Wetsinge

Sauwerd is a village in the municipality of Het Hogeland, Groningen, Netherlands. Until the local government reorganization of 1990 the village was the head of the former municipality of Adorp. The village of Sauwerd is 7 to 10 kilometers away from the nearest city, Groningen. The village is built on a wierde, from which it gets the second part of its name. It is inhabited by an estimated 1,100 people. The internationally known swimmer Ranomi Kromowidjojo was born in Sauwerd and lived there for most of her youth.

Sauwerd is a railway station located in Sauwerd, The Netherlands. The station was opened on 15 June 1884 and is located on the Groningen–Delfzijl railway and the Sauwerd–Roodeschool railway. The train services are operated by Arriva.

The Winsum train disaster took place on 25 July 1980 near Winsum in the Dutch province of Groningen. 9 people died and 21 were injured.The accident took place on a single track between Sauwerd and Roodeschool that did not have ATB or signals, instead the drivers were informed by radio where other trains on the tracks were, which was a less reliable system that relied on trust. In the foggy early morning of 25 July 1980 the driver of commuter train 8726 departed from Winsum railway station. Because of the fog he could not see the other train (8713) coming from Sauwerd, which the traffic controllers had warned him about and they told him to wait departing from Winsum until it had passed. Both trains collided head on.The true cause of the disaster never became clear.

Adorp (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈaːdɔr(ə)p]) is a village in the municipality of Het Hogeland, Netherlands. It is located about 6 km north of Groningen. Until 1990, Adorp was a separate municipality, however the seat was in Sauwerd.

Bellingeweer is part of the town of Winsum, in Groningen, Netherlands. Originally, it was an independent village built on a wierde. Bellingeweer had its own medieval church, which was demolished in 1824. However, the cemetery is still there. The wierde on which the village is built dates from around the year 1 AD and is still clearly visible.

Winsum is a railway station located in Winsum, The Netherlands. The station was opened on 16 August 1893 and is located on the Sauwerd–Roodeschool railway. The train services are operated by Arriva.

Winsum (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈʋɪnsʏm] ; Gronings: Wìnzum [ˈʋɪ̃ːzəm]) is a town and a former municipality in the northeastern Netherlands. On 1 January 2019 the municipality merged with the municipalities of Bedum, De Marne and Eemsmond to form the new municipality Het Hogeland. The town of Winsum was officially established in 1057 as the fusion of three historic villages: Obergum (North), Winsum (center) and Bellingeweer (South). The majority of the town's 8,000 inhabitants commute to the nearby city Groningen. The town boasts two traditional Dutch wind mills, two historic churches, two canals, and one of the Netherlands' oldest taverns. The two mills, "De Ster" ("The Star") and "De Vriendschap" ("The Friendship") were built in 1851 and 1801 respectively. The building that the tavern "De Gouden Karper" ("The Golden Carp") now occupies has been in use as a tavern since the 16th century, and is the oldest (unverified) in the Netherlands.

Obergum is part of the town Winsum (Groningen, Netherlands) that lies north of the Winsumerdiep. Originally it was a separate village. Winsum and Obergum have been connected since 1808 by the bridge De Boog (The Arch). The village is built around a wierde (hill) on which a 13th-century Romanesque church stands, called the St. Nicholas Chapel.

Garnwerd is a wierde village next to the Reitdiep in the municipality of Westerkwartier in the Dutch province of Groningen.

Harssens is a former town located in Groningen, Netherlands. It was already established in the 14th century with a coat of arms of a blue 'griffioen' (winged, lanky, standing lion figure). In 1604 when Warmolus Hilbrandus addressed Kaiser Rudolf II of the Holy Roman Empire the Kaiser made Hildbrandus lord of the estate and recognized the coat of arms. By 1742 the Hilbrandus manor and the church in Harssens were dismantled. The rights to the coat of arms remained and when Adorp was established as a township in 1809 the winged lion of Harssens had a place of honour in the town crest. Harssens is no longer a town but there are plans to rebuild the estate or Harssensborg as a tourist attraction.

Oostum is a wierde on the territory of Garnwerd in the municipality of Westerkwartier in the Dutch province of Groningen. The hamlet lies on the road of the city of Groningen to Garnwerd and is part of the Pieterpad.

De Dingen is a former hamlet in the Dutch province of Groningen. It was located about 1 km south of Baflo. According to the 19th-century historian A.J. van der Aa, the hamlet consisted of four farms, stretching from east to west. There used to be a fortified house here, called "Dingen" or "De Dingen". The farms still exist, and are still called Dingen; but they are no longer considered to be a separate settlement on the newest topographical map of the area.
