Hethel is a small village in Norfolk, England, approximately five miles (8.0 km) south east of the market town of Wymondham, and approximately ten miles (16 km) south of the city of Norwich. According to the 2001 census, the Bracon Ash and Hethel parish covered an area of 9.84 km2 (3.80 sq mi) and had a population of 446 people within 171 households. The village gave its name to the former RAF Hethel bomber station, which has been the location of the Head Office and factory of Lotus Cars since the 1960s. The Lotus Cars test track uses sections of the old RAF Hethel runway. Hethel is noted for containing the oldest known living hawthorn tree in East Anglia and possibly in the United Kingdom (reputed to be more than 700 years old). Planted in the 13th century, "Hethel Old Thorn" (a specimen of Common Hawthorn, Crataegus monogyna)[1][2] is in the village churchyard, which is classified as the smallest reserve under the care of the British Wildlife Trusts partnership.[3]. The name 'Hethel' is derived from the older name 'Het Hill'.

Ashwellthorpe was a railway station that existed in the village of Ashwellthorpe, Norfolk, on a cutoff line between Forncett and Wymondham. This entry covers the history of the line and the station. The station and line was opened in 1881 with the passenger service being withdrawn in 1939 and the line closing in 1951 although a siding remained at the Wymondham end until 1976.

Hethel Old Thorn is a 0.025-hectare (0.062-acre) nature reserve south-west of Norwich in Norfolk. It is managed by the Norfolk Wildlife Trust.This is the smallest wildlife trust nature reserve in Britain, consisting of one ancient hawthorn tree, which may date to the thirteenth century. In 1755 its girth was recorded as 9 feet 1 inch, and it has now decayed to a much smaller size, but it is still healthy.

Ashwellthorpe and Fundenhall is a civil parish in the English county of Norfolk, situated some 6 km south-east of Wymondham and 20 km south-west of Norwich. The parish includes the villages of Ashwellthorpe and Fundenhall, which lie about 1 km apart, although rather farther by road.[1]The civil parish has an area of 9.74 km2 and in the 2001 census had a population of 756 in 301 households, the population falling to 750 at the 2011 Census. For the purposes of local government, the parish falls within the district of South Norfolk. Fundenhall was a separate parish until it was annexed by Ashwellthorpe in 1935. The combined parish was known as Ashwellthorpe until 2003, when it adopted its current name.[2][3][4]

Flordon Common is a 9.9-hectare (24-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest south-east of Wymondham in Norfolk. It is a registered common part of the Norfolk Valley Fens Special Area of Conservation.Springs emerge from this chalk valley of the River Tas, resulting in a species-rich calcareous fen, including the very rare narrow-mouthed whorl snail. On higher ground there is chalk grassland, which is traditionally managed by grazing, allowing the survival of many locally rare plants.The common is open to the public.

Forehoe and Henstead Rural Districts were adjacent rural districts in Norfolk, England from 1894 to 1935.They were formed under the Local Government Act 1894 based on rural sanitary districts of the same names, and lay generally south of Norwich. In 1935 the Wymondham parish of Forehoe RD was created a new Wymondham Urban District. The remainder, together with the whole of Henstead RD apart from an island in the River Yare, were merged to form Forehoe and Henstead Rural District. Subsequently, changes to the border with Norwich County Borough were made in 1968. In 1974, the merged district was abolished under the Local Government Act 1972, and became part of the South Norfolk district.

Hapton is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Tharston and Hapton, in the South Norfolk district, in the county of Norfolk, England, located about nine miles south of Norwich. In 1931 the parish had a population of 159. On 1 April 1935 the parish was abolished and merged with Tharston.The villages name means 'H(e)abba's farm/settlement'.

The population at the 2011 census had increased to 460.St Nicholas Church, with no tower, is Grade 1 listed, like most other churches in South Norfolk, in the Domesday Book of 1086, with a church and a rectory.Centered around the Grade II listed war memorial most of the amenities have been converted into housing including a Bakery, Post-Office, School. The B1113 road runs through the village, which is about 6+1⁄2 miles (10.5 km) south of the city of Norwich. England's smallest official nature reserve Hethel Thorn is accessed from the west of the village.The children's play-park attracts visitors from the neighboring villages due to its excellent facilities and quiet location.Bracon Ash Common is a small area of woodland and ponds running adjacent to Mergate Lane. A public sculpture of 'Bracon Ash Village Sign' is located opposite the village hall. Designed by Jonathan Stevens as a project whilst studying at Wymondham College in 1994.

Royal Air Force Hethel or more simply RAF Hethel is a former Royal Air Force station (ICAO: EGSK) which was used by both the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) and the Royal Air Force (RAF) during the Second World War. The airfield is located 7 miles (11 km) south west of Norwich, Norfolk, England and is now owned by Lotus Cars.

East Carleton is a civil parish in the English county of Norfolk. It covers an area of 4.96 km2 (1.92 sq mi) and had a population of 358 in 115 households at the 2001 census, the population falling to 343 at the 2011 census. For the purposes of local government, it falls within the district of South Norfolk.
