Siege of Blair Castle

Blair Castle (in Scottish Gaelic: Caisteil Bhlàir) stands in its grounds near the village of Blair Atholl in Perthshire in Scotland. It is the ancestral home of the Clan Murray, and was historically the seat of their chief, the Duke of Atholl, though the current (12th) Duke, Bruce Murray, lives in South Africa. The castle stands in Glen Garry, and commands a strategic position on the main route (now the A9 road) through the central Scottish Highlands. The castle is a category A listed building, and the grounds are included in the Inventory of Gardens and Designed Landscapes in Scotland, the national listing of significant gardens.

Old Blair is a tiny village of 18th century stone houses in Perth and Kinross, Scotland, adjoining and overlooking the grounds of Blair Castle. It is the site of St Bride's Kirk, the original church of Blair Atholl parish. This probably early Christian foundation was replaced by a new building in Blair Atholl village in the 19th century. There are substantial remains of the unroofed original church, set within an unwalled graveyard, though its western tower has been removed. The ancient building is flanked on the south side by a 'laird's aisle' of 16th century date, which encloses several monuments of the family of the Dukes of Atholl. John Graham of Claverhouse, 'Bonnie Dundee' (d 1689) is also buried in the vault below the aisle. The modern burial ground of the ducal family lies within railings beside the mound on which the church is set. The main medieval road north through the Central Highlands of Scotland formerly passed through Old Blair and on through Glen Banvie to the Minigaig Pass. It was in use up to the 18th century. The 'village street' of Old Blair was built on either side of it.

Blair Atholl railway station is a railway station serving the town of Blair Atholl, Perth and Kinross, Scotland. The station is managed by ScotRail and is on the Highland Main Line, 35 miles 9 chains (56.5 km) from Perth, between Pitlochry and Dalwhinnie. There is a crossover at the north end of the station to allow trains to turn back if the line south to Pitlochry is closed.

The Atholl Arms Hotel is a hotel and restaurant in Blair Atholl, Perth and Kinross, Scotland. Standing on the B8079, it is a Category C listed building dating to 1832.

Blair Atholl Watermill is Scotland's oldest working watermill, located in Blair Atholl, Perth and Kinross, and dating to around 1830. There has been a mill on the site since at least the 1590s. After it stopped being used, in 1929, it became a store. In 1977 it was restored by John Ridley and the last miller's assistant, who could still remember the previous mill. In 1993 it passed to James and Mary Bruce. Today, the building is used as a tea room, owned by the Bruces' children.The mill's waterwheel is powered by the River Tilt, and can only be used when the river is in full spate.

Black Island Platform railway station, Blair Atholl, Perth and Kinross, Scotland, was located at an area known as the Black Island beside the River Garry. The station was used during WWII by forestry workers and was not open for use by the general public. Standing on the old Inverness and Perth Junction Railway route it lay 36 mi 16 chains (58.3 km) from Perth railway station.

Bridge of Tilt (Scottish Gaelic: Drochaid Theilt) is a village in Perthshire, Scotland, built around the River Tilt (Scottish Gaelic: Abhainn Teilt), near its confluence with the River Garry. It is 5+3⁄4 miles (9.3 kilometres) northwest of Pitlochry. The newer part of the village is continuous with Blair Atholl, only separated by the River Tilt. The village is located primarily on the B8079 between Pitlochry and Dunalastair Water, but the older part of the village (Old Bridge of Tilt) is located further up the River Tilt. The A9 runs past the River Garry to the south of Bridge of Tilt, and connects the village with Newtonmore and Inverness in the north and Pitlochry, Perth and Stirling in the south.

The River Tilt is a tributary of the River Garry in Perth and Kinross, Scotland. It is sourced from the confluence of Tarf Water and the Allt Garbh Buidhe, from which point it flows in a southwesterly direction down the fault-aligned Glen Tilt. In the vicinity of Marble Lodge, it turns gradually to a more southerly course and, at Blair Atholl, enters the left bank of the Garry after being bisected by two islands. The river's elevation drops 270 metres (890 ft) between source and mouth.It is crossed by five bridges on its course, the last one being the Bridge of Tilt, at Blair Atholl village, which carries the traffic of the B8079.Woodland walks from nearby Blair Castle pass beside the river.

Blair Atholl (from the Scottish Gaelic: Blàr Athall, originally Blàr Ath Fhodla) is a village in Perthshire, Scotland, built about the confluence of the Rivers Tilt and Garry in one of the few areas of flat land in the midst of the Grampian Mountains. The Gaelic place-name Blair, from blàr, 'field, plain', refers to this location. Atholl, which means 'new Ireland', from the archaic Ath Fhodla is the name of the surrounding district. On 13 March 2008, it was announced that Blair Atholl (together with some other Highland Perthshire villages) would be included in the Cairngorms National Park. This change was made at the request of the people of the town. The Forest of Atholl already formed part of the Cairngorms.

Lude House (also known as House of Lude or Lude Estate) is a Category B listed country house and estate in Blair Atholl, Perth and Kinross, Scotland. It was completed in 1839, and it received its historic designation in 1971. The building was designed by William Burn.Today's building replaces an earlier structure, owned by the Robertson family, which was demolished in the early 19th century.As of 2022, it is the seat of Andrew Grant, whose family has owned the estate since 1938. The McInroy family owned it in the 19th century.The estate's six cottages are available for rental.Lude Airfield (ICAO airport code GB-0329; also known as Blair Atholl Airfield), located around 0.8 miles (1.3 km) to the south, is owned by the estate.

Balavoulin, also known as Milton Lodge, is a Category B listed building in Blair Atholl, Perth and Kinross, Scotland.The building is two storeys with an attic, and its architect was Ramsay Traquair.James Syme Drew, a major-general in the British Army, was living at Balavoulin at the time of his death in 1955.

Fincastle Chapel, also known as Glenfincastle Chapel, is a former church building in Glen Fincastle, 2.6 mi (4.2 km) south of Blair Atholl, Perth and Kinross, Scotland. It is named for the glen in which it stands.Standing at the apex of a hairpin curve of the B8019 Killiecrankie-to-Tummel Bridge road, where the road crosses Fincastle Burn, the chapel is believed to have been built in 1843, according to a datestone at the site. Inside the chapel there is a World War I memorial plaque honouring five local men who died in the conflict.Another plaque is to the memory of Charlotte Rachel Barbour (née Fowler), who was a "friend of the children of Glen Fincastle 1930".Charlotte's son, George Freeland Barbour (1882–1946), was for many years a worshipper and preacher at the chapel.A tablet was placed, to give thanks, by the family of Helen Victoria Barbour (1891–1982): "For 63 years her home in this glen was a place of laughter, joy and inspiration for countless people from far and near."The chapel is shown as a free church on the first-edition Ordnance Survey maps, and as a school on the second edition.An octagonal wooden structure, which is not shown on the early maps, stands to the southeast of the chapel.
