In 2021, the population of Barnsley was 1735 individual people, and the average age of the residents living there is 34–36 years.

Seahampton is a hamlet situated north of West Wallsend, New South Wales, Australia, located 21 kilometres (13 mi) west of the city of Newcastle's central business district and west of the Sydney-Newcastle Freeway. It is a suburb of the City of Lake Macquarie local government area. Seahampton's origins are in coal mining. Seaham No. 1 Colliery was opened here on 6 March 1890 by the Monkwearmouth Coal Company which was reformed and renamed the Seaham Coal Company Ltd., in 1896. The shaft was 460 feet (140 m) deep and serviced the Borehole seam which here was about five feet nine inches thick. Its peak production was 1,450 tons per day and the coal was shipped via the company's private railway to the New South Wales Government line at Cockle Creek Junction. The colliery closed on 7 July 1932, during the Great Depression, and never re-opened. The township of Seahampton was surveyed in 1889 to provide homesites for colliery employees.

Teralba is a town and suburb of Greater Newcastle, City of Lake Macquarie in New South Wales, Australia, between the towns of Speers Point and Booragul on the northern shoreline of Lake Macquarie. The town first came into being with the construction of the Homebush to Waratah Railway in the early 1880s.

Teralba railway station is located on the Main Northern line in New South Wales, Australia. It serves the City of Lake Macquarie suburb of Teralba.As part of the electrification of the line in the early 1980s, the northbound platform was removed and the southbound platform converted to an island platform to allow the line south of the station to be realigned for faster speeds. The prominent signal box on top of the island platform was removed at the same time. In 2011, the station building was demolished and replaced by a waiting shed.

Cockle Creek Power Station was located in Teralba, New South Wales, Australia on the banks of Cockle Creek. The power stationed operated from 11 March 1927 until March 1976.

Fassifern railway station is located on the Main Northern line in New South Wales, Australia. It serves the City of Lake Macquarie suburb of Fassifern, opening in 1888.The station has three platforms, although only two are in use, the third being the former branch-line platform for the Toronto line that closed in 1990. North of the line is a balloon loop for the Newstan Colliery that is served by Southern Shorthaul Railroad hauled trains. In 1984, a footbridge was installed as part of the electrification of the line. It was replaced in 1994 when lifts were added.

The 1989 Newcastle earthquake was an intraplate earthquake that occurred in Newcastle, New South Wales on Thursday 28 December. The shock measured 5.6 on the Richter magnitude scale and was one of Australia's most serious natural disasters, killing 13 people and injuring more than 160. The damage bill has been estimated at A$4 billion (or $8.5 billion in 2018, adjusted for inflation), including an insured loss of about $1 billion (or $2.1 billion in 2018, adjusted for inflation).The effects were felt over an area of around 200,000 square kilometres (77,000 sq mi) in the state of New South Wales, with isolated reports of movement in areas up to 800 kilometres (500 mi) from Newcastle. Damage to buildings and facilities was reported over an area of 9,000 km2 (3,500 sq mi).

Booragul is a suburb of the City of Lake Macquarie, Greater Newcastle in New South Wales, Australia, and is located north-northeast of the town of Toronto on the western shore Lake Macquarie. Booragul railway station is on the Central Coast & Newcastle Line.

Booragul railway station is located on the Main Northern line in New South Wales, Australia. It serves the City of Lake Macquarie suburb of Booragul opening on 24 October 1926.The original station buildings were extensively damaged in the 1989 Newcastle earthquake, resulting in their demolition and replacement with the current structures. A housing development west of the station is currently under construction, however, there is no convenient access to the railway station, and will likely do little to increase patronage (which averaged at 110 passengers per day in 2013).
