Berkhout

Bobeldijk is a village in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Koggenland, and lies about 5 km west of Hoorn. The village was first mentioned in 1450 as "den Boebeldijck", and means "dike with spike rushes (Eleocharis)". Bobeldijk has place name signs. The village was home to 165 people in 1840.

De Hulk (Dutch pronunciation: [də ˈɦʏl(ə)k]) is a hamlet and nature reserve in the municipalities of Koggenland and Hoorn in the Dutch province of North Holland.

Baarsdorpermeer is a hamlet and polder in the municipality of Koggenland in the province of North Holland in the Netherlands. The hamlet is named after the water, which itself would have been named after an older place called Baarsdorp, which was first attested in 1345 as Barsdorp. This would probably have been a compound of the Middle Dutch Baer (a personal name) and dorp ('village'). The current place was mentioned in 1745 as Baersdorpermeer, which itself is a compound of Baersdorp and meer ('lake').The hamlet formally falls under the village of Zuidermeer. The place is located in the extension of that village and continues to Lekermeer. It is located in the Baarsdorpmeerpolder and just west of the city of Hoorn. Until 1 January 1979 Baarsdorpermeer fell under the city and municipality of Berkhout. From 1979 to 2007 it belonged to the municipality of Wester-Koggenland, into which the municipality of Berkhout was merged. Baarsdorpermeer falls almost entirely within the village area of Zuidermeer. Until the 1980s, that was a quarter of the place. This is also where most of the houses are found. As one travels further from the village centre, one also encounters more agricultural habitation. Baarsdorpermeer has one side road, which also dead ends at an agricultural company. The water of De Kromme Leek starts at Baarsdorpermeer and continues to Medemblik. This water was an important drainage water before the exploitation of the peat area from the early Middle Ages and also after the exploitation. At the area border with Lekermeer and Wognum, the area still has the old typical type of local allotment. Further on, the winding course has been preserved as much as possible during the centuries-later land consolidation.

Zuidermeer is a village in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Koggenland and lies about 6 km west of Hoorn. The village was first mentioned in 1665 as Zuyder M., and means "southern lake". It refers to the Baarsdorpermeer which was poldered in 1624. Zuid- ("south") has been added to distinguish from Noordermeer. Zuidermeer was home to 87 people in 1840.In 1898, a railway station opened on the Alkmaar to Hoorn railway line. It closed in 1938. In 1934, the Catholic Our Lady of Lourdes Church was built with the expectation that the village would grow in the future. The village house moved into the church after the local pub closed down, and it was decided in 2007 to transform the church in a multifunctional centre.

Grosthuizen is a village in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Koggenland, and lies about 7 km southwest of Hoorn. The village was first mentioned in the 12th century 1420 Asthusa, and means "big (eastern) settlement". Grost (big) was added to distinguish from Oosthuizen. Later Ast (east) was dropped from the name. Grosthuizen developed as a peat excavation settlement in the 13th century. In 1874, a church was built, but demolished in 1965. Only a belfry remains.Grosthuizen was home to 307 people in 1840. It was a separate municipality between 1817 and 1854, when it was merged with Avenhorn. In 2007, it became part of the municipality of Koggenland.

Wognum (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈʋɔɣnʏm] ) is a former municipality and a town in the Netherlands, in the province of North Holland. Wognum received city rights in 1392 but lost them in 1426. In 2007 it merged with the municipalities of Medemblik and Noorder-Koggenland into the surviving municipality of Medemblik.

Scharwoude is a village in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Koggenland, and lies about 5 km southwest of Hoorn. The village was first mentioned around 1312 as Scaderwoude. The etymology is unclear. Scharwoude often experienced floods due to its proximity to the former Zuiderzee. It was flooded in 1375. The current shape of the dike and the village date from 1854. The former church dates from 1892. It was decommissioned in 1986, and is now a residential home.

Scharwoude is a former municipality in the Dutch province of North Holland. It existed between 1812 and 1817, when it was divided into two municipalities: Noord-Scharwoude and Zuid-Scharwoude. It is now part of the municipality of Langedijk.

Noordermeer is a hamlet in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Koggenland, and lies about 5 km east of Heerhugowaard. The hamlet was first mentioned in 1575 as Noore meer, and means "northern lake" which refers to the Baarsdorpermeer. Noorder ("northern") has been added to distinguish from Zuidermeer.Noordermeer is not a statistical entity, and the postal authorities have placed it under Zuidermeer. It consists of about 25 houses.

The Jewish cemetery in Hoorn can refer to the original Jewish cemetery on the outskirts of the Dutch city of Hoorn (where the first burial took place in 1762), or to a separate section of today's public cemetery. That Jewish section was opened in 1968, after the old Jewish cemetery was cleared for road construction. The history of the cemetery reflects that of the Jewish community in Hoorn, which started in the Dutch Golden Age, prospered in the 18th and 19th centuries, and declined in the 20th century, when the cemetery suffered from lack of maintenance. The Nazis ended what was left, and organizationally, the Jewish community of Hoorn merged with that of Enkhuizen. The current public cemetery of Hoorn commemorates the original cemetery, and has 219 gravestones from the original cemetery, and the remains of over 600 people.

Spierdijk is a village in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Koggenland, and lies about 13 kilometres (8.1 mi) east of Alkmaar.The village was first mentioned in 1365 as Spierdijck, and is a combination a long reed stick and dike. Spierdijk developed on the edge of the Wogmeer as a peat excavation village.The Catholic St Georgius Church is a three aisled cruciform church with needle spire which was built between 1849 and 1850.
