Luper Cemetery

Luper, Oregon is a ghost town in Lane County, Oregon, United States. Originally a train station on the Oregon and California Railroad between Junction City and Eugene, Luper was located near Meadowview Road between Oregon Route 99W and Prairie Road, about 3.8 miles (6.1 km) south of Junction City. The community was named for James N. Luper, a pioneer born in 1852 in Illinois. The Luper Cemetery remains in the area. In 1970, the Oregon Genealogical Society counted 118 grave sites.James Luper's daughter, Oregon State Engineer Rhea Luper, recalled in 1927 that her father had purchased the Luper-area property around 1870, and thereafter constructed a warehouse and railroad spur. The area became a shipping point for wheat.

Prior to a number of partial annexations by the city between 1990 and 2005, Santa Clara was an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Lane County. Its current population is approximately 13,000.According to U.S. Census Bureau figures, the racial composition of Santa Clara's population is 91 percent white, 0.8 percent black, 1.2 percent American Indian, 1.2 percent Asian, 0.2 percent Pacific Islander, 2.2 percent some other race, and 3.4 percent two or more races. Latinos, who may be of any race, form 4.7 percent of Santa Clara's population.

The McKenzie River is a 90-mile (145 km) tributary of the Willamette River in western Oregon in the United States. It drains part of the Cascade Range east of Eugene and flows westward into the southernmost end of the Willamette Valley. It is named for Donald McKenzie, a Scottish Canadian fur trader who explored parts of the Pacific Northwest for the Pacific Fur Company in the early 19th century. As of the 21st century, six large dams have been built on the McKenzie and its tributaries.

Bethel School District (52) is a school district in the U.S. state of Oregon. It serves the Bethel neighborhood in northwest Eugene. During the 2018–19 school year approximately 5,450 students were enrolled in Bethel's 11 schools, making it the third largest school district in Lane County. Bethel School District was formed in 1948 with the consolidation of the Bethel, Irving, Clear Lake, Danebo, and Malabon school districts. Willamette High School opened in September 1949 with an enrollment of 381. Students in the class of 1950 were WHS's first graduates. Alvadore was the last of six small districts to join Bethel in 1960. Tom Powers served as the first superintendent from 1948 to 1970. The auditorium at Willamette High School is named in his honor. Ray Klappenbach served from 1970 to 1987. Kent Hunsaker was superintendent from 1987 to 2003. Steve Hull 2003–2005, Tim Keeley 2005–2006, Colt Gill 2006–2016, Chris Parra from 2016 to 2020, and Dr. Kraig Sproles from 2020 to today.

The neighborhood boundaries are Oregon Route 99 on the east, the former Southern Pacific Coos Bay Line on the south, Green Hill Road on the west and Clear Lake Road on the north.The neighborhood combines the names of two historic communities. The original location of Bethel is now within the Trainsong neighborhood.Bethel School District is separate from the main Eugene school district.
