St Peter's Well is a rare surviving example of a holy well house or covered well that was built over the waters of a spring in a field below Greenhill Farm, located off Chapel Road near Houston in Renfrewshire, parish of Houston and Kilellan, south-west Scotland.

Houston and Killellan is a civil parish in the county and council area of Renfrewshire in the west central Lowlands of Scotland. It contains the villages of Houston and Crosslee, as well as a number of smaller settlements including Barochan and Killellan in its rural hinterland. Under the name Houston, the civil parish's boundaries are similar to that of the modern community council area, the most local level of local government in Scotland. The parish is situated in the Gryffe Valley, 5 miles (9 km) north of Paisley, covering an area of 11.9 sq. miles (30.9 km2) and bordering the parishes of Kilmacolm, Erskine and Kilbarchan. It also forms an ecclesiastical parish in the Church of Scotland. The parish Killellan or Killallan is subject to a number of different spellings.

Houston House is an 18th-century mansion, about 1 mile (1.6 km) north and east of Bridge of Weir, Renfrewshire, Scotland, north of the village of Houston. It incorporates remains of a 16th century castle.

The siege of Dumbarton was a successful four-month siege of the Brittonic fortress at Dumbarton Rock in 870, initiated by the Viking leaders Amlaíb, King of Dublin, and Ímar. Dumbarton was capital of the Kingdom of Alt Clut, the only surviving Brittonic kingdom outside of Wales. It represented a valuable target for the Viking invaders, who were likely motivated by strategic considerations, as well as loot. The attackers may have wished to remove Alt Clut as a maritime power, and the location and defensiveness of Dumbarton itself was of major value. The siege lasted four-months, a length of time unprecedented in the history of Viking warfare in the British Isles, and ended when the defenders ran out of water. After the siege numerous prisoners were taken and sold into slavery in Dublin. Following this defeat, the power centre of Alt Clut moved to the vicinity of Govan, and it became known as the Kingdom of Strathclyde. The loss of Dumbarton caused the kingdom to increasingly fall under the influence of the Scottish Kingdom of Alba.

Dumbarton Castle (Scottish Gaelic: Dùn Breatainn, pronounced [t̪unˈpɾʲɛʰt̪ɪɲ]; Welsh: Alt Clut) has the longest recorded history of any stronghold in Scotland. It sits on a volcanic plug of basalt known as Dumbarton Rock which is 240 feet (73 m) high and overlooks the Scottish town of Dumbarton.

The Battle of Alclud Ford was a battle between the post-Roman Celtic Britons of Rheged and the Anglo-Saxon Kingdom of Bernicia around c. 580CE. The fighting may have taken place at an unknown ford near Alt Clut, the original name for Dumbarton Rock, which may also be used for the entire ancient Kingdom of Strathclyde. The battle is recorded in two poems in the Book of Taliesin.

YOUR Radio (formerly Castle Rock FM) was an Independent Local Radio station, serving Argyll & Bute, Inverclyde and West Dunbartonshire. It was VT (Voice Tracked) and was owned and operated by Nation Broadcasting Group. Since 31 March 2020, the station had been relaying Nation Radio Scotland on its transmitters as a response to UK government restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Dumbarton Football Stadium, commonly known as The Rock, is a stadium in Dumbarton, Scotland, used mostly for football matches; it is the home ground of Dumbarton Football Club and, as of 2023, Broomhill Football Club. The stadium has a capacity of 2,020, and was built in 2000 after the move away from Dumbarton's former home, Boghead Park. It was built on part of the site formerly occupied by Denny's shipyard. The stadium is 5–10 minutes walk from Dumbarton East railway station on the North Clyde Line. Dumbarton have the third smallest stadium in the SPFL.

Dumbarton East railway station serves the town of Dumbarton in the West Dunbartonshire region of Scotland. The station is managed by ScotRail and is served by trains on the North Clyde Line, 15 miles (24 km) west of Glasgow Queen Street.

Houston ( HOO-stən; Scots: Houstoun), is a village in the council area of Renfrewshire and the larger historic county of the same name in the west central Lowlands of Scotland. Houston lies within the Gryffe Valley on the banks of the River Gryffe 6 miles (10 km) north-west of Paisley and is the largest settlement in the civil parish of Houston and Killellan, which covers the neighbouring village of Crosslee and a number of smaller settlements in the villages' rural hinterland. The village grew around a 16th-century castle and parish church dedicated to Saint Peter, which gave the area its former name of Kilpeter ("Cille Pheadair" in Scottish Gaelic). The present-day old village dates mainly back to the 18th century and was a planned community, replacing earlier buildings. Historically, the economy was based around agriculture and, in common with a number of other Renfrewshire villages, cotton weaving. The old village was designated as a conservation area in 1968. From the middle of the 20th century, a larger area of residential settlement expanded the village into nearby areas such as Craigends, removing the open country between Houston and Crosslee. These additions to the village have expanded its population considerably, changing its character chiefly to a dormitory settlement for nearby Glasgow and Paisley with a largely service-based economy.

Strathgryffe or Gryffe Valley (Scottish Gaelic: Srath Ghriobhaidh) is the strath of River Gryffe, which lies within the historic county of Renfrewshire in the west central Lowlands of Scotland. Strathgryffe also gives its name to a feudal lordship, which covered the western portion of Renfrewshire in the 12th century and formed the nucleus of the county. The land was originally associated with the House of Stewart, who went on to be monarchs of Scotland and later Great Britain. The settlements of Strathgryffe are divided between the council areas of Inverclyde and Renfrewshire and largely follow the flow of the River Gryffe, from Kilmacolm in the far west to where the river meets the Black Cart Water between Houston and Inchinnan. Other significant settlements include Bridge of Weir, Quarriers Village and Crosslee.

Milton (historically Milton of Colquhoun) is a village in West Dunbartonshire, Scotland. It lies about one mile (two kilometres) east of Dumbarton, on the A82 Glasgow-Loch Lomond road and below the Overtoun Bridge. It previously had a primary school, closed in 2004. The first school was in what is now quite an old building on the road to Overtoun. The second school building was on the main road, it was still open in the early 2000s. Milton also has an SSPCA animal rescue centre. It also includes Dumbuck Quarry, which has removed a large part of Dumbuck Hill.The North Clyde Line railway runs past the village, but it has never had a station – the closest are about one mile (two kilometres) away, at Dumbarton East to the west and Bowling to the east. Its main claim to fame is that it was the home of Jackie Stewart, the racing driver. His family ran the Dumbuck Garage in the village. Another native is Ian Napier, the fighter ace.Milton House is an 18th-century mansion located on Milton Brae to the north of the village. It is a Category B listed building.
