Port Stanvac, South Australia

Port Stanvac Refinery was an oil refinery in the Australian state of South Australia located in Lonsdale, a southern suburb of Adelaide. Its construction was announced in 1958 and began refining crude oil in 1963.It had a capacity of 3.3 million tons per annum and was owned by Exxon Mobil. The refinery was mothballed in 2003, and in 2009 Exxon Mobil announced its permanent closure and demolition.The 239 hectares (590 acres) site is being demolished and cleaned up through 2019.The refinery's most prominent structure, the 90 metres (300 ft) chimney, was demolished on 31 January 2014. Mobil will face penalties if the site is not remediated by 2019. The land will be sold in phases.Part of the site is now used for the Adelaide Desalination Plant. Four gas turbines were installed by the Government of South Australia in 2017 for the Temporary Generation South power station. Operation was transferred to Infigen Energy in May 2020 under a 25 year lease, and will be moved to a different site at Bolivar.

The Adelaide Desalination plant (ADP), formerly known as the Port Stanvac Desalination Plant, is a sea water reverse osmosis desalination plant located in Lonsdale, South Australia which has the capacity to provide the city of Adelaide with up to 50% of its drinking water needs. In September 2007, South Australian Premier Mike Rann announced that the State Government would fund and build a desalination plant to ensure Adelaide's water supply against drought. The plant was financed and built by SA Water, a state-owned corporation. The plant was initially planned to have a capacity of 50 gigalitres (GL) of water per year but was later doubled in capacity to 100 GL/year with the assistance of funding from the Australian Government. The expanded capacity represents around 50% of Adelaide's domestic water supply. The project has engaged professional political lobbyists, including Michael O'Reilly.The plant was completed on time and within the original budget ($1.83 billion). Stage one of the plant commenced operations in October 2011, and stage two commenced in July 2012. The plant was officially opened on 26 March 2013.The Adelaide Desalination Project is the largest infrastructure project that the State of South Australia has funded, owns, and has completed successfully.Since 2012, the plant has been operating at 10% of its capacity to keep it functioning. In 2017, it produced 2% of the state's water supply.

Lonsdale Power Station is a diesel-powered electricity generator in South Australia in Lonsdale, an industrial southern suburb of Adelaide. It is owned by Snowy Hydro since 2014. It consists of 18 diesel reciprocating engines generating up to 21MW of electricity to meet peak demands in the National Electricity Market.The power station was designed and built by Cummins Power Generation under contract from Infratil in 2002 on what is now the site of the Port Stanvac Power Station. It was moved along the road to its present site in 2011. Snowy Hydro bought assets from Infratil in 2014. These included Lumo Energy, Direct Connect and three diesel peaking generators for a total of 136 MW. The other two were Angaston Power Station and Port Stanvac Power Station.It achieves the low emissions mandated by the Environment Protection Agency through selective catalytic reduction technology, matching standards set for gas turbines.

Christies Beach is a seaside suburb in the southern Adelaide metropolitan area, within the City of Onkaparinga. The area is scenic and hence popular with photographers as Witton Bluff provides a natural vantage point over the entire suburb and beyond. Noarlunga Centre is a suburb in the City of Onkaparinga in the southern suburbs of Adelaide, South Australia. The suburb is mostly commercial, being dominated by the Centro Colonnades shopping centre and the small 'Inspire Noarlunga' estate to the east of Goldsmith Road. The suburb is bordered by Beach Road to the north, Dyson Road to the west Goldsmith Road to the south and the Southern Expressway to the east. Burgess Drive, Seaman Road and David Witton Drive are the main thoroughfares inside the boundaries of the suburb.The name Noarlunga is an English adaptation of the native Kaurna word Nurlongga, meaning 'at the curvature', referring to the horseshoe bend near the mouth of the Onkaparinga River.Sharing the name Noarlunga are the two adjacent seaside suburbs Port Noarlunga and Port Noarlunga South and the historic township of Old Noarlunga that is located on the Onkaparinga River. Port Noarlunga was the original town centre prior to Noarlunga Centre being constructed. Noarlunga English adaptation of the kaurna name has also been spelt as Nglungga.
