Bluerock Mountain (North Carolina)

Bat Cave is an unincorporated community in Henderson County, North Carolina, United States and is part of the Asheville Metropolitan Statistical Area. Named after a bat cave located on Bluerock Mountain (also known as Bat Cave Mountain), it is the largest known augen gneiss granite fissure cave in North America and is a protected area, not open to the public. It has frequently been noted on lists of unusual place names and is also a regular victim of street sign theft, especially in the early 1990s during the popularity of the movie Batman Returns. The community, located along the banks of the Broad River and within the Hickory Nut Gorge, features several shops, inns and a post office. It is also where three highways merge, U.S. Route 64 (US 64) from Hendersonville, U.S. Route 74A (US 74A) from Asheville, and North Carolina Highway 9 (NC 9) from Black Mountain, becoming Lake Lure Highway; which then continues in a southeasterly direction to Chimney Rock and Lake Lure.

Chimney Rock is a village in Rutherford County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 113 at the 2010 census. The village takes its name from a large granite outcropping located on a summit above the village itself in Chimney Rock State Park.

The 8,014-acre (32.43 km2) park is located 25 miles (40 km) southeast of Asheville, North Carolina, and is owned and managed by the state of North Carolina.The park features hiking trails for all skill levels, views of the Devil's Head balancing rock, and a 404-foot (123 m) waterfall, Hickory Nut Falls. Its most notable feature is a 315-foot (96 m) granite monolith named Chimney Rock, which is accessible by elevator and provides views of the park and surrounding countryside.

Pine Gables, also known as Logan House and Harris Inn, is a historic inn complex and national historic district located near Lake Lure, Rutherford County, North Carolina. The property encompasses 10 contributing buildings, 5 contributing sites, and 3 contributing structures. The original log sections of the inn dates to about 1800, and enlarged and modified in 1834, 1877, and 1924. It is a 2 1/2-story, frame building with high pitched gables in a vernacular Queen Anne style. Also on the property are the contributing Old Tearoom (c. 1877, c. 1924, c. 1937) now used as a single family dwelling, a one-story stone structure (c. 1877), seven guest cabins (c. 1924-1948), a craft shop (c. 1937), rock wall (c. 1934), three ponds (c. 1949), a segment of Old Highway 20 (c. 1921), and the shoreline of Lake Lure (c. 1927). Judge George Washington Logan (1815-1889), who also owned the George W. Logan House at Rutherfordton, bought the inn in 1866 and it became known as the "Logan House". During the Great Depression, the inn and surrounding property was used to promote economic recovery as a Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) headquarters.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.

Palmer Fire School, also known as Firemen's Hall, is a historic school complex for firefighters located at Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. The complex consists of the 1940, one-story, rock-faced assembly hall and the 1938, six-story, red-brick training tower. The assembly hall is a Late Gothic Revival style building, five bays wide with a stuccoed, crenellated parapet and projecting end bays. Its construction was funded by the Works Progress Administration (WPA) and was the only drill school for firemen funded by the WPA.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.

Edneyville is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Henderson County, North Carolina, United States. Its population was 2,367 as of the 2010 census.A post office called Edneyville has been in operation since 1828. Rev. Samuel Edney served as postmaster. He and his brother Asa were the two earliest settlers in the area. Samuel had 12 children and Asa had eight. Their descendants settled in the neighboring area, which led to the name Edneyville.Since 1998 Edneyville is home of the North Carolina Justice Academy, a division of the North Carolina Department of Justice. The institution is currently located on the grounds and facilities of the former Edneyville High School.

Lake Lure is a town in Rutherford County, North Carolina, United States. In 2020 the town population was 1,634. Lake Lure was incorporated in 1927, and acquired the lake after which it is named in 1965.

Gerton is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Henderson County, North Carolina, United States. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 254. It is part of the Asheville Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Sherrill's Inn is a historic home located near Fairview, Buncombe County, North Carolina. It is a four bay by two bay, log house of the saddle-bag variety which has been raised to two stories and weatherboarded. Attached to it is an originally separate two-story, log building, two bays wide and two bays deep. Also on the property are a contributing stone spring house and log meathouse. The building was built about 1845, and used as an inn throughout much of the 19th century.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.
