Malpas, Cheshire

Malpas was, from 1894 to 1936, a rural district in the administrative county of Cheshire, England. The district was named after the village of Malpas.

St Oswald's Church stands on the highest point in the market town of Malpas, Cheshire, England, on or near the site of a Norman motte and bailey castle. The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building and is recognised as being one of the best examples in Cheshire of a late 15th to early 16th-century church. It is an active Anglican parish church in the diocese of Chester, the archdeaconry of Chester and the deanery of Malpas. Its benefice is combined with those of St John, Threapwood, and Holy Trinity, Bickerton. Alec Clifton-Taylor includes it in his list of 'best' English parish churches.

Bishop Heber High School is a comprehensive secondary school in Malpas, Cheshire, England. The school is named after bishop Reginald Heber (1783–1826), who was born in Malpas and is remembered as a hymn-writer. In 2011, the school was rated outstanding in that year's Ofsted inspection. In January 2022, the school was criticised for allowing only school-branded coats to be worn on site. Parents claimed that children were in jumpers and 'freezing' while staff were in warm coats.

Malpas railway station was a railway station that served the market town of Malpas, Cheshire, on the Whitchurch and Tattenhall Railway or Chester–Whitchurch Branch Line. The station itself was at Hampton Heath and was also known locally as Hampton Station.

Overton is a former civil parish, now in the parish of Malpas, in the Cheshire West and Chester district and ceremonial county of Cheshire in England. In 2001 it had a population of 68. The civil parish was abolished in 2015 and merged into Malpas. It is the site of a deserted village, a scheduled monument, the sole remains of which are earthworks.

Hampton is a former civil parish, now in the parishes of No Mans Heath and District and Malpas, in the unitary authority of Cheshire West and Chester and the ceremonial county of Cheshire, England. According to the 2001 UK census, the total population of the civil parish was 409, decreasing marginally to 405 at the 2011 Census. The parish included Hampton Green. Hampton was formerly a township in the parish of Malpas, in 1866 Hampton became a separate civil parish, on 1 April 2015 the parish was abolished to form "No Man's Heath and District", part of it also went to Malpas. The Whitchurch and Tattenhall Railway used to pass through Hampton and was the site of the Malpas railway station.

Edge is a former civil parish, now in the parishes of No Man's Heath and District and Malpas, in the Cheshire West and Chester district, in the ceremonial county of Cheshire, England, The parish included Edge Hall and Edge Green. The population at the 2011 census was 247. Edge was formerly a township in the parish of Malpas, in 1866 Edge became a separate civil parish, on 1 April 2015 the parish was abolished to form "No Man's Heath and District", part of it also went to Malpas.

Stockton is a former civil parish, now in the parish of Malpas, in the Cheshire West and Chester district and ceremonial county of Cheshire in England. In 2001 it had a population of 21. The civil parish was abolished in 2015 and merged into Malpas.

Cuddington Heath is a village and (as Cuddington) a civil parish in the unitary authority of Cheshire West and Chester and the ceremonial county of Cheshire, England. The village is close to the border with Wales (the parish touches the Welsh community of Willington Worthenbury), and the nearest large town is Wrexham in Wales, about ten miles west. Other nearby villages are Threapwood, Malpas and Chorlton Lane. At the 2001 Census, the parish had a population of 180, falling slightly to 171 at the 2011 Census. The parish is the site of Cuddington Hall. The Stockton family were lords of the manor from the 16th to the 18th century: the most eminent of the family was Thomas Stockton (1609-1674), a barrister and later a High Court judge in Ireland.

Overton Hall is a country house in the parish of Malpas (formerly Overton), Cheshire, England. The house originated in the middle of the 16th century on a moated site as a timber-framed great hall with a screens passage; it was built for the Alport family. The great hall has since been divided into two floors, and the house was externally refaced in the early 19th century by the Gregson family. Two of the faces of the house are timber-framed with painted brick nogging. The other faces are in brick with stone dressings. The roofs are slated with tiles on the ridges. The chimney stacks, porch and bay windows are in stone. The house is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building. To the south of the house is a stone bridge over the former moat dating from the 18th century. This is also listed at Grade II. Immediately to the east of the hall are the remains of a medieval and post-medieval settlement and field system that are recognised as a Scheduled Monument.

Higher Hall is a farmhouse located to the south of Edge Green in the civil parish of Edge, Cheshire, England. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building. The house dates from about 1845, and is built on the site of an earlier house. It is constructed in red brick on a stone plinth, and has a slate roof with a tiled ridge. The house consists of a rectangular block with a wing to the rear. The windows in the front of the house are sashes, and elsewhere there is a mixture of sash windows and casements. At the front of the house is a timber porch on a stone plinth with octagonal columns, behind which are pilasters.

Edge Hall is a 9 bedroom, country house located at Hall Lane, Brasseys Contract Road, Edge, Cheshire, SY14 8LE, England. The house is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building. It was the ancestral home of the Dod family from the twelfth century (if not earlier) to the early twenty first century. The core of the house dates from about 1600. The main part of the building dates from 1721, and additions have been made from about 1790, and later. Its architectural style is Jacobean. The house is constructed in brick, standing on stone plinths, and has a slate roof.
