Rivington Unitarian Chapel is an active place of Unitarian worship in Rivington, Lancashire, England. It was founded in 1703, although its congregation dates to 1667. It is designated as a Grade II* listed building with some restoration in 1990.

Great House Barn is a 16th-century barn and Listed building in Rivington, Lancashire, England. Built as a tithe barn it is believed to be one of the oldest of its type in the county and is a Grade II listed building.

Upper Rivington Reservoir is situated centrally in the Rivington chain of reservoirs, on the West Pennine Moors in Lancashire, England, between Rivington and Anglezarke. The engineer for the Rivington reservoirs was Thomas Hawksley and construction for Liverpool Corporation Waterworks took place between 1852 and 1857. The two dams of the Upper Rivington reservoir are the 292-yard (267 m) Horrobin Embankment that separates it from the lower reservoir and carries a road into the village from the west, and the 292-yard (267 m) long, 40 foot (12.2 m) high Yarrow Embankment. There is an island. A bridleway and residence, The Street are on the side of the reservoir. It is a popular walking destination, between Anglezarke Reservoir to the north, Lower Rivington Reservoir to the south, and Yarrow reservoir to the east.Street Bottoms and Street Wood were lost with the formation of the reservoir.

Lower Rivington Reservoir is at the end of the Rivington chain of reservoirs in Lancashire, England, with Upper Rivington Reservoir to the north, and Rivington Water Treatment Works to the south. The Rivington chain primarily supplies 70,000 households in the Wigan area. The chain was built to supply Liverpool. The engineer for the Rivington reservoirs was Thomas Hawksley and construction for the Liverpool Corporation Waterworks took place between 1852 and 1857. The Lower Rivington reservoir has two dams - the Millstone Embankment, which is 2,120 feet (646 m) long and 40-foot (12.2 m) high, and the Horwich Embankment, which is 1,660 feet (506 m) long and 61-foot (18.6 m) high. Filter beds were constructed at the foot of the Horwich Embankment, The original sand filters were replaced by a new treatment plant from where a pipeline runs to the service reservoirs at Eccleston, St Helens. The River Douglas was diverted through a paved channel in a deep cutting into Lower Rivington.On the Rivington bank of the reservoir is a folly which is a replica of Liverpool Castle, and to the south-west is the Headless Cross at Grimeford Village. There is an activity centre offering watersports and land-based activities on the Anderton bank of the reservoir.

Rivington Hall is a Grade II* listed building in Rivington, Lancashire, England. It was the manor house for the Lords of the Manor of Rivington. The hall is of various builds as successor to a 15th-century timber-framed courtyard house that was built near to the present building of which no trace remains. It is a private residence.

Yarrow Reservoir - named after the River Yarrow - is a reservoir in the Rivington chain in Anglezarke, Lancashire, England, and has a storage capacity second to Anglezarke Reservoir. Construction of the reservoir, designed by Liverpool Borough Engineer Thomas Duncan, began in 1867.In 2002, several tons of fish were transported to this reservoir when the Upper Rivington reservoir was completely drained for essential maintenance work.The construction of Yarrow Reservoir was described in Wm. Fergusson Irvine's book "A Short History Of The Township Of Rivington" : A suitable site for the embankment having been selected, a trench was excavated on the centre line of the intended work and carried down to the solid rock right across the valley. This was filled with clay deposited in layers of 9 inches, and carefully puddled so as to produce a homogeneous watertight material. This clay wall, having reached the natural surface of the ground, was continued through the embankment, which was also built in thin layers thoroughly rammed and consolidated on both sides of the clay centre. Before commencing the erection of the embankment all peat and unsound material were stripped from the site. The inner or water slopes of the embankment have been built to an angle of 3 to 1, and outer slopes to an angle of 2 to 1. The impermeability of the dam depends upon the wall of puddled clay in the heart of the dam tied into the solid rock at the bottom and sides of the valley. The clay wall has been carried up to a batter on each side of 1 inch to every foot vertical, the thickness at the top being 6 feet. The inner slopes of the bank are protected by 15-inch pitching, consisting of the millstone grit of the neighbourhood, laid on a bed of broken stone. The outer slopes have been soiled and grassed over. On the banks of the reservoir is a 'face in the wall' - an effigy carved into a large stone on top of the dry stone wall, which is said to depict an inspector who worked for the Liverpool Corporation and made workers' lives a misery.The construction of the reservoir meant that a small hamlet called Alance was flooded, centred on the rebuilt Alance Bridge, and a large dwelling was demolished - Turner's Farm - which lives on in current maps only in name as Turner's Embankment.

