Screen Company is a historic former industrial facility at 110 East Spring Street in Winooski, Vermont. Developed beginning 1910–11, this mill complex was an important secondary industrial employer in the city, shipping window screens and other housing parts nationwide. The facility, now converted to senior housing, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

Winooski is a city in Chittenden County, Vermont, United States. Located on the Winooski River, as of the 2020 U.S. census the municipal population was 7,997. The city is the most densely populated municipality in northern New England, an area comprising the states of Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont. It is the smallest of Vermont's 10 cities by area, though the city of Vergennes has the smallest population. As part of the Burlington, Vermont metropolitan area, it is bordered by Burlington, Colchester, and South Burlington.

Trinity College of Vermont was a Catholic college located in Burlington, Vermont between September 1925 (1925-09) and 2000 (2000). Trinity was founded by the Sisters of Mercy of Vermont in September 1925 as New England's second Catholic women's college. The college was opened to provide an education to women, who at the time were an underserved population in the state of Vermont. The earliest students were taught in the areas of English, French, religion, mathematics, business skills, and the classics. Trinity College of Vermont was a pioneer in education and community service and promoted a mission of social justice.It was closed in 2000 due to financial constraints, after which the University of Vermont purchased its campus. By the time of its closing, 5,000 students had been educated at Trinity. After the college's closing, Trinity's graduate-level programs moved to the Vermont Center at Southern New Hampshire University in Colchester, where they continued to be directed by former Trinity administrators. Business classes were moved to the newly formed Mercy Connections in Burlington, where the Women's Small Business Program continues to offer entrepreneurial classes and support to women today.

The University of Vermont Medical Center (UVMMC) is a five-campus academic medical facility under the corporate umbrella of the University of Vermont Health Network that is anchored by a 562-bed hospital. UVMMC is located in Burlington, Vermont, and serves as both a regional referral center (providing advanced care to approximately one million people in Vermont and northern New York) and a community hospital (for approximately 160,000 residents in the Chittenden and Grand Isle Vermont counties). The hospital was formerly known as the Medical Center Hospital of Vermont and later as Fletcher Allen Health Care until getting its current name. It is affiliated with the University of Vermont's Robert Larner College of Medicine and its College of Nursing and Health Sciences.
