Mangetsu-ji (満月寺) is a temple beside Lake Biwa in Ōtsu, Shiga Prefecture, Japan. The Heian period statue of Shō Kannon is an Important Cultural Property. The temple, specifically the Ukimidō "floating temple" hall, features in one of the remaining views of the Eight Views of Ōmi, originally drawn by Hiroshige. The print featuring the temple is "The wild geese returning home at Katata" (堅田の落雁).

Mizu-no-mori means "water forest" in Japanese. It is located on Lake Biwa's southeastern shore on the Karasuma Peninsula in Oroshimo-cho, Kusatsu, Shiga, Japan, and open daily except Mondays. An admission fee is charged.

The Shigaraki Palace (紫香楽宮, Shigaraki-no-miya, also written 信楽宮) was an imperial palace built by Emperor Shōmu, initially as a villa, later named by himself as the capital of Japan in 744 AD. It was located in Kōka District of Ōmi Province in what is now part of the city of Kōka, Shiga Prefecture, Japan. The capital-palace is also referred to as Kōka Palace (甲賀宮, Kōka-no-miya) in the Shoku Nihongi. Its ruins were designated a National Historic Site of Japan in 1974.
