East Memphis is a region of Memphis, Tennessee with several defined and informal subdivisions and neighborhoods such as Colonial Acres, White Station-Yates, Sherwood Forest, Normal Station, High Point Terrace, Belle Meade, Normandy Meadows, St. Nick, Pleasant Acres, Balmoral, and Ridgeway. The general boundaries are informal: On the West: Highland Street. On the South: I-240 On the East: Traditionally, the eastern border was anything inside the I-240 loop, however, many extend this to the Germantown city limits and the Cordova community On the North: Sam Cooper Blvd.The primary zip codes in this area are 38111, 38117, and 38157, including 38120 and 38119. In 1950, the eastern boundary of Memphis was essentially the western boundary of what is today East Memphis. By the mid-1960s, most of East Memphis inside the I-240 loop had been annexed by the city of Memphis.

Christian Brothers High School (CBHS) is located in Memphis, Tennessee, at 5900 Walnut Grove Road. It is a Catholic, all-boys college preparatory school which has a Lasallian tradition.

Saint Joseph Hospital was a Catholic operated hospital located at 220 Overton Avenue in Memphis, Tennessee. It is most well known for being the hospital where Martin Luther King Jr. died at 7:05 p.m. on Thursday, April 4, 1968, an hour after he was shot at Lorraine Motel.Erected in 1885 and operated by the Sisters of St. Francis, St. Joseph's later became a Medical Center with 1,212 beds. In 1997 the hospital merged with Baptist Memorial Health Care. The property and buildings were then sold to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The buildings, except for a recently built emergency room annex which St. Jude converted into a Translational Trials Unit, were subsequently demolished to make room for an expansion. The merger between St. Joseph's and Baptist Memorial Health Care was completed in 1998 and the last patients were transferred to Baptist on November 17, 2000.

The Baron Hirsch Synagogue (also Baron Hirsch Congregation), is an Modern Orthodox Jewish congregation and synagogue located at 400 South Yates Road, Memphis, Tennessee, in the United States. Founded in c. 1862 – c. 1864, the congregation underwent tremendous growth in the first half of the 20th century, emerging, in the 1950s, as the largest Orthodox congregation in North America, a position it still holds.Its former building, located at 1740 Vollintine Avenue, is an impressive International Style structure built in the 1950s. The building is a U.S. Historic District Contributing Property and the centerpiece of the Vollintine Hills Historic District, a cohesive collection of 78 post-World War II Minimal Traditional and ranch-style houses built around the former synagogue by members of the congregation.

The Margolin Hebrew Academy is a co-educational school located in East Memphis, Tennessee. It is the only Orthodox Jewish day school in Memphis. The MHA/FYOS comprises the Margolin Hebrew Academy, a pre-kindergarten through 8th grade section, with the Feinstone Yeshiva of the South, including Cooper Yeshiva High School for Boys, and the Goldie Margolin High School for Girls. The head of school for the PK-12th grades is Rabbi Yisroel Weiner.

The school faculty and staff value the students’ neurodiversity and work with them to leverage their learning differences so that they gain the independence and confidence needed for success. All Concord Academy teachers are licensed in the state of Tennessee and have an endorsement in Special Education.

The Racquet Club of Memphis was a private tennis club in Memphis, Tennessee, United States. The club was formed in 1974 as an expansion of the Memphis Athletic Club. An ATP Tour tournament, later called the Regions Morgan Keegan Championships came to the club in 1976 and was given an elevated "500" status in 2008. The increased status brought higher caliber players, a higher prize package and more points to the players. The change took effect in 2009. A 5,000-seat stadium was constructed in 1984. The club features 27 total courts: 11 indoor and 16 outdoor. During its later years, the ATP tournament was joined by a WTA Tour event, the Cellular South Cup. The final tournament played at the club was in 2017. In 2008, Golden Set Holdings LLC and San Jose, California-based Silicon Valley Sports & Entertainment (now Sharks Sports and Entertainment) purchased the Racquet Club, the Regions Morgan Keegan Championships and Cellular South Cup from the previous owner, Mac Winker, and renovated. In 2009, The Racquet Club of Memphis officially became the home for men's and women's tennis at the University of Memphis. In November 2018, the ownership group of the Racquet Club sent a letter to its members, announcing the facility's closure. '‘’While the Club has continued to attract committed, high level players, their numbers have declined while the options for local play have increased, and there is no longer a Tournament in place. In this context, the Club’s business model is not sustainable given the needed capital expenditures and prospect of operating losses. We are pursuing another use of The Racquet Club property that can make this twelve-acre site once again special for Memphis.’’ The Racquet Club continued operating until the spring of 2019, when the University of Memphis' tennis teams completed their schedule, and the club closed weeks after.

The U.S. National Indoor Championships was a tennis tournament that was last held at the Racquet Club of Memphis in Memphis, Tennessee, United States. The event was played on indoor hard courts and usually took place in February. For much of its more than 100-year history it was a combined men's and women's tournament but in 2014, its final year, only a men's tournament was held. The event was previously known under various sponsored names including the Memphis Open, the Regions Morgan Keegan Championships, the Kroger St. Jude Championship, and the Volvo Championships. It was called throughout most of its history the National Indoor Championships.

Ell Persons was a black man who was lynched on 22 May 1917, after he was accused of having raped and decapitated a 15-year-old white girl, Antoinette Rappel, in Memphis, Tennessee, United States. He was arrested and was awaiting trial when he was captured by a lynch party, who burned him alive and scattered his remains around town, throwing his head at a group of African Americans. A large crowd attended his lynching, which had the atmosphere of a carnival. No one was charged as a result of the lynching, which was described as one of the most vicious in American history, but it did play a part in the foundation of the Memphis chapter of the NAACP.

WYXR (91.7 FM) is an eclectic, non-profit community radio station headquartered in the historic Crosstown Concourse building in Memphis, Tennessee, United States. The station is owned by Crosstown Radio Partnership, Inc. and is a collaboration between Crosstown Concourse, the Daily Memphian and the University of Memphis. The WYXR air room is located in the Central Atrium of Crosstown Concourse, where passersby can view inside the studio as shows are broadcast live. It officially started broadcasting on Monday, October 5, 2020.
