Preston Bagot

Beaudesert Castle was on a high mound overlooking the village of Beaudesert to the east of Henley-in-Arden, Warwickshire (grid reference SP15606613). It is a scheduled ancient monument.The remains found on the site show that it was originally an Iron Age fort which gave the mount its ancient name, Donnilee. The hilltop and the surrounding area was "sculpted" to form a motte and bailey fortification with its timber Hall following the Norman conquest. It was followed by the construction of a stone castle. According to sources it was Thurston De Montfort who built the stone castle here in 1140 during the reign of Henry II, and it remained the De Montfort seat for more than a hundred years. Peter de Montfort also resided at the castle. The Earl of Warwick took possession of the De Montfort's land in approximately 1369, and subsequently the castle's importance declined. According to some accounts it was repaired in 1411 but later abandoned. During the early years of the War of the Roses, between York and Lancaster, the castle, which was then unoccupied and had fallen into disrepair, was dismantled, and its heavy timbers were, according to some sources, used for the construction of stately houses at Henley. A single stone and earthworks remain today, along with evidence of two fishponds and some remains of the motte and bailey fortification.The site was investigated by the archaeologists of Time Team in series 9 (2002).

Yarningale Aqueduct is one of three aqueducts on a 4 miles (6 km) length of the Stratford-upon-Avon Canal in Warwickshire. It spans the Kingswood Brook near the village of Claverdon. All three aqueducts are unusual in that the towpaths are at the level of the canal bottom. Originally built between 1812 and 1816 as a wooden structure, the aqueduct is a single-berth navigation over a local stream, and is approximately 42 feet (13 m) long. It leads into the 34th lock – "Bucket Lock" – on the canal, the middle of a three-lock flight in the Claverdon area. In 1834, the aqueduct was destroyed by flooding of the two waterways, caused by a surge from the nearby Grand Union Canal. It was rebuilt in cast iron the same year by Horseley Ironworks.

Beaudesert (pronounced ) is a village, civil parish and former manor in the Stratford-on-Avon district of Warwickshire, England, immediately east across the River Alne to the east of Henley-in-Arden, to which it is closely associated and shares a joint parish council with. The main village, consisting of the church and a single short street of houses, stands close to the river and directly opposite Henley Church. Behind the village to the east rises the hill, locally known as 'The Mount', crowned with the earthwork remains of Beaudesert Castle of the De Montforts. According to the 2001 Census it had a population of 919, increasing to 990 at the 2011 Census.

Henley-in-Arden (also known as simply Henley) is a market town and civil parish in the Stratford-on-Avon District in Warwickshire, England. The town takes its last name from the former Forest of Arden. Henley is known for its variety of historic buildings, some of which date back to medieval times, and its wide variety of preserved architectural styles. The one-mile-long (1.6 km) High Street is a conservation area. In 2020 the population of the civil parish of Henley-in-Arden was estimated at 1,855. The population of its urban area, which includes adjoining Beaudesert, was 2,984.

Henley-in-Arden School is a mixed secondary school located in Henley-in-Arden in the English county of Warwickshire.Previously a community school administered by Warwickshire County Council, Henley-in-Arden School converted to academy status in August 2011. On 1 April 2019, the school joined the Arden Multi-Academy Trust (AMAT) family of schools. However, the school continues to coordinate with Warwickshire County Council for admissions. The school offers mostly GCSEs as programmes of study for pupils and is a specialist Performing Arts school with a number of high-profile alumni. Students are able to study all three of Acting, Dance and Music for their KS4 programme of study at Henley.

Rural in character, the route traces old paths and routes through the ancient Forest of Arden, Warwickshire. Venture Academy (formerly Arden Fields School) is a coeducational special school located in Henley-in-Arden, Warwickshire, England. The school admits pupils aged 9 to 16 with autism and/or a social, emotional or mental health diagnosis. Pupils come from within Warwickshire along with a small number from neighbouring authorities. Venture Academy aims to provide a welcoming, safe and stable learning environment where pupils can learn the skills of acceptable behaviour and make good academic progress. Pupils follow a standard timetable covering all core and many optional subjects, and all have the chance to take part in enrichment programs in and out of school.

Bushwood is a hamlet in Warwickshire, located three miles north of Henley in Arden and a mile west of the M40 motorway. There is no village centre as such because all the buildings in the hamlet are spread out so widely. It is named after the wood, Bush Wood, that runs through the centre of the area. The Stratford-on-Avon Canal runs along the eastern edge of the settlement. Population details can be found under Rowington. "Bushwood" is a corruption of byssopswode or Bishop's Wood, which refers to its former ownership by the bishops of Worcester, dating back to the 9th century. The wood itself is an ancient deer park, with an earthwork along its lower boundary. The manor house, Bushwood Hall, is located at the northern end of the settlement. The current building is adjacent to the site of a previous medieval structure built in 1314, of which there remains no visible evidence above ground; however the moat remains intact and contains water all the way round.
