Bellingeweer is part of the town of Winsum, in Groningen, Netherlands. Originally, it was an independent village built on a wierde. Bellingeweer had its own medieval church, which was demolished in 1824. However, the cemetery is still there. The wierde on which the village is built dates from around the year 1 AD and is still clearly visible.

The villages are less than half a kilometre apart and are often referred to together as Wetsinge. The closest village, at a distance of less than a kilometre to Wetsinge is Sauwerd. The name Groot Wetsinge is a rather confusing name, because there are fewer houses in Groot Wetsinge than in Klein Wetsinge. In this context, Groot means high. This is because of the wierde on which the village lies. Klein Wetsinge is not situated on a wierde. The first occupation of the mound of Groot Wetsinge dates from the 3rd century BC. Several discoveries have been made in the wierde, including an earthen lamp from the first century BC. The wierde is part of a cluster of wierdes along the eastern bank of the Hunze. Wetsinge was part of the area controlled by the family Onsta, which also built the Onstaborg to the northeast of Wetsinge.

Winsum (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈʋɪnsʏm] ; Gronings: Wìnzum [ˈʋɪ̃ːzəm]) is a town and a former municipality in the northeastern Netherlands. On 1 January 2019 the municipality merged with the municipalities of Bedum, De Marne and Eemsmond to form the new municipality Het Hogeland. The town of Winsum was officially established in 1057 as the fusion of three historic villages: Obergum (North), Winsum (center) and Bellingeweer (South). The majority of the town's 8,000 inhabitants commute to the nearby city Groningen. The town boasts two traditional Dutch wind mills, two historic churches, two canals, and one of the Netherlands' oldest taverns. The two mills, "De Ster" ("The Star") and "De Vriendschap" ("The Friendship") were built in 1851 and 1801 respectively. The building that the tavern "De Gouden Karper" ("The Golden Carp") now occupies has been in use as a tavern since the 16th century, and is the oldest (unverified) in the Netherlands.

Obergum is part of the town Winsum (Groningen, Netherlands) that lies north of the Winsumerdiep. Originally it was a separate village. Winsum and Obergum have been connected since 1808 by the bridge De Boog (The Arch). The village is built around a wierde (hill) on which a 13th-century Romanesque church stands, called the St. Nicholas Chapel.

De Dingen is a former hamlet in the Dutch province of Groningen. It was located about 1 km south of Baflo. According to the 19th-century historian A.J. van der Aa, the hamlet consisted of four farms, stretching from east to west. There used to be a fortified house here, called "Dingen" or "De Dingen". The farms still exist, and are still called Dingen; but they are no longer considered to be a separate settlement on the newest topographical map of the area.
