Blackford (Scottish Gaelic: Srath Gaoithe) is located in Perth and Kinross, Scotland, approximately 5 miles (8 kilometres) from the town of Auchterarder. The village is located just off the A9 between Perth and Stirling which has been bypassed since 1978. It is home to Highland Spring water and the Tullibardine whisky distillery.

Blackford railway station served the village of Blackford, Perth and Kinross, Scotland from 1848 to 1956 on the Scottish Central Railway.

Glen Eagles (Scottish Gaelic: Gleann na h-Eaglais/Gleann Eagas) is a glen which connects with Glen Devon to form a pass through the Ochil Hills of Perth and Kinross in Scotland. (The spelling as two words, 'Glen Eagles', is as shown on UK Ordnance Survey maps.) The name's origin has nothing to do with eagles, and is a corruption of eaglais or ecclesia, meaning church, and refers to the chapel and well of Saint Mungo, which was restored as a memorial to the Haldane family which owns the Gleneagles estate.Gleneagles House at the northern entrance to Gleneagles comprises a 1750 extension to an earlier 17th-century building that is approached by an avenue of lime trees planted to commemorate the Battle of Camperdown. Little remains of Gleneagles Castle, the early 16th-century tower house of the Haldanes. The Caledonian Railway Company used its name for the Gleneagles Hotel and golf course they built some distance from the glen at the edge of Auchterarder. The hotel hosted the 31st G8 summit conference in July 2005. Gleneagles railway station, formerly known as Crieff Junction, is on the line between Perth and Stirling. As its name suggests, this was the junction for the Crieff Junction Railway, which closed in 1964.

Carsbreck railway station was a private station opened on the Scottish Central Railway near Carsebreck Loch, the Royal Caledonian Curling pond, between Stirling and Perth for the use of the curlers belonging to the Royal Caledonian Curling Club. It was first named by the Scottish Central Railway as 'Royal Curling Club Station, a host of later names being Caledonian Curling Society's Platform, Curling Pond Halt, Royal Curling Club Platform, Royal Curling Club Station, Netherton Halt and finally as Carsbreck Station. It is unclear how many of these were official names. The site lay in the parish of Ardoch, Perth and Kinross with the villages of Braco, Greenloaning and Blackford nearby. The Scottish Central Railway line had been opened in 1848.

The 2018 European Golf Team Championships was a golf tournament played in August 2018 at Gleneagles, Scotland. It was the inaugural event and consisted of three competitions – men's, women's and mixed team format. 16 two-player teams took part in both men's and women's competitions.The event was part of the 2018 European Championships, the inaugural edition of the European Championships, a multi-sport event which took place in Berlin, Germany, and Glasgow, Scotland from 2 to 12 August 2018. Iceland topped the medal table, with a surprise win in the mixed team event the highlight of a campaign that returned two medals. Hosts Great Britain and Sweden both returned two medals, the latter including the gold in the women's team event, while Spain triumphed in the men's team. The format failed to attract the highest ranked players, with Great Britain's Georgia Hall, ranked 10th in the world, the only player from the top 200 in the World of either sex to participate. No further championships were arranged after the inaugural event, and golf did not reappear in the list of European Championships events in 2022.

South Tayside Goose Roosts is a composite wetland site to the west of Perth in central Scotland, covering a total of 331 hectares, which has been protected as a Ramsar Site since 1993. Incorporating three disconnected sections, separated by several kilometres, the site contains seven freshwater lochs along with other wetland habitats, including one of the largest raised bogs in the region.The site is contiguous with three Sites of Special Scientific Interest: Carsebreck and Rhynd Lochs SSSI, containing Lower Rhynd, Upper Rhynd and Carsebreck Loch, as well as the raised bog known as Shelforkie Moss. Drummond Lochs SSSI, containing Drummond Pond and Bennybeg Pond. Dupplin Lakes SSSI, containing Dupplin Loch and Pitcairnie Loch.The roosts support internationally important populations of greylag geese and pink-footed geese. As well as being recognised as a wetland of international importance under the Ramsar Convention, South Tayside Goose Roosts has also been designated a Special Protection Area and a Special Area of Conservation.

The 3rd Curtis Cup Match was played on 6 May 1936 on the King's Course at Gleneagles Hotel in Auchterarder, Perthshire, Scotland. The match ended in a tie at 41⁄2 each and the United States, as the holders, retained the trophy.The final match to finish was between Jessie Anderson and Leona Cheney. America led 41⁄2–31⁄2 and had already retained the Cup but Britain could still tie the contest. Anderson and Cheney were all square after 17 holes. Cheney took 5 at the last but Anderson holed a putt of 7 or 8 yards for a 4, to win her match and tie the contest.

The 40th Ryder Cup matches were held 26–28 September 2014 in Scotland on the PGA Centenary Course at the Gleneagles Hotel near Auchterarder in Perth & Kinross. This was the second Ryder Cup held in Scotland; it was previously at Muirfield in 1973. The team captains in 2014 were Paul McGinley for Europe and Tom Watson for the USA. Europe were the defending cup holders, having won in 2012 at Medinah Country Club near Chicago. Europe won the 2014 competition to retain the Ryder Cup, defeating the US by 161⁄2 points to 111⁄2, for their third consecutive win. From 1995 to 2014, Europe won eight out of ten Ryder Cups.

Sweden 3 took the title from the France 2 team on a second play-off hole - in effect the 20th hole, having finished all square after 18. The Great Britain 3 team won bronze.

Gleneagles Hotel is a hotel near Auchterarder, Scotland. It was commissioned by the Caledonian Railway and opened in 1924. The bandleader Henry Hall performed at the hotel before the Second World War during which it served as a military hospital. There are three tournament-standard golf courses in the grounds and the hotel was redeveloped for the 40th Ryder Cup in 2014. Significant conferences at the hotel have included the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting 1977 and the 31st G8 summit in July 2005. It is a Category B listed building.

The 2019 Solheim Cup was the 16th edition of the Solheim Cup matches, held from 13 to 15 September at the Gleneagles PGA Centenary Course in Scotland. The Solheim Cup is a biennial team competition between the top women professional golfers from Europe and the United States. It is a three-day match play event between teams of twelve players with a similar format to the Ryder Cup. Juli Inkster captained the U.S. team for the third time and Catriona Matthew captained the European team for the first time.After the first two days the competition was tied at 8-all. Europe won the singles 61⁄2–51⁄2 to win the Cup for the first time since 2013.
