The Soča (pronounced [ˈsoːtʃa] in Slovene) or Isonzo (pronounced [iˈzontso] in Italian; other names Friulian: Lusinç, German: Sontig, Latin: Aesontius or Isontius) is a 138-kilometre (86 mi) long river that flows through western Slovenia (96 kilometres or 60 miles) and northeastern Italy (43 kilometres or 27 miles).An Alpine river in character, its source lies in the Trenta Valley in the Julian Alps in northwestern Slovenia, at an elevation of 876 metres (2,874 ft). The river runs past the towns of Bovec, Kobarid, Tolmin, Kanal ob Soči, Nova Gorica (where it is crossed by the Solkan Bridge), and Gorizia, entering the Adriatic Sea close to the town of Monfalcone. It has a nival-pluvial regime in its upper course and pluvial-nival in its lower course.Prior to the First World War, the river ran parallel to the border between Kingdom of Italy and the Austro-Hungarian Empire. During World War I, it was the scene of bitter fighting between the two countries, culminating in the Battle of Caporetto in 1917.

Šmaver (pronounced [ˈʃmaːʋər]; Italian: San Mauro) is a settlement on the right bank of the Soča River north of Solkan in the Municipality of Nova Gorica in western Slovenia.

The Solkan Bridge (Slovene: Solkanski most, Italian: Ponte di Salcano) is a 219.7-meter (721 ft) arch bridge over the Soča River near Nova Gorica in western Slovenia (by railway terminology it is a viaduct). With an arch span of 85 meters (279 ft), it is the world's longest stone arch railroad bridge (and second-longest stone arch bridge, after Germany's Syratal Viaduct, a road bridge). It holds this record because later construction technology used reinforced concrete to build bridges. It was originally built to carry the Bohinj Railway in the time of the Vienna Secession, between 1900 and 1905, and officially opened in 1906.

Solkan (pronounced [ˈsoːu̯kan] or [sɔu̯ˈkan]; Italian: Salcano, German: Sollingen or Salcano) is a settlement in the Municipality of Nova Gorica in the Gorizia region of western Slovenia, at the border with Italy. Although it forms a single urban area with the city of Nova Gorica today, it has maintained the status of a separate urban settlement due to its history and the strong local identity of its residents.The parish church in the settlement is dedicated to Saint Stephen and belongs to the Diocese of Koper.

Sveta Gora (pronounced [ˈsʋeːta ˈɡɔːɾa]; Italian: Monte Santo di Gorizia) is a settlement in western Slovenia in the Municipality of Nova Gorica. It encompasses Holy Mount (Slovene: Sveta gora), above the Soča Valley and southwest of the Banjšice Plateau.

Podsabotin (pronounced [pɔtsabɔˈtiːn], Italian: Poggio San Valentino) is a village in the Municipality of Brda in the Littoral region of Slovenia, right on the border with Italy.The parish church in the settlement is dedicated to Saint Nicholas and belongs to the Koper Diocese. Another small church belonging to the same parish is built in the hamlet of Podsenica and is dedicated to Saint Lawrence.

The Fourth Battle of the Isonzo was fought between the armies of Kingdom of Italy and those of Austria-Hungary on the Italian Front in World War I, between 10 November and 2 December 1915.

The Co-Cathedral of Christ the Saviour (Slovene: Stolna cerkev Kristus Odrešenik), also called Nova Gorica Cathedral, is the name given to a religious building that is affiliated with the Catholic Church and serves as the co-cathedral or alternate cathedral of the Diocese of Koper. It is located in Nova Gorica, a city in the European country of Slovenia. It was built in 1982 by architect Franc Kvaternik project. Inside the image of Christ and the cross made of wood, painted by Stane Jarm.On March 15, 2004, during the pontificate of Pope John Paul II the church was declared co-cathedral of the diocese with the decree "Ut spirituali" of the Congregation for Bishops (Congregatio pro Episcopis).

Goriška (English: the Gorizia Region) is a historical region in western Slovenia on the border with Italy. It comprises the northern part of the wider traditional region of the Slovenian Littoral (Primorska). The name Goriška is an adjective referring to the city of Gorizia, its historical and cultural centre.

Nova Gorica Sports Park (Slovene: Športni park Nova Gorica) is a multi-purpose sports venue in Nova Gorica, Slovenia. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home ground of ND Gorica. The stadium was built in 1964 and has a capacity of 3,100 seats.

Nova Gorica Grammar School (Slovene: Gimnazija Nova Gorica) is a coeducational nondenominational public gymnasium school located in Nova Gorica, Slovenia. The school caters for students aged between 15 and 19 and is roughly equivalent to preparatory schools in Anglo-American contexts. The school is considered among the best secondary schools in Slovenia.
