Manor House School, Little Bookham

The Howard of Effingham School is a co-educational secondary school and sixth form with academy status. It is located in the village of Effingham, Surrey, to the west of Little Bookham. The school is part of the Howard Partnership Trust, a Multi-Academy Trust which includes four secondary and five primary schools. The school is named after Charles Howard the second Baron Howard of Effingham of the Howard Family who was commander of the English forces during the battles against the Spanish Armada in 1588 and was chiefly responsible after Francis Drake for the victory that saved England from invasion by the Spanish Empire. The Howard Partnership Trust is currently led by its chief executive officer, Rhona Barnfield CBE, and the school's principal is James Baker who took over from Helen Pennington in September 2021. The school was judged in 2019 to be Good by Ofsted.

Little Bookham is a small, historic village in Surrey, England between Great Bookham and Effingham. It is home to several listed historical buildings, included in a large conservation area, along with Ye Olde Windsor Castle public house, Manor House School, and All Saints' Church. The village is centred immediately north of the North Downs and is contiguous with Great Bookham, the two divisions of Bookham having been made in the early medieval period.

Effingham is a small English village in the Borough of Guildford in Surrey, reaching from the gently sloping northern plain to the crest of the North Downs and with a medieval parish church. The town has been chosen as the home of notable figures, such as Sir Barnes Wallis who was buried here and Toni Mascolo. The M25 motorway is 4 miles (6.4 km) north-west of the middle of the town which mostly consists of new build homes in the Metropolitan Green Belt. An eponymous Junction railway station is 50m north of its boundary in East Horsley, where a branch of the Sutton and Mole Valley Lines joins the New Guildford Line, which have services terminating at London Waterloo.

Effingham Hundred or the Hundred of Effingham was a hundred but often treated as a half-hundred with that of Copthorne (to the east and north-east) and was the smallest in Surrey, England.

Bookham railway station is in the village of Great Bookham in Surrey, England. It also serves the adjacent village of Little Bookham. It is 20 miles 45 chains (33.1 km) down the line from London Waterloo. The station is managed by South Western Railway, which provides the majority of train services; Southern also provides some peak-period services.

Great Bookham is a village in Surrey, England, one of six semi-urban spring line settlements between the towns of Leatherhead and Guildford. With the narrow strip parish of Little Bookham, it forms part of the Saxon settlement of Bocham ("the village by the beeches"). The Bookhams are surrounded by common land, and Bookham railway station in Church Road, Great Bookham, serves both settlements. The villages are astride the A246, which is the non-motorway and direct route between the two towns. Once two distinct villages, the Bookhams have long been interconnected with residential roads that give the impression of one large village. On the southern edge of the village is Polesden Lacey, a country house surrounded by more than 1,000 acres (4.0 km2) of grounds. It is owned by the National Trust and open to the public.

Bookham Football Club is a football club based in Great Bookham, near Leatherhead in Surrey, England. Affiliated to the Surrey County Football Association, they are currently members of the Guildford & Woking Alliance Division Two and play at the Chrystie Recreation Ground.

Polesden Lacey is an Edwardian house and estate, located on the North Downs at Great Bookham, near Dorking, Surrey, England. It is owned and run by the National Trust and is one of the Trust's most popular properties. This Regency house was expanded from an earlier building, and extensively remodelled in 1906 by Margaret Greville, a well-known Edwardian hostess. Her collection of fine paintings, furniture, porcelain and silver is displayed in the reception rooms and galleries, as it was at the time of her celebrated house parties. The future George VI and Queen Elizabeth spent part of their honeymoon there in 1923. The 1,400-acre (570 ha) estate includes a walled rose garden, lawns, ancient woodland and landscape walks.

Eastwick Park, also Eastwich Park, at Great Bookham in Surrey, England (for the period 1726–1958) was the family seat of the Howards of Effingham for about seventy years.

Bookham Commons are two commons, situated just to the north of the villages of Great Bookham and Little Bookham, in Surrey, England, 154.7 hectares (382 acres) in extent; the individual parts are named Great Bookham Common and Little Bookham Common. A group of dwellings known as the Isle of Wight is situated within the site, and a track, Common Road, leads to it from the northwest. Little Bookham Common (the smaller of the two parts of the site) lies south and west of this track, whereas Great Bookham Common lies to the east. Together the two commons comprise a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The site is owned by the National Trust. A network of public footpaths and public bridleways cross the site: in addition, there are a number of concessionary horse rides.

St Teresa's Effingham is a selective, independent boarding and day school for girls aged 2–18 in Effingham, Surrey, England, established in 1928. It is a member of the Girls' Schools Association.

The Grange is a gothic regency manor house in Stoke d'Abernon, Surrey that dates back to the 15th Century. It was part of the Eastwick Manor estate and is close to Slyfield House that also was part of the same estate. It was acquired in 1780 by Samuel Castle who over a number of years transformed the house into a substantial four-bay house retaining the cottage chimney. The gothic regency style is similar to that seen at Strawberry Hill House in nearby twickenham. The house was briefly called the Grange in the 1950s according to the note 'Over the bridge to Bookham' in the St Mary's Parish Magazine of 1952, by the historian T. E. C. Walker in which he described a local walk "Bending back to Stoke we come to the Grange, formerly Bookham Lodge, Byant's Farm and Fryse Hill. It may go back as an inhabited site to about 1340 and though modernised retains early work". It was renamed the Grange in 2018 after being called Bookham Lodge for many years Writing in St Mary's Parish Magazine of June 1952, the then rector, John Waterson, said:"The Reverend Frederick Parr Phillips purchased practically the whole parish of Stoke D'Abernon in 1852, including the Grange (Fanny Burney's old house) and also became Rector in 1862 having already been in charge of the church for nearly ten years".In 1854, Bookham Lodge was acquired by Frances, Viscountess Chewton, niece of Frances Lady Waldergrave and Lady of the Bedchamber to Queen Victoria from 1855 to 1901. She lived at Bookham lodge for almost 50 years before dying there in April 1902. Viscountess Chewton's name is perpetuated in the Lady Chewton Wood to the south of Bookham Lodge. In 1931 the freehold was sold to Sir Edmund and Lady Wyldbore-Smith. Sir Edmund Wyldbore-Smith was the British chargé d'affaires in Tangier at the time of the Perdicaris incident.
