James A. Garfield National Historic Site

Great Lakes Mall is a shopping mall in Mentor, Ohio on Mentor Avenue (U.S. Route 20), approximately 20 miles (32 km) northeast of Cleveland. The anchor stores are Round 1 Entertainment, Dillard's, JCPenney, and Dick's Sporting Goods. There are two vacant anchor stores that were once Sears and Macy's. The first stores of the mall were opened January 17, 1961, as part of an early development of Edward J. DeBartolo Sr., owned by the Glazer–Marotta Company. Throughout the 1960s, the mall was expanded and enclosed. In 1988, a multi-year renovation occurred, which included replacing the flooring and adding a food court, and a subsequent renovation occurred in 2011. Olive Garden, BJ's Brewhouse, Hobby Lobby, Outback Steakhouse, Barnes & Noble and Atlas Cinemas Stadium 16 are located in the mall parking lot. The mall contains 1,249,574 sq ft (116,089 m2). On May 28, 2014, it was announced by Simon Property Group that they would transfer Great Lakes Mall to its new spin off Washington Prime Group. Washington Prime Group later became WP Glimcher and then back to Washington Prime Group. In 2015, Sears Holdings spun off 235 of its properties, including the Sears at Great Lakes Mall, into Seritage Growth Properties. Dillard's North closed in May 2017, consolidating the men and women's sections into one building; Sears closed in September 2017. Macy's closed in April 2021 due to a plan to close 46 stores nationwide.

Mentor is a former railroad depot located on Station Street in Mentor, Ohio. The station opened in 1890. A defunct New York Central freight house is located across the tracks from the depot. The depot is currently open and used by a restaurant. Mentor station is on the National Register of Historic Places as the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern RR Depot and Freight House.

On the night of Wednesday, June 21, 1905, the New York Central Railroad's flagship passenger train, the 20th Century Limited, derailed in Mentor, Ohio, on the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railway line, killing 21 passengers and injuring more than 25 others on board. A switch from the mainline to a freight siding was open, causing the Limited to leave the mainline and overrun the siding at high speed. The cause of the accident was never officially determined, but overwhelming evidence points to an act of rail sabotage. The 20th Century Limited connected New York City to Chicago; its running time had just weeks earlier been reduced from 20 hours to 18.

Mentor ( MEN-tər) is the largest city in Lake County, Ohio, United States. The population was 47,450 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Cleveland metropolitan area. Mentor was first settled in 1797. In 1876, James A. Garfield purchased a home in Mentor, from which he conducted the first successful front porch campaign for the presidency; the house is now maintained as the James A. Garfield National Historic Site. The city is home to Headlands Beach State Park, the longest public swimming beach in Ohio. The city is a major center of retail stores, ranking sixth-largest in Ohio as of 2012, and restaurants, ranking seventh-largest in the state as of 2012. Mentor Avenue (US 20) is the major retail center, which includes the Great Lakes Mall, with additional shopping and strip malls found along most major roads. Convenient Food Mart is based in Mentor. Major products include medical related, polymers, plastics, electric boards and other peripherals that generally serve the computer and automation industries. Two major railroads pass through the city, CSX Transportation and Norfolk Southern. Medical equipment company Steris is based in Mentor. In July 2010, CNNMoney.com ranked Mentor 37th in a list of the Top 100 Best Small Cities to Live in America.

Lakeland Community College is a public community college in Lake County, Ohio. Established in 1967, Lakeland was the first college in Ohio founded by a vote of the people. Today, Lakeland serves more than 8,000 full-time and part-time students each year at the main campus in Kirtland, an off-site location in Madison, and via distance learning.

Mentor High School is a public high school located in Mentor, Ohio, United States. It is the only high school in the Mentor Exempted Village School District (informally, "Mentor Schools"). At one time, it was the largest high school in Ohio based on single building enrollment. For the 2008–2009 school year, it shifted from a three-year school (grades 10–12) to a four-year high school (grades 9–12), serving approximately 2,700 students. Mentor High School educates students from Mentor, Mentor-on-the-Lake, and parts of Kirtland Hills and Concord Township in Lake County, Ohio. Both middle schools from the Mentor Exempted Village School district, Memorial Middle School, Shore Middle School, feed into Mentor High School. The third middle school, Ridge Middle School, closed before the 2018–2019 school year had commenced, and has since been repurposed as an elementary school.

Lake Catholic High School is a private Roman Catholic secondary school in Mentor, Ohio, United States. It is affiliated with the Roman Catholic Diocese of Cleveland.

Historic Kirtland Village is a historic district in Kirtland, Ohio, U.S., owned and operated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). The district is made up of buildings and sites important to the early Latter Day Saint movement. Some of the buildings are original and have been restored to their 1830s appearances, while others were rebuilt on or near their original sites.

Kirtland Hills is a village in Lake County, Ohio, United States and a rural suburb of Cleveland. The population was 692 at the 2020 census.

The Kirtland Temple is the first temple built by adherents of the Latter Day Saint movement and is located in Kirtland, Ohio, United States. Designed by Joseph Smith, the founder and original leader of the movement, the architecture mixes the Federal, Greek Revival, and Gothic Revival architectural styles. The temple is currently owned and operated by the Community of Christ, formerly the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (RLDS Church). It has been a National Historic Landmark since 1969.

Lake County Executive Airport (IATA: LNN, ICAO: KLNN, FAA LID: LNN), formerly Lost Nation Airport, is a public use airport in Lake County, Ohio, United States. Located approximately 3 miles (5 km) north-northeast of the central business district of the City of Willoughby, it was owned and operated by that city until October 8, 2014, when it was transferred to Lake County and the Lake County Port and Economic Development Authority. The airport's name was changed from Lost Nation Airport to Lake County Executive Airport, alternately "Lake County Executive Airport at Lost Nation Field," in March 2020.This airport was included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2011–2015, which categorized it as a general aviation reliever airport for Cleveland Hopkins International Airport.

Kirtland High School is a public high school in Kirtland, Ohio. It is the only high school in the Kirtland Local Schools district. It was a Blue Ribbon school in 2005.