The Street is a historical property on a bridleway of the same name in Heath Charnock in the Borough of Chorley, Lancashire, England. It is located on the western banks of the Upper Rivington reservoir and close to the boundary with the village of Rivington. It has been converted to apartments. Alexander Street took his name from the property when he was the owner of the estate in 1534. After his death, a distant cousin attempted to gain control of the building, but was evicted after a presumptuous attempt to act as a guardian to the deceased's children. After the reservoir was built in 1850, the house was demolished and rebuilt with compensation from Liverpool Corporation. In 1853, the property was owned by Peter Martin, who also owned Street Wood and Blindhurst Farm. Major renovation was undertaken, including vineries in the expansive gardens.Chorley Borough Council considered demolishing the structure following the demolition of many other large historic buildings in the village. It was rebuilt and although the roof was removed, the ornate and distinct chimneys remained. Opposite the property is a pets' grave, paying tribute to a trio of cats and dogs that died between 1900 and 1902.

Terraced Gardens of Rivington (Leverhulmes Former Gardens) is a landscaped woodland on the hillside of Rivington Pike, in Rivington Parish in the Chorley Borough of Lancashire, England, originally designed as a Garden by T.H Mawson and built as curtilage to a home of the soap magnate Viscount Leverhulme, as such the area is not part of Lever Park. Today the former gardens are Grade II listed and contain 11 Grade II structures. The design had three elements, the upper part being in the romanesque architectural style, the lower section known as the Ravine a woodland incorporated into the design with a manmade stream passing through, and a former Japanese-style garden has the remains of a manmade pond, made from Pulmonite. The gardens are today leased to Rivington Heritage Trust by United Utilities and are undergoing restoration and preservation.

Rivington Park Independent School was a private school located in Rivington, Lancashire that closed in 2014. It was founded in 2004 by Michael Ruaux, whose daughter, Emily, is a nationally ranked fencer. Ruaux also founded Rivington Park Fencing Club, which continues to operate. The school provided day-school education for children aged five to sixteen. The school had nearly closed in 2009 but was rescued by injection of funds from parents. The school also offered GCSE and BTEC courses for senior pupils and had plans to provide A-Level courses for sixth form pupils as well as boarding provision in what had been the school's nursery. The nursery closed down following an adverse Ofsted report published on 3 January 14 prompted by "concern raised with Ofsted regarding child ratios, supervision and the effectiveness of the key person system". The rest of the school closed without warning to staff or parents on 12 December 2014 at which time it had about 35 pupils on roll.

Rivington and Blackrod High School in the North West region of England is a Leverhulme Trust multi-academy school alongside Harper Green School, it operates as a Church of England teaching environment with a sixth form school. The school is located at two sites, with the upper school situated on Rivington Lane in Rivington, Lancashire (SD637127), and the lower school situated on Albert Street in Horwich, Greater Manchester (SD638118).

Anglezarke Reservoir is the largest reservoir in the Rivington chain to the west of Anglezarke in Lancashire, England. Anglezarke Reservoir has three embankments: the Charnock Embankment, the longest, is 850 yards (777 m) long and 31 feet (9.45 m) high, the Knowsley Embankment is 240 yards (219.5 m) long and 45 feet (14 m) high and the Heapey Embankment is 280 feet (85.3 m) long and 32 feet (9.75 m) high. It is fed by the River Yarrow, which has been diverted from its original course which is now covered by the Knowsley Embankment. It served the city of Liverpool before its current status as a supply mainly for Wigan. The original `Rivington Pike Scheme' was undertaken by Thomas Hawksley between 1850 and 1857 for the Liverpool Corporation Waterworks. The scheme was to construct five reservoirs and a water treatment works at the south end of Lower Rivington with a 17-mile (27 km) pipeline to storage reservoirs at Prescot. Water from two higher level reservoirs, Rake Brook and Lower Roddlesworth, was carried south in `The Goit', a channel connecting them to the reservoirs.In November 1997, the reservoir was refilled after the 1997 summer heat wave. The water flow was so large that the reservoir required an emergency draw-down. With the water level at a temporary low, there was an opportunity to inspect the Heapey embankment on Moor Road, which had been leaking since the 1960s. The condition of the embankment and surrounding strata were such that a phased grouting operation was required to remedy the leakage. The reservoir was refilled, but was still leaking. After a second grouting and refill operation, the embankment was deemed leak-free. It appears that the original cause of the leak was an 18-inch cast iron draw-off pipe which supplied White Brook to the north of the embankment. The trench for the pipe was cut much deeper than needed, through a glacial meltwater channel. However, shutting the pipe off in the 1970s failed to remedy the situation. Waterman's Cottage was built by Liverpool Corporation on the west bank of the reservoir. The cottage is a Tudor-style structure also known as Heapey Cottage. It was occupied by Denis and Anne Oakden in the 1940s. Denis worked for the Water Authority and moved to the property after several years in Porch Cottages, White Coppice.To the east of the reservoir is the small High Bullough reservoir and the Anglezarke Moors, Upper Rivington Reservoir is to the south and Healey Nab to the north-west. The area is now a wildlife haven, with a Woodland Trail which links to High Bullough reservoir.
