Coity

Coity Higher is a community in Bridgend County Borough, south Wales. It contains the north western suburbs of Bridgend which includes the villages of Litchard and Coity. The southern boundary of the community adjoins the community of Brackla, while the northern border is defined by the M4 motorway. Notable buildings and landmarks within the community include Coity Castle, Parc Prison, the 14th century Church of St Mary, Pendre Hospital, Ty Mawr House and a burial chamber. At the 2001 census, the community's population was 835, being re-measured at 6,078 t the 2011 Census.

Coity Castle (Welsh: Castell Coety) in Glamorgan, Wales, is a Norman castle built by Sir Payn "the Demon" de Turberville (fl. 1126), one of the legendary Twelve Knights of Glamorgan supposed to have conquered Glamorgan under the leadership of Robert FitzHamon (d. 1107), Lord of Gloucester. Now in ruins, it stands in the community of Coity Higher near the town of Bridgend, in the County Borough of Bridgend. Very close to the castle is the battlemented parish Church of St Mary the Virgin, which dates from the 14th century. The castle is a Grade I listed building.

St Mary's Church is a Grade I listed church in Coity Higher, Bridgend County Borough, southern Wales. The church is dated mainly to the 14th century, though significant alterations were added in the 16th century. The tower dates to the latter period. The church was extensively renovated by J. Pritchard and J.P. Seddon in 1860. The eastern stained class windows were added by Morris & Co. P.S. Webb was responsible for the patterns while the figures are the work of P.P. Marshall. Among the depictions on these windows are Christ saving Peter from drowning in the sea, Christ miraculously curing a woman, and Thomas the Doubter. The octagonal font dates to the 19th century, while the pulpit was installed in 1942. St Mary's Church became a Grade I listed building on 26 July 1963.

Brackla (Welsh: Bracla) is a large housing estate and community in the east of Bridgend in Bridgend County Borough, Wales. Along with the communities of Bridgend and Coychurch Lower, it makes up the town of Bridgend. At the 2001 census the community of Brackla had a population of 10,113, increasing to 11,749 at the 2011 Census, making up nearly a quarter of Bridgend's population.

HM Prison Parc (Welsh: Carchar Parc EF) is a Category B men's private prison and Young Offenders Institution in Bridgend, Mid Glamorgan, Wales. It is operated by G4S, and is the only privately operated prison in Wales.

Archbishop McGrath Catholic High School is a secondary school located in Brackla, Bridgend. The school has a reputation of having highly talented musicians and in 2011 achieved grades far above the national average. 80% of students stay on to study As-Levels in the sixth form.

Parc Hospital (Welsh: Ysbyty Parc) was a mental health facility at Bridgend in Wales.

The Princess of Wales Hospital (Welsh: Ysbyty Tywysoges Cymru) is a district general hospital in Bridgend, Wales. It is managed by Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board.

Bridgend Industrial Estate is a large industrial park complex in Bridgend, Wales. It is made up of three adjoining Industrial Estates, being Waterton, Bridgend, and North Road and incorporating a retail park in Waterton.

ROF Bridgend, (Filling Factory No. 2), located in Bridgend, South Wales, was one of the largest of sixteen World War II, UK government-owned, Royal Ordnance Factory munitions Filling Factories. Of great significance to the Britain's war effort, at its peak of production it employed around 40,000 people — said to be the largest ever factory in Britain's history.

Litchard is a village and residential district north of Bridgend, Wales. It is also an electoral ward in the Coity Higher community, as well as a former ward to Bridgend County Borough Council.

Bridge FM is an Independent Local Radio station broadcasting to Bridgend County Borough and the surrounding areas. It is owned and operated by Nation Broadcasting and broadcasts on 106.3 FM from studios at the St Hilary transmitter in the Vale of Glamorgan. The station plays chart music from the 1980s to the present day, alongside local news, travel and community information. As of September 2023, the station broadcasts to a weekly audience of 20,000, according to RAJAR.
