Neuhausen am Rheinfall

Neuhausen Rheinfall (German: Bahnhof Neuhausen Rheinfall) is a railway station in Neuhausen am Rheinfall, in the Swiss canton of Schaffhausen. The station opened on 13 December 2015, principally to serve the tourist attraction of the Rhine Falls, from which it takes its name. It is linked by a combination of bridges and elevators to the bank of the River Rhine, just below the waterfall.

The High Rhine (German: Hochrhein, pronounced [ˈhoːxˌʁaɪn] ) is the name used for the part of the Rhine that flows westbound from Lake Constance to Basel. The High Rhine begins at the outflow of the Rhine from the Untersee in Stein am Rhein and turns into the Upper Rhine in Basel. In contrast to the Alpine Rhine and Upper Rhine, the High Rhine flows mostly to the west. The section is marked by Rhine-kilometers 0 to 165, measurements beginning at the outflow of the Obersee at the Old Rhine Bridge in Constance. It is the first of four sections (High Rhine, Upper Rhine, Middle Rhine, Lower Rhine) of the Rhine between Lake Constance and the North Sea. In the western part, the Rhine marks the border between Germany and Switzerland, while in the eastern part, Switzerland owns areas north of the Rhine and surrounds the popular German holiday resort of Büsingen am Hochrhein. The term High Rhine was introduced by scientists in the 19th century.Above all geologists tried to differentiate the High Rhine (Hochrhein) linguistically from the Upper Rhine (German: Oberrhein). Until the 19th century, it was also known as the "Badisch-Swiss Rhine".

The Rhine Falls (German: Rheinfall [ˈʁaɪnfal] , a singular noun) is a waterfall located in Switzerland and the most powerful waterfall in Europe. The falls are located on the High Rhine on the border between the cantons of Schaffhausen (SH) and Zürich (ZH), between the municipalities of Neuhausen am Rheinfall (SH) and Laufen-Uhwiesen/Dachsen (ZH), next to the town of Schaffhausen in northern Switzerland. They are 150 metres (490 ft) wide and 23 metres (75 ft) high. In the winter months, the average water flow is 250 m3/s (8,800 cu ft/s), while in the summer, the average water flow is 600 m3/s (21,000 cu ft/s). The highest flow ever measured was more than 1,250 cubic metres per second (44,000 cu ft/s) in 1999, and the lowest, 95 cubic metres per second (3,400 cu ft/s) in 1921. The falls cannot be climbed by fish, except by eels that are able to worm their way up over the rocks.

Laufen Castle (German: Schloss Laufen) is a castle in the municipality of Laufen-Uhwiesen in the Swiss canton of Zurich. It is a Swiss heritage site of national significance overlooking the Rhine Falls. The first documented reference to the castle dates to the year 858 when it was the home of the Barons of Laufen. It passed through several owners until the Old Zürich War (1439–1450) when the castle was acquired by the Fulach family, from whom the city of Zurich bought the castle in 1544. Following the Helvetic Republic (1798–1803) the castle was once again in private ownership, with the city of Zurich reacquiring the castle by buying it again in 1941.The castle now serves as a tourist attraction, and contains a restaurant and a youth hostel. Between 2009 and 2010 a project was undertaken to restore and expand the facilities, including a visitors’ centre situated in the former staff quarters, an exhibition in the northern part of the castle, and a wheelchair-accessible circular walkway with glass lift between castle and river levels. Laufen is overlooking Wörth Castle, on the opposite side of the Rhein river, in the Canton of Schaffhausen. The Rheinfall railway line passes through a tunnel under the castle, halting at the Schloss Laufen am Rheinfall station to the south of the tunnel and beneath the castle walls. The station is linked to the castle by a walkway.

Schloss Laufen am Rheinfall is a railway station in the Swiss canton of Zürich and municipality of Laufen-Uhwiesen. The station is overlooked by Schloss Laufen ("Laufen Castle") and in turn overlooks the famous Rhine Falls, from which it derives its name. It is located on the Swiss Federal Railway's Rheinfall line and is served by Zürich S-Bahn lines S12 and S33.The station is situated to the west of Schloss Laufen and its single platform overlooks the Rhine immediately below the falls. Immediately to the east of the station the railway line tunnels under the castle and then crosses the Rhine above the falls on a bridge that also carries pedestrian traffic. The station is linked to the castle by a walkway, and is mostly used by visitors to the castle and falls.In 2012, the government of the canton of Zürich proposed that Schloss Laufen am Rheinfall station should be closed from 2015, as it is unable to be adapted for disabled access and is too short to handle the longer trains that are to be introduced then. An alternative of relocating the station onto the nearby Rhine bridge was considered too expensive. The proposal has encountered significant opposition in the cantonal council.Schloss Laufen am Rheinfall station is one of two stations intended to serve the Rhine Falls, the other being Neuhausen Rheinfall station on the opposite bank of the river.

The Cholfirst Tunnel is a tunnel in Switzerland. The tunnel lies in the northern canton of Zuerich, and forms part of the Autostrasse A4. It was completed in 1996, and is 1,260 metres (4,130 ft) long.The tunnel has three lanes (two heading for Zurich, and one heading for Schaffhausen). There is no central reservation.

Schaffhausen railway station (German: Bahnhof Schaffhausen) is a railway station in Schaffhausen, the capital of the Swiss canton of Schaffhausen. The station is jointly owned by the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB CFF FFS) and Deutsche Bahn (DB), and is served by trains of both national operators, as well as trains of the Swiss regional operator Thurbo. The station is a major intermediate station on the DB's High Rhine Railway that briefly transits Swiss territory on its route along the northern bank of the High Rhine between Basel and Singen. The station is also linked to the rest of Switzerland by the Rheinfall line to Zürich via Winterthur, the Eglisau to Neuhausen line that crosses German territory (some trains call at Jestetten and Lottstetten in Germany) to reach Eglisau and Zürich, and the Lake line to Rorschach via Stein am Rhein.
