Godovič Pass

Strmec (pronounced [ˈstəɾməts], in older sources also Strmica, German: Stermza) is a small dispersed settlement in the hills south of Črni Vrh in the Municipality of Idrija in the traditional Inner Carniola region of Slovenia.Strmec belongs to the cadastral municipality of Kanji Dol. Strmec has 12 numbered houses with traditional oeconyms: pri Šemrl (or Vodnar; no. 1), Tič (no. 2), Cenck (no. 3), Medved (no. 4), Podobnik (no. 5), Peter (no. 6), Skokec (no. 7), Štorc (no. 8), Skalar (no. 9), Renk (no. 10), Zajc (no. 11), and Strmec (no. 12). The Skalar house is now in ruins and it is no longer officially numbered. It was assigned number 8 c. 1823, but was reassigned the number 9 in 1959.

Kanji Dol (pronounced [ˈkaːnji ˈdoːu̯]; German: Kanidol) is a dispersed settlement in the hills south of Črni Vrh in the Municipality of Idrija in the traditional Inner Carniola region of Slovenia. The settlement no longer had any permanent residents according to the 2002 census, but it has been repopulated in recent years.

Orešje (pronounced [ɔˈɾeːʃjɛ], German: Oreschie, Italian: Oressia) is a formerly independent settlement in the Municipality of Ajdovščina in southwestern Slovenia. It is now part of the town of Col. It is part of the traditional region of Inner Carniola and is now included with the rest of the municipality in the Gorizia Statistical Region.

Col (pronounced [ˈtsɔu̯]; archaic Podvelb, Italian: Zolla, German: Zoll) is a settlement on the edge of a karst plateau overlooking the Vipava Valley in the Municipality of Ajdovščina in the traditional Inner Carniola region of Slovenia. It is now generally regarded as part of the Slovenian Littoral. A Roman road led through the settlement. Its location overlooking the valley on the main route leading inland was used in the Middle Ages and later as a checkpoint between the Littoral region and Carniola. Trilek Castle is located on the eastern outskirts of the village.

Trilek Castle (Slovene: Grad Trilek or Graščina Trilek), also known as Old Castle (Slovene: Stari grad), is a small castle or fort in the settlement of Col, in the Municipality of Ajdovščina in southwest Slovenia. Built in the early 16th century, it was first mentioned in the 17th-century historian Johann Weikhard von Valvasor's 1689 survey The Glory of the Duchy of Carniola. The castle consists of a small tower and two annexes. Although generally intact, it is in poor condition and unsafe to enter due to instability of the ceilings and walls. A tower and part of castle's enceinte remain. The castle was owned by the Abramsberg noble family, which lived in Šturje. A stone Roman milestone with a dedication to Julian the Apostate was discovered in the castle in the 19th century; the milestone is now kept at the National Museum of Slovenia in Ljubljana. Roman coins dating to the second century AD were also found at the castle, and it was later used for defensive purposes against Ottoman attacks.

Carniola (Slovene: Kranjska; Slovene pronunciation: [ˈkɾàːnska], German: Krain; Italian: Carniola; Hungarian: Krajna) is a historical region that comprised parts of present-day Slovenia. Although as a whole it does not exist anymore, Slovenes living within the former borders of the region still tend to identify with its traditional parts Upper Carniola, Lower Carniola (with the sub-part of White Carniola), and to a lesser degree with Inner Carniola. In 1991, 47% of the population of Slovenia lived within the borders of the former Duchy of Carniola.

Sanabor (pronounced [ˈsaːnabɔɾ]) is a village in the hills northeast of Vipava in the Littoral region of Slovenia.
