Hamilton Square

The Queen Victoria Monument stands in the centre of Hamilton Square, Birkenhead, Wirral, Merseyside, England. It is in the form of an Eleanor cross. The memorial was designed by Edmund Kirby, and was unveiled in 1905. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building.

The Statue of John Laird stands on the west side of Hamilton Square, Birkenhead, Merseyside, England. It commemorates the life of John Laird, a local ship builder, politician and benefactor. The statue was sculpted by Albert Bruce-Joy, and unveiled in 1877 by Lord Tollemache. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building.

Birkenhead War Memorial, or Birkenhead Cenotaph, stands in Hamilton Square, Birkenhead, Merseyside, England, opposite the Town Hall. It consists of a cenotaph in Portland stone with carved figures and panels in Westmorland stone. The memorial was designed by Lionel Budden, and the sculptor was H. Tyson Smith. It was unveiled in 1925 by Lieutenant-General Sir Richard H. K. Butler. The memorial is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building.

Birkenhead Town Hall is a civic building and former town hall in Birkenhead on the Wirral Peninsula in Merseyside, England. The building was the former administrative headquarters of the County Borough of Birkenhead, and more recently, council offices for the Metropolitan Borough of Wirral. Birkenhead Town Hall remains the location of the town's register office. However, since the closure of the Wirral Museum in 2010, there is uncertainty over the future purpose of the Grade II* listed building.

Woodside is a small riverside locality in Birkenhead, on the Wirral Peninsula, England, situated almost opposite Liverpool Pier Head across the River Mersey.

Birkenhead () is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Wirral, Merseyside, England; historically, until 1974, in Cheshire. It is on the Wirral Peninsula, along the south bank of the River Mersey, opposite the city of Liverpool. At the 2011 census, it had a population of 88,818.Birkenhead Priory and the Mersey Ferry were established in the 12th century. In the 19th century, Birkenhead expanded greatly as a consequence of the Industrial Revolution. Birkenhead Park and Hamilton Square were laid out as well as the first street tramway in Britain. The Mersey Railway connected Birkenhead and Liverpool, with the world's first tunnel beneath a tidal estuary, and the shipbuilding firm Cammell Laird and a seaport were established. In the second half of the 20th century, the town suffered a significant period of decline, with containerisation causing a reduction in port activity. The Wirral Waters development is planned to regenerate much of the dockland.

Birkenhead Hamilton Square railway station (commonly shortened to Hamilton Square station) is situated near Hamilton Square in Birkenhead, Wirral, England, on the Wirral Line of the Merseyrail network. It is an underground station, the platforms being reached by lifts from the surface.

Shore Road Goods was a goods terminus in Birkenhead, England. The goods station was situated near to Morpeth Dock, on the Birkenhead Dock Branch railway line, and operated by the Cheshire Lines Committee. The CLC was granted permission to run two locomotives on the dock lines from 13 March 1884. The engine shed, which adjoined the goods station, was opened in 1888 and closed in 1961. The main building of the goods station is still in existence, and is used as an office for Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council's archives service.

Dock Branch Park is a public park which is due to be built in Birkenhead, Merseyside, England. The idea for the park came from Wirral Council's long–term vision for the development of Birkenhead, known as the Birkenhead 2040 Framework. As part of this framework, the council hoped to create more parks and green spaces for the public. The project runs through a community with limited access to green space, scoring among the lowest on the national Fields in Trust Green Space Index. The park will stretch from Bidston Dock to Rock Ferry, utilising land that was previously occupied by the Birkenhead Dock Branch railway line. The railway line was created in 1847 but with the decline of the docks and rail freight traffic it has been disused since 1993. Initial phases costing around £13 million, the park will eventually be over a mile long and will cover 30 hectares of land. It is hoped that the park will provide a pedestrian and cycle–friendly route as well as catalysing development land for 1,000 homes, a new outdoor music venue for Future Yard and linking with an enhanced Wirral Transport Museum. Clearance work on the site began in May 2022 with completion estimated to be in autumn 2025.

Birkenhead Grange Lane was a railway station in Birkenhead, England. On opening, the station was the northern terminus of the Chester and Birkenhead Railway. The station was opened in 1840, and closed to passengers in 1844 but the site remained in use for goods until the 1970s.

Birkenhead Town railway station is a disused railway station in Birkenhead, Wirral, England. It was located near the current entrance to the Queensway Tunnel on Grange Road.

The Shore Road Pumping Station is a pumping station in Birkenhead, on the Wirral Peninsula, England. It was designed by engineers James Brunlees and Charles Douglas Fox and built in the 1880s as part of the Mersey Railway. The building originally housed two steam powered beam engine pumps which removed water from the railway tunnel under the River Mersey. These had ceased working by 1959 when they were replaced by electric pumps. One of the engines, named the 'Giant Grasshopper', remains in situ and was restored to working condition. The pumping station is a three-storeyed brick construction in the Italianate architectural style, with a Welsh slate roof. An external staircase, housed within a glass structure, was added to the front of the building in the late 1980s when being converted into a museum. A similar building, the Mann Island Pumping Station, also still exists across the river in Liverpool. Shore Road Pumping Station was granted Grade II listed status in 1992 and eventually became part of the Wirral Museum, with a period 1901 Birkenhead street scene reconstructed in the yard.In 2009, as part of its Strategic Asset Review, owners Wirral Borough Council planned to sell the museum. Sometime after mid-2012 but before early 2014, the museum closed to the public.
