Allerbach (Warme Bode)

Elend is a district of the town of Oberharz am Brocken in the Harz District, in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. It lies in the Bode valley in the High Harz in central Germany, at a height of 505 m above NN. This part of the valley is known locally as Elendstal. Elend is located near the former Inner German Border between West and East Germany. Its population is 318 (2021).

The Rauher Jakob (literally "Rough James") is a hilltop between Tanne and Elend in the Harz mountains of central Germany. It is 568.6 metres above sea level. In the vicinity are the sources of the Spielbach and Allerbach, two tributary streams of the Warme Bode. The Ramsenhöhe is a sub-peak of the Rauher Jakob with a height of 565 metres AMSL.

The Helenenruh ("Helen's Rest") is a 629 metre high rocky ridge near the village of Elend in the Harz Mountains of central Germany. Today there is a refuge hut and rest area here, from which there are outstanding views over the village of Schierke across to the Brocken, the highest mountain in the Harz. Other sights are the gorge of the Cold Bode river and the Schnarcherklippen rocks. The Helenenruh is checkpoint no. 21 in the Harzer Wandernadel hiking system.

The Brunnenbach is a 12 km (7.5 mi) long, right-hand tributary of the Warme Bode, which flows to the west and south of Braunlage in Goslar district in the north German state of Lower Saxony.

The Barenberg, also called the Bärenberg or Bärenkopf, is a mountain, 695.5 m above sea level (NN), in the Harz Mountains of Germany near the village of Schierke, Harz county, in the state of Saxony-Anhalt.

The Sorge Border Museum (German: Grenzmuseum Sorge, 511 m above sea level (NN)) is an open-air museum that is open to the public and free of charge near Sorge in the Harz Mountains of central Germany. It is located immediately by the former Inner German Border, southeast of Braunlage and aims to recall the division of Germany into East and West Germany. In the border museum, elements of the original East German border may be seen, including a section of border fence, the dog runs, parts of the signal fence and the patrol road made of concrete slabs, a watchtower (a so-called B Tower) and an East German border post. Immediately on the state border between Saxony-Anhalt and Lower Saxony is the "Ring of Commemoration" (Ring der Erinnerungen), which was created by the environmental and landscape artist, Herman Prigann, in the 1990s. Made of dead wood, the artist has created a large ring based on the concept of a witches' circle. Many birds roost in the dead hedge so formed. The museum is run by the society of the same name (Grenzmuseum Sorge) and, since 2006, has been checkpoint no. 46 in the system of checkpoints of the Harzer Wandernadel hiking network.

The Bremke is a 4.7-kilometre (2.9 mi) long headstream of the Warme Bode in Saxony-Anhalt and Lower Saxony, Germany. It rises at an elevation of 805 metres (2,641 ft) in the Harz Mountains between the Lower Saxon mountain of Wurmberg near Braunlage and the Kleiner Winterberg near Schierke in Saxony-Anhalt. For its entire length the stream forms the boundary between the two German federal states and until 1990 between East and West Germany. Even today the old East German convoy road has survived not far from the eastern bank of the stream.

Schnarcherklippen is the name of a rock formation (up to 671 m above sea level) south of the village of Schierke in the High Harz mountains of Saxony-Anhalt in central Germany. The name translates roughly to "snoring crags" or "snoring rocks".

The Scherstorklippen is a granite tor (up to 694 m above sea level (NN)) in the Harz Mountains of central Germany. It is located near the village of Schierke in the county of Harz in the state of Saxony-Anhalt. It was formed by the process of spheroidal weathering.

Sorge is a village and a former municipality in the district of Harz, in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Since 1 January 2010, it is part of the town Oberharz am Brocken. Its population is 81 (2021). The name of the town means "Worry" in German.

Schierke station (German: Bahnhof Schierke) is the railway station in the village of Schierke operated by the Harz Narrow Gauge Railways on the Brocken Railway in the Harz Mountains of central Germany. Schierke itself lies as the foot of the highest mountain in the Harz, the Brocken, and is located in the borough of Wernigerode in the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt.

The Feuersteinklippe is a rock formation in the Harz National Park in central Germany and the landmark of the nearby village of Schierke. The Feuersteinklippe is a butte made of granite, not flint (Feuerstein = "firestone" or flint) as the name suggests. It shows the spheroidal weathering typical of the Harz region. The striking rock formation is located at a height of 690 metres and is surrounded by woods. It lies to the north of Schierke station. The name Feuersteinklippe is derived from the Schierker Feuersteinwiesen (Schierke Feuerstein meadows) that lie to the southeast, which in turn were named after the cultic fires or signal beacons originally lit at this spot. An information board on the rocks recalls the visit of Goethe and the painter, Georg Melchior Kraus, who spent time here on 4 September 1784 in geological studies. The well-known herbal liqueur, Schierker Feuerstein, which is made in Schierke, is named after the rocks. The label portrays the rock formation.
