Risca and Pontymister railway station

Risca (Welsh: Rhisga) is a town in the Caerphilly County Borough and the historic boundaries of Monmouthshire in south-east Wales. Risca has a railway station, opened on the Ebbw Valley Railway in February 2008, after a gap of 46 years. It is split into two communities; Risca East and Risca West. It has a population of 11,700. The town is now part of the Cardiff Capital Region which has a combined population of 1,543,293. Cardiff the capital of Wales can be reached in under 28 minutes from the nearby railway station of Risca and Pontymister station which reopened in 2008 after a gap of nearly 60 years. The town lies at the south-eastern edge of the South Wales Coalfield and the town has been shaped by mining, together with other heavy industries, for many centuries.Risca is home to Ty-Sign, which is a large housing estate built in the early 1960s as a satellite village for the then new Llanwern steelworks. Risca has a rural aspect and is surrounded to the east and west by several extensively wooded hills including Mynydd Machen (1,188 ft; 362 m) and Twmbarlwm (1,375 ft; 419 m) which attract tourists for the hillwalking and mountain bikers to Cwmcarn Forest Drive.

Panteg AFC is a Welsh football club located in Griffithstown, Pontypool, Torfaen, South Wales. The club was founded in 1935 and currently runs two senior teams and one youth team at its home ground, Panteg House Sportsgrounds. The club plays in the Gwent County League Division One, tier 5 of the Welsh football pyramid.

Risca railway station was a station on the Monmouthshire Railway and Canal Company Western Valley line, later the Great Western Railway. It was located at Station Place, just south of the junction where the line split left towards Nine Mile Point (and eventually Tredegar) and right towards Ebbw Vale. It served the town of Risca.

Pontymister (Welsh:Pont-y-meistr) is a small village in Caerphilly county borough in Wales.

Tynycwm Halt railway station served the town of Risca, Monmouthshire, Wales, from 1935 to 1962 on the Monmouthshire Railway.

St Mary and St Mercurius Coptic Orthodox Church is the first Coptic Orthodox Church in Wales, at St Mary Street in Risca, Newport, Wales. It was consecrated in 1992 by Pope Shenouda III in the town of Risca, South Wales, under the official name of St Mary’s and St Abu Saifain’s Coptic Orthodox Church as a parish of the Coptic Orthodox Church. The Welsh Oak is a pub located in Pontymister, Caerphilly County Borough, Wales. In recent years, due to a decline in trade, the pub has ceased trading.This was the final meeting place of John Frost, Zephaniah Williams and William Jones, all members of the Chartist movement in South Wales in the 1830s prior to and during the Newport Rising of 1839. Each man headed up a column of men all supporting the movement of Chartism. After spending the night at the Welsh Oak the combined columns moved on to the Westgate Hotel, Newport, where they were met by soldiers and a battle ensued. The building was damaged by a fire on 7 August 2020 but is now being restored and intended for conversion to a private dwelling.

Twmbarlwm, also known as Twm Barlwm, Twyn Barlwm or locally known as "the Twmp" (translation: hump), the Nipple or the Pimple because of the mound that lies at its summit, is a hill situated 2 km (1.2 mi) to the northeast of Risca in South Wales. It is often mistakenly referred to as a mountain but is actually a hill due to being under 600 m (2,000 ft). It is 419 m (1,375 ft) high and is a well-known landmark throughout the region. It commands extensive views across what is now the M4 corridor, over Newport and Cwmbran - with part of it coming into Cwmbran - and out over the Bristol Channel.

Risca Community Comprehensive School is a community comprehensive school located in the town of Risca near Newport on the eastern side of the Caerphilly County Borough, South Wales. The school was opened by Queen Elizabeth II in 1977. There are approximately 900 pupils at the school aged from 11 to 16 (School years 7–11).

Church Road railway station served the hamlet of Lower Machen in Newport, Wales.

Plas Machen is a country house in the hamlet of Lower Machen, to the west of the city of Newport, Wales. The house was the ancestral home of the Morgan family of South Wales prior to their construction of Tredegar House. It is a Grade II* listed building. The gardens are listed at Grade II on the Cadw/ICOMOS Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in Wales. A pair of cottages in the grounds of the house are also listed at Grade II. The house remains a private residence and is not open to the public.

Rogerstone railway station (Welsh: Tŷ-du) is a station on the Ebbw Valley Railway in the community of Rogerstone in Newport, south Wales. The station is situated ½ mile north of the original station on the site of former rail sidings. The station is within the Afon Village housing development. Access to the single-platform station and associated car park is off Lily Way. The station opened on 6 February 2008 when services between Cardiff Central and Ebbw Vale Parkway commenced, with trains being operated by Arriva Trains Wales. On 17 May 2015, a new northern terminus was opened at Ebbw Vale Town railway station. In 2018, Transport for Wales took over running of the services. On 13 December 2021, a direct service to Newport railway station was added, suspended in January 2022 because of staff shortages caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and reinstated in May 2022.
