Chicago State University (CSU) is a predominantly black (PBI) public university in Chicago, Illinois. Founded in 1867 as the Cook County Normal School, it was an innovative teachers college. Eventually the Chicago Public Schools assumed control of the school from the county and it became Chicago Teachers College (CTC). Northeastern Illinois University began as a branch campus of CTC in 1949. In 1951, the State of Illinois began funding the college, and assumed control in 1965, transforming it into a comprehensive state college. In 1967, it became Chicago State University. CSU is a member of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund and accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.

The Burnside Shops were a major shop for maintenance of locomotives and railroad cars in Chicago, Illinois. The shops were owned and operated by the Illinois Central Railroad. The Illinois Central maintained a presence in Burnside since at least 1862, when it built a station there.In 1968, the Illinois Central agreed to sell the site to Chicago State University. Burnside was replaced by new facilities built at Markham Yard in Harvey and Homewood, Illinois.

The Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center, also known as the Jones Convocation Center or simply the JCC, is a 7,000-seat multi-purpose arena in Chicago, Illinois. Completed in 2007, the arena is home court for the Chicago State University Cougars men's and women's basketball teams. The arena replaced the Dickens Athletic Center, which only had capacity to seat 2,500 persons.The convocation center is unique among Illinois university athletic projects, as Chicago State University itself did not need to raise any money for the project; the money was allocated from the State of Illinois Treasury by then Senate President Emil Jones.The venue hosted the 2012 and 2013 Great West Conference men's basketball tournament.

Cougar Stadium is a baseball venue in Chicago, Illinois, United States. It was home to the Chicago State Cougars baseball team of the NCAA Division I Western Athletic Conference until the baseball program was discontinued on June 23, 2020. The field hosted its first game on March 18, 2014.

95th Street/Chicago State University is an electrified commuter rail station along Metra Electric's main line on the northeast corner of Chicago State University in Chicago, Illinois. The station is located at 95th Street and Cottage Grove Avenue, and is 12.0 miles (19.3 km) away from the northern terminus at Millennium Station. In Metra's zone-based fare system, 95th Street/Chicago State University is in zone C. As of 2018, the station is the 224th busiest of Metra's 236 non-downtown stations, with an average of 24 weekday boardings.Like much of the main branch of the Metra Electric line, 95th Street-CSU is built on elevated tracks near the embankment of a bridge over 95th Street. This bridge also carries the Amtrak line that runs parallel to it, carrying the City of New Orleans, Illini, and Saluki trains. In addition the line, which is owned by Canadian National Railway has a connection to the Norfolk Southern Railway which crosses over the tracks as well as Cottage Grove Avenue, between Lyon and Burnside Avenues. In April 2004, the Chicago State University master plan called for a new station south of the existing one. On August 1, 2019, it was announced that Metra and Chicago State University would substantially renovate the station. The work will consist of a new platform, stair enclosure, an elevator and at least one on-demand heater. The completion of the work would lead to regularly scheduled stops.

103rd Street (Rosemoor) is a commuter rail station along Metra Electric's main line in the Rosemoor neighborhood of Chicago. It is located at 103rd Street and Cottage Grove Avenue, and is 13.1 miles (21.1 km) away from the northern terminus at Millennium Station. In Metra's zone-based fare system, 103rd Street (Rosemoor) is in zone C. As of 2018, the station is the 217th busiest of Metra's 236 non-downtown stations, with an average of 36 weekday boardings.The station shares part of its name with two other stations on the Rock Island District line to the west. The first is on the main line in Washington Heights, and the other is on the Beverly Branch (or "Suburban Line") in the Beverly Hills neighborhood of Chicago to the west. This 103rd Station is the nearest Metra Electric station to Gately Stadium Park, which is used both by high school and Chicago State University athletic teams. Although Metra gives the address as 103rd Street & Cottage Grove Avenue, parking areas are actually located on 103rd Street and Dauphin Avenue. 103rd Street (Rosemoor) station was temporarily closed on November 20, 2023 for reconstruction. The station is planned to have an elevator installed for ADA compliance. Construction is expected to take about seven months.

John Marshall Harlan Community Academy High School is a public 4–year high school located in the Roseland neighborhood on the south side of Chicago, Illinois, United States. Harlan is a part of the Chicago Public Schools district. Opened in 1958, the school is named for Kentucky lawyer, politician and associate justice of the U.S. Supreme Court John Marshall Harlan.

George Henry Corliss High School (commonly known as Corliss High School) is a public 4–year high school located in the Pullman neighborhood on the far south side of Chicago, Illinois, United States. Corliss is operated by the Chicago Public Schools district. Opened in September 1974, The school is named in the honor of American mechanical engineer and inventor George Henry Corliss.

It is located at 91st and Dauphin Streets and is 11.4 miles (18.3 km) away from the northern terminus at Millennium Station. In Metra's zone-based fare system, 91st Street (Chesterfield) is in zone C. As of 2018, the station is the 226th busiest of Metra's 236 non-downtown stations, with an average of 23 weekday boardings.Like much of the main branch of the Metra Electric line, 91st Street-Chesterfield is built on elevated tracks near the embankment of a bridge over 91st Street. This bridge also carries the Amtrak line that runs parallel to it, carrying the City of New Orleans, Illini, and Saluki trains. A freight spur also exists north of the station. East of this station there was another Metra Electric station along 91st Street known as 91st Street (South Chicago) along the South Chicago Branch. This was replaced by South Chicago-93rd Street Station in 2001. No bus connections are available. Street-side parking for 91st Street-Chesterfield station exists solely along both sides of 91st Street between the east side of the railroad bridge and the northwest and southwest corners of Drexel Avenue.

Roseland is one of the 77 official community areas of Chicago, Illinois, located on the far south side of the city. It includes the neighborhoods of Fernwood, Princeton Park, Lilydale, the southern portion of West Chesterfield, Rosemoor, Sheldon Heights and West Roseland.

Pullman, one of Chicago's 77 defined community areas, is a neighborhood located on the city's South Side. Twelve miles from the Chicago Loop, Pullman is situated adjacent to Lake Calumet. The area known as Pullman encompasses a much wider area than its two historic areas (the older historic area is often referred to as "Pullman" and is a Chicago Landmark district and a national historical park. The northern annex historic area is usually referred to as "North Pullman"). The development built by the Pullman Company is bounded by 103rd Street on the North, 115th Street on the South, the railroad tracks on the East and Cottage Grove on the West. Since the late 20th century, the Pullman neighborhood has been gentrifying. Many residents are involved in the restoration of their own homes, and projects throughout the district as a whole. Walking tours of Pullman are available. Pullman has many historic and architecturally significant buildings; among these are the Hotel Florence; the Arcade Building, which was destroyed in the 1920s; the Clock Tower and Factory, the complex surrounding Market Square, and Greenstone Church. In the adjacent Kensington neighborhood of the nearby Roseland district is the home of one of the many beautiful churches in Chicago built in Polish Cathedral style, the former church of St. Salomea. It is now used by Salem Baptist Church of Chicago. In a contest sponsored by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, Pullman was one of seven sites nominated for the Illinois Seven Wonders.

The 98th Yard is a CTA rail yard in the Roseland neighborhood in the South Side of Chicago, Illinois which stores cars from the Red Line of the Chicago Transit Authority. It is located at 9800 S. State Street, at the intersection of 98th Street with the Dan Ryan Expressway. Currently, 5000-series railcars are stored here.
