Whitchurch, Shropshire

Mediolanum was a fort and small town in the Roman province of Britannia. Today it is known as Whitchurch, located in the English county of Shropshire.

St Alkmund's Church is an active Anglican parish church in Whitchurch, Shropshire, England. By tradition, this church was founded in the 900s CE by the Saxon Queen Æthelflæd ('Lady of the Mercians' and daughter of Alfred the Great). Certain sources suggest that the saint to whom it is dedicated, St. Alkmund, (the son of Alhred, King of Northumbria (d. c. 800), was first buried in Whitchurch.It is in the diocese of Lichfield, the archdeaconry of Salop and the deanery of Wem and Whitchurch.The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England which has designated it a Grade I listed building.It stands at an elevated position in the centre of the town.

Heath Road is a cricket ground in Whitchurch, Shropshire. The first recorded match on the ground was in 1982, when Whitchurch played Singapore in a warm-up match for the 1982 ICC Trophy. Shropshire played their first match at the ground in the 1999 MCCA Knockout Trophy against Cumberland. The following season they played their first Minor Counties Championship match at the ground against Herefordshire. From 2000 to present, the ground has hosted 10 Minor Counties Championship matches.The ground has also held a single List-A match in the 2005 Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy, which saw Shropshire play Hampshire. Hampshire captained by Shane Warne, won thanks to 76 runs from Kevin Pietersen as Hampshire chased down their target of 133 in 21.1 overs for the loss of 3 wickets.In local domestic cricket, London Road is the home ground of Whitchurch Cricket Club who play in the Birmingham and District Premier League Two.

Wirswall is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Marbury and District, in the unitary authority area of Cheshire East and the ceremonial county of Cheshire, England, located at SJ544441 near the Shropshire border, around 1½ miles north of Whitchurch. The historical township had an area of 973 acres (3.94 km2). The civil parish also included the settlements of Bradeley Green, Wicksted and part of Willey Moor.According to the 2001 Census, the parish had a population of 76. At the 2011 Census the population of the civil parish remained less than 100. Details are now included in the civil parish of Marbury cum Quoisley.

Brown Moss is a Site of Special Scientific Interest, Local Nature Reserve and important wetland area rich in wildlife close to Whitchurch, Shropshire. It is open to visitors and contains a number of self-guided walking trails. The name 'moss' derives from the local word for a peat bog.
