Lost Pines Power Project 1

The Sim Gideon Power Plant is a 620 megawatt (MW), natural gas fired power plant located near Bastrop, Texas in Bastrop County, Texas. It is owned and operated by the Lower Colorado River Authority. The Sim Gideon Power Plant consists of three generating units that operate via simple cycle combustion turbine utilizing natural gas. The plant, along with Lost Pines Power Project 1, is part of the Lost Pines Power Park. Three generating units compose the Sim Gideon Power Plant: Unit 1, completed in 1965, with a generating capacity of 140 MW Unit 2, completed in 1968, with a generating capacity of 140 MW Unit 3, completed in 1971, with a generating capacity of 340 MWCooling water is provided by Lake Bastrop, a 900-acre (360 ha) freshwater reservoir, and four wells that produce groundwater from the Simsboro Aquifer.

Lake Bastrop is a reservoir on Spicer Creek in the Colorado River basin 3 miles (5 km) northeast of the town of Bastrop in central Bastrop County, Texas, United States. The reservoir was formed in 1964 by the construction of a dam by the Lower Colorado River Authority. The lake serves primarily as a power plant cooling pond for the Sim Gideon Power Plant operated by the LCRA and the Lost Pines Power Project 1, owned by GenTex Power Corporation, a wholly owned affiliate of the LCRA. Lake Bastrop also serves as a venue for outdoor recreation, including fishing, boating, swimming, camping and picnicking, and is maintained at a constant level year round. Approximately one quarter of the shoreline of the Lake is privately owned by the Capitol Area Council, Boy Scouts of America. This property is used for the Lost Pines Scout Reservation, consisting of Cub World at Camp Tom Wooten, for Cub Scouts and Lost Pines Boy Scout Camp, for Boy Scouts. The Scouts leased the property from the LCRA starting in 1965, buying the land in the late 1990s.

Bastrop State Park is a state park in Bastrop County in Central Texas. The park was established in 1938 and consists of stands of loblolly pines mixed with post oak and junipers.

Circle D-KC Estates is a census-designated place (CDP) in Bastrop County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,393 at the 2010 census.

The Bastrop County Complex fire was the most destructive wildfire in Texas history, striking areas of Bastrop County in September and October 2011. Three separate fires started on September 4, 2011, as a result of strong winds caused by nearby Tropical Storm Lee, and merged into one large blaze that burned east of the city of Bastrop. Four people were killed by the fire, which destroyed 1,673 homes and inflicted an estimated $325 million of insured property damage. The fire furthermore caused severe damage to Bastrop State Park and the ancient Lost Pines Forest. After being largely contained in late September, the fire was declared controlled on October 10. The fire moved underground later in October and was finally extinguished on October 29.

Camp Swift is a census-designated place (CDP) in Bastrop County, Texas, United States. The population was 6,383 at the 2010 census. Camp Swift began as a United States Army training base built in 1942. It is named after Major General Eben Swift.

Bastrop High School is a public high school in Bastrop, Texas (USA) the UIL classifies as a 5A school. It is part of the Bastrop Independent School District located in central Bastrop County. In 2015, the school was rated "Met Standard" by the Texas Education Agency.

Genesis High School is a secondary alternative school located in Bastrop, Texas, in the Bastrop Independent School District. The school serves all of BISD, including the cities of Bastrop, Cedar Creek, Red Rock, Rockne, Paige and other rural areas of Bastrop County. In 2015, the school was rated "Met Alternative Standard" by the Texas Education Agency.Genesis High School is an alternative school and does not have school team sports; however, it does offer physical education, also known as PE.

Bastrop Independent School District is a public school district in Bastrop, Texas, United States. The district serves the communities of Bastrop, Camp Swift, Cedar Creek, Circle D-KC Estates, Paige, Red Rock, Rockne, Wyldwood, and other rural areas of Bastrop County.

The Bastrop County Courthouse is a historic courthouse built in 1883 at 803 Pine St, Bastrop, Texas. The Renaissance Revival style building was designed by Jasper N. Preston and F.E. Ruffini. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 20, 1975.Bastrop County was organized in 1837 and several houses served as early courthouses. A brick courthouse with a jail was built on the courthouse square in 1851 and used until it burned in 1883. The present courthouse was erected immediately after the fire. The courthouse is a three-story, stuccoed-brick structure with a copper-domed clock tower in the center of a flat roof. Originally not stuccoed, it was added in a remodeling in 1924. Also at this time, the dome was lowered and various architectural details were removed, giving the building a Neoclassical look. The addition of a wing to the south of the original building occurred in 1953-1954. The Austin architectural firm of Page, Southerland, and Page designed the south wing. The three-story tan and red brick old Bastrop County Jail, opened in 1892, also stands on the courthouse square. The jail was remodeled in 1925, including improvements to the ventilating, heating, and sewage systems. In 1971, a new jail and sheriff's office were built on the courthouse square immediately to the southeast of the courthouse. The building ceased to be a jail in 1974 and was converted to office space. The courthouse and jail were renovated again in 1990. The courthouse square in Bastrop is surrounded mostly by houses and a church as opposed to the commercial buildings that surround the typical Texas courthouse square. The county jail was moved to a new sheriff's office complex a mile southeast of the courthouse, and an annex to the courthouse was added on the square and dedicated in 2004.

The Jenkins House is a historic home in Bastrop, Texas. It was built about 1836 for Sarah Jenkins. Her first husband was killed by Indians. Her second was killed at the Battle of the Alamo. The Jenkins House started as a single-room log cabin and then was enlarged to a two-room log cabin with a "dog-trot" between rooms. A kitchen and dining "ell" was added in subsequent years, and finally, the dog-trot opening was enclosed as a hall, the house sided with clapboard, and a porch running the length of the building added to create its present Victorian appearance. The house was designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1964. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on December 22, 1978.

Bastrop () is a city and the county seat of Bastrop County, Texas, United States. It is located about 30 mi (48 km) southeast of Austin and is part of the Greater Austin metropolitan area. The population was 7,218 according to the 2010 census.
