Mount Bigelow (Arizona)

KUAT-FM is a radio station in Tucson, Arizona, United States. One of two radio services operated by the University of Arizona (UA) through its Arizona Public Media arm, it broadcasts a classical format throughout Southern Arizona. Studios are in the Modern Languages Building on the UA campus.

KXCI (91.3 MHz) is a non-commercial, listener-supported, FM radio station in Tucson, Arizona. It is owned by the non-profit Foundation for Creative Broadcasting. Its call sign comes from the Roman numeral for 91 (XCI). The studios and offices are on South 4th Avenue. Its transmitter is on East Mount Bigelow Road in Whitetail, Arizona.Primarily a music station, its programming also includes short-form features about local issues and the syndicated political show "Democracy Now!" on weekdays. There are also programs on native people, the LGBTQ community and the Latino community. KXCI plays a variety of musical genres, featuring both independent artists and bands/musicians on major labels. They include alternative, progressive country, Americana, blues, jazz, Latin jazz, cumbia, reggaeton, punk rock and folk.

Catalina Station (CS), also known as Steward Observatory Catalina Station, is an astronomical observing facility located on Mount Bigelow in the Santa Catalina Mountains approximately 29 kilometers (18 mi) northeast of Tucson, Arizona. The site in the Coronado National Forest is used with special permission from the United States Forest Service (USFS) by the Steward Observatory of the University of Arizona.

Catalina Sky Survey (CSS; obs. code: 703) is an astronomical survey to discover comets and asteroids. It is conducted at the Steward Observatory's Catalina Station, located near Tucson, Arizona, in the United States. CSS focuses on the search for near-Earth objects, in particular on any potentially hazardous asteroid that may pose a threat of impact. Its counterpart in the southern hemisphere was the Siding Spring Survey (SSS), closed in 2013 due to loss of funding. CSS supersedes the photographic Bigelow Sky Survey.

Santa Catalina National Forest was established as the Santa Catalina Forest Reserve by the United States General Land Office in Arizona on July 2, 1902 with 155,520 acres (629.4 km2). After the transfer of federal forests to the U.S. Forest Service in 1905, it became a National Forest on March 4, 1907. On July 1, 1908 it was combined with Dragoon National Forest and Santa Rita National Forest to create Coronado National Forest and the name was discontinued.The Santa Catalina Mountains are located northeast of Tucson and are part of the Santa Catalina Ranger District of Coronado National Forest.

Rose Canyon Lake is located 30 miles (48 km) northeast of Tucson, Arizona in the Santa Catalina Mountains on Mount Lemmon.

Soldier Camp is a populated place situated in Pima County, Arizona, United States. It is located along the Catalina Highway in the Coronado National Forest. It has an estimated elevation of 7,720 feet (2,350 m) above sea level. Soldier Camp is a community of USFS Recreation Residences.

Willow Canyon is a census-designated place in Pima County, in the U.S. state of Arizona. The population was "S" (Seasonal) at the 2010 census.

Summerhaven is a small unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) on Mount Lemmon in the Santa Catalina Mountains north of Tucson in Pima County, Arizona, United States. As of the 2010 census it had a permanent population of 40. Summerhaven sits at an elevation of approximately 7,600 to 8,200 feet (2,300 to 2,500 m) above sea level. Summerhaven is accessed via the Catalina Highway from suburban northeast Tucson, and it is about 24.5 miles (39.4 km) from the base of the mountains to Summerhaven.

The Aspen Fire burned from June 17, 2003, for about a month on Mount Lemmon, part of the Santa Catalina Mountains located in the Coronado National Forest north of Tucson, Arizona, and in the surrounding area. It burned 84,750 acres (343.0 km2) (132.4 sq mi) of land, and destroyed 340 homes and businesses of the town of Summerhaven. Damages to electric lines, phone lines, water facilities, streets and sewers totaled $4.1 million. Firefighting cost was about $17 million, and the Forest Service is spending $2.7 million to prevent soil loss. In 2002, the year before the fire started, Congress had been requested to allocate about $2 million to cover the implementation of fire prevention measures in the Coronado National Forest. However, that allocation was reduced to about $150,000 in the Congressional budget process. There were originally suspicions that the fire was caused by a lightning strike, but it was eventually determined to be human-caused.
