Maindee

Victoria is both a community (civil parish) and an electoral ward (division) of the city of Newport. The ward is bounded by the River Usk to the west and south, Newport Bridge, Clarence Place, Church Road and Christchurch Road to the north, Victoria Avenue, Wharf Road (as far as the railway bridge), a section of the Great Western Main Line as far as (but not including) Soho Street, Telford Street and Lilleshall Street to the east. The area is governed by the Newport City Council. The ward includes the district of Maindee, as well as the home of Newport Rugby Club and the annual Maindee Festival. The district of Victoria, Maindee in particular, is home to a large Asian population. Many people are of Pakistani and Bangladeshi origin and there are now a slowly increasing number of Kurdish refugees.

The Church of St John is a Victorian Church in Wales parish church in Maindee, Newport, Wales.

Newport Bus (the operating name of Newport Transport Limited) is the main provider of bus services in the city of Newport, Wales. A limited company whose shares are wholly owned by Newport City Council, it is one of the few remaining municipal bus companies in the United Kingdom.

Royal Ordnance Factory Newport, commonly known as ROF Newport, was a World War II munitions factory in Wales that produced guns. The factory began construction in 1940 and was completed within a year, producing its first weapons by January 1941. The site employed around 2,000 people during the war in the manufacture of anti-tank and anti-aircraft weapons; one of the main weapons built at the factory was the Bofors 40 mm gun. Laura Knight's wartime painting Ruby Loftus Screwing a Breech Ring was created at the site, with factory worker Ruby Loftus being the subject.

Barnardtown is a small area to the east of Newport Bridge in the city of Newport. It is roughly bounded by Duckpool Road, Church Road and Caerleon Road. It lies within the electoral ward of Saint Julian's and to the west is Riverside. The original houses in the area were very slum-like tight rows with people living in appalling conditions. A local religious man Edward Barnard invested into building small new terraces. A condition of building the "new village" was that there were to be no pubs in the area and the names of the streets are that of church figures, e.g. Morden Road, Canon Street, Bishop Street, &c.Today the area features the Grade II listed Newport ODEON building and Rodney Parade stadium, home of Newport County A.F.C., Newport RFC, and the Dragons rugby franchise. Redevelopment of Clarence Place has been underway with a number of historic buildings either being renovated, such as the ODEON, or for sale, such as historic Newport music venue of the 1990s, TJ's.

Beechwood is a community (civil parish) and coterminous electoral ward (division) of the city of Newport. The community is bounded by the River Usk to the north, Renoir Road, Beechwood Road, Chepstow Road and Windsor Road to the east, the Great Western Main Line to the south, and Victoria Avenue, Norfolk Road, Avalon Drive, behind Reynolds Close, Badminton Road, and east of The Moorings to the west. The area contains, and is named after Beechwood Park.

The Newport power stations supplied electricity to the town of Newport and the surrounding area from 1895 to the late 1970s. The original power station was in Llanarth Street which supplied electric lighting; a larger station, known as the East power station, was built in Corporation Road from 1903. They were owned and operated by Newport Corporation prior to the nationalisation of the British electricity supply industry in 1948. The East power station was redeveloped in the 1920s and 1940s to meet the increased demand for electricity.

George Street Bridge [1] is a crossing of the River Usk in the community of Victoria in Newport, South Wales. It is a Grade II* listed structure.

St Julians (Welsh: Sain Silian) is a community and coterminous electoral district (ward) of the City of Newport, South Wales. The community is bounded by the River Usk to the west and north, The Moorings, Badminton Road, Reynolds Close, Rembrandt Way, Constable Drive, Heather Road, Kelly Road, Merlin Crescent, Avalon Drive, across St Julian's Road and Norfolk Road to the east, Christchurch Road, Church Road, Clarence Place and Newport Bridge to the south. The ward includes the districts of Barnardtown, Riverside, and most of St. Julians (the rest being in Beechwood ward).

Somerton railway station is a proposed station to serve the Somerton suburb of the city of Newport, Wales. Following the decision by First Minister Mark Drakeford in 2019 to reject the M4 relief road proposal, up to £1.4bn is available through the Welsh Government's borrowing facility for improving infrastructure in and around the M4. Reopenings in Newport have as a result been again debated. The most recent plan, as of October 2023, envisages the station to be situated adjacent to the Somerton Road bridge, with access from Fairfax Road.

Beechwood Park is a thirty-acre public park situated in the eastern Beechwood area of the city of Newport, South Wales. The park is listed on the Cadw/ICOMOS Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in Wales.

Rodney Parade is a stadium in the city of Newport, South Wales. It is located on the east bank of the River Usk in Newport city centre. The ground is on Rodney Road, a short walk from the city's central bus and railway stations via Newport Bridge or Newport City footbridge. There is no spectator car park at the ground but a number of multi-storey car parks are nearby. Rodney Parade is the home ground of Dragons RFC, one of the four Welsh regional rugby union teams. It is also the home ground of Newport County football club. It is the third-oldest sports venue in the Football League, after the Racecourse Ground and Deepdale. Stadium capacity is reduced from rugby levels for football matches. In 2017 the rugby union club Newport RFC sold Rodney Parade to the Welsh Rugby Union and subsequently in 2021 Newport RFC relocated to Newport Stadium. In 2023 a private consortium purchased Rodney Parade and the Dragons regional rugby union team from the WRU. Newport Squash Rackets Club has four squash courts at Rodney Parade.
