Cockle Creek Power Station

Booragul is a suburb of the City of Lake Macquarie, Greater Newcastle in New South Wales, Australia, and is located north-northeast of the town of Toronto on the western shore Lake Macquarie. Booragul railway station is on the Central Coast & Newcastle Line.

The 1989 Newcastle earthquake was an intraplate earthquake that occurred in Newcastle, New South Wales on Thursday 28 December. The shock measured 5.6 on the Richter magnitude scale and was one of Australia's most serious natural disasters, killing 13 people and injuring more than 160. The damage bill has been estimated at A$4 billion (or $8.5 billion in 2018, adjusted for inflation), including an insured loss of about $1 billion (or $2.1 billion in 2018, adjusted for inflation).The effects were felt over an area of around 200,000 square kilometres (77,000 sq mi) in the state of New South Wales, with isolated reports of movement in areas up to 800 kilometres (500 mi) from Newcastle. Damage to buildings and facilities was reported over an area of 9,000 km2 (3,500 sq mi).

Argenton is a suburb of the city of Lake Macquarie, Greater Newcastle in New South Wales, Australia 16 kilometres (10 mi) west of the Newcastle's central business district in Lake Macquarie's West Ward.

Cockle Creek railway station is located on the Main Northern line in New South Wales, Australia. It serves the City of Lake Macquarie suburb of Boolaroo. The station is on the eastern side of Cockle Creek and a balloon loop exists west of the creek for the Teralba Colliery.

Lake Macquarie City FC is a football club in Lake Macquarie, New South Wales. The club was formed in 1912 formed by a group of Scottish miners in the area.

Cockle Creek Smelter was a zinc and lead smelter located at the northern end of Lake Macquarie near Boolaroo in Newcastle, New South Wales. The smelter was built in by the Sulphide Corporation in 1896 and the first attempts to refine zinc using the Ashcroft Process began in 1897 but that process was abandoned shortly after due to technical difficulties. The plant was subsequently adapted to smelt Lead using blast furnace technology. The smelter produced large quantities of Zinc, Lead and sulphuric acid during its life. The Cockle Creek Smelter was one of the Hunter regions first major industrial site and its operation contributed to the economic growth of New South Wales and Australia. Other materials were produced at the smelter to fill the need as required such as Cement, Superphosphate and compounds for explosive manufacture for the war effort in World War I and World War II. A rail connection was made from the plant to the Newcastle line on 16 July 1896. The smelter closed in September 2003, since it had become uneconomic. Teralba railway station is located on the Main Northern line in New South Wales, Australia. It serves the City of Lake Macquarie suburb of Teralba.As part of the electrification of the line in the early 1980s, the northbound platform was removed and the southbound platform converted to an island platform to allow the line south of the station to be realigned for faster speeds. The prominent signal box on top of the island platform was removed at the same time. In 2011, the station building was demolished and replaced by a waiting shed.

The town first came into being with the construction of the Homebush to Waratah Railway in the early 1880s.

Boolaroo is a suburb of Greater Newcastle, city of Lake Macquarie, New South Wales, Australia, located 19 kilometres (12 mi) west of Newcastle's central business district in Lake Macquarie's West Ward. It was the epicenter of the 1989 Newcastle earthquake. Boolaroo borders a number of well-known towns and suburbs within the Lake Macquarie Region, including Warners Bay and Speers Point, and, for a small strip of land, fronts onto Lake Macquarie itself. Within Boolaroo is Cockle Creek railway station, a small station on the Central Coast & Newcastle Line. Also, Boolaroo previously housed a lead/zinc smelter, owned by the former Pasminco (now Zinifex) however the site has been cleared since the smelter ceased operations in 2003. Boolaroo is home to several churches, of various denominations, as well as Boolaroo Public School, a library, a cinema (which was partially destroyed in the 1989 Newcastle earthquake) and a number of shops, including a small supermarket and a military disposal store.
