The Battle of Drumclog was fought on 1 June 1679, between a group of Covenanters and the forces of John Graham of Claverhouse, at Drumclog, in South Lanarkshire, Scotland.

Drumclog Moss is a flat wilderness of broken bog and quagmire in Lanarkshire, Scotland. The Covenanters defeated Claverhouse's dragoons at the site in the 1679 Battle of Drumclog. The name Drumclog may have Brittonic origins. The first part of the name may be *drum, meaning "a back, a ridge", and the second *clog, "a rock, a crag, a steep cliff" (Welsh drum-clog), in place names meaning a standing stone or other stones of perceived significance. The second part of the name could also be the cognate Gaelic element clach.

Dungavel Immigration Removal Centre is an immigration detention facility in South Lanarkshire, Scotland, near the town of Strathaven that is also known as Dungavel Castle or Dungavel House. It is operated by Mitie Care and Custody, under contract with the law-enforcement command Immigration Enforcement for its detention of immigrants for the Home Office. It is the only such facility in Scotland. The announced closure of Dungavel in September 2016 was rescinded in February 2017, with a planned replacement cancelled and Dungavel to remain open.

Caldermill is a small settlement in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. Caldermill is 3 miles (5 km) south-west of Strathaven, and is the next settlement a driver will come across after leaving Strathaven on the A71 westbound towards Kilmarnock. It is a hamlet of just a few houses. For children raised in Caldermill, the closest primary school is Gilmourton Primary, in the nearby hamlet of Drumclog, which is 2 miles (3 km) further along the A71 towards Kilmarnock. The nearest high school is Strathaven Academy, located in the town of Strathaven.

The Trumpeter's Well at Caldermill in South Lanarkshire is recorded as the site of the death of a government trumpeter or cornet who was killed in the aftermath of the 1679 Battle of Drumclog at which the Covenanters were victorious.

Priestland is a village in East Ayrshire, Scotland. It has a population of 121 (Census 2001) and lies on the A71, around two miles west of Loudoun Hill, ten miles east of Kilmarnock and twenty miles south of Glasgow. It is situated in a valley through which the River Irvine runs and alongside the burghs of Galston, Newmilns and Darvel (with which it borders), forms an area known as the Upper Irvine Valley (locally referred to as The Valley).

Greenock Water is a river in East Ayrshire, Scotland. It flows out of the Dippal Burn, about 2 miles south of Dungavel Hill. A tributary of the River Ayr, it joins it about 4 miles west of the small town of Muirkirk. It is quite a short river and is not well known.
