Gravdal, Bergen

Gravdalsvatnet is a lake in the western part of Bergen Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The 0.21-square-kilometre (52-acre) lake is located immediately south of the village of Gravdal in the borough of Laksevåg, west of the center of the city of Bergen. National Road 555 runs along the south shore, just east of the mountain Lyderhorn.

The Royal Norwegian Naval Academy (RNoNA, Sjøkrigsskolen in Norwegian) is located at Laksevåg in Bergen. It was formally established 27 October 1817 in Frederiksvern. The institution educates officers for the Royal Norwegian Navy.

Nygård Church (Norwegian: Nygård kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Bergen Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the Gravdal neighborhood in the city of Bergen. It is the church for the Nygård parish which is part of the Bergen domprosti (arch-deanery) in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The white, brick church was built in a fan-shaped design in 1972 using plans drawn up by the architect Arvid Jacobson from the firm of Einar Vaardal-Lunde. The church seats about 520 people.

Kvarven Fort was a mountain fort strategically located by the main shipping channel of the Byfjorden leading to Bergen, Norway.

Lyderhorn is a mountain in the city of Bergen in Vestland county, Norway. It is one of "De syv fjell", the seven mountains surrounding the city centre, and the starting location of Bergen Turlag's annual trip of the mountains. It is located by Liavatnet approximately 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) west of the city center. Due to its prominent visibility from the seas, it has historically been a navigational mark for sailors. The 329-metre (1,079 ft) tall Ørnafjellet is an adjacent peak, and below Ørnafjellet are the two lakes Skåleviksvatnet and Søre Skåleviksvatnet. North of Ørnafjellet is Kvarven fort, a strategic point during World War II, still featuring several bunkers and cannon positions used in the defense of Bergen. Lyderhorn, Ørnafjellet and Kvarven are popular hiking areas. Folklore has it that Lyderhorn was a gathering location for witches on Midsummer night, Valborg night (the night of May 1), and at Yule.

Laksevåg is a borough of the city of Bergen in Vestland county, Norway. The borough is located in the western part of the municipality. Historically, the area was called Laxevaag, and it was a separate municipality until 1972 when it was merged into Bergen.The borough of Laksevåg has residential areas on the hillside of the mountain Damsgårdsfjellet facing the Puddefjorden. By the fjord itself are several industrial buildings, many of them connected with the maritime industry. The rococo-style Damsgård Manor is located in the borough. Like the neighboring borough of Fyllingsdalen, many of the neighborhoods of Laksevåg consist of apartment buildings, especially in the area around the main service centre, the Vestkanten shopping centre. The main road to Sotra passes through the Loddefjord area in western Laksevåg.

Damsgårdsfjellet is a mountain in the city of Bergen in Vestland county, Norway. The 284-metre (932 ft) tall mountain lies west of Melkeplassen and it is one of the seven mountains surrounding the city center of Bergen.

Kjøkkelvik is a mostly residential neighborhood of the city of Bergen in Vestland county, Norway. The neighborhood is located on the west side of the large mountain Lyderhorn in the borough of Laksevåg, along the coast of the Byfjorden. The Norwegian Diver School is located at Kjøkkelvik. The local multi-sports team is Kjøkkelvik IL. The southern base of the Askøy Bridge is located at Kjøkkelvik.

The Damsgård Tunnel (Norwegian: Damsgårdstunnelen) is a road tunnel in the city of Bergen in Vestland county, Norway. It consists of two tubes, each of which carries two lanes of traffic through the Damsgårdsfjellet mountain between the neighborhoods of Lyngbø and Gyldenpris and the onwards towards the city centre. The northern end of the tunnel lies adjacent to the entrance to the Løvstakk Tunnel and the Puddefjord Bridge. The tunnel is one of the major arterial highways leading west from the city centre. The tube that carries eastbound traffic was opened in 1992 and it is 2,360-metre (7,740 ft) long, while the other tube opened the following year and it is slightly shorter at 2,342-metre (7,684 ft) long. The Damsgård Tunnel is part of Norwegian National Road 555 which runs from Fjell to Bergen's city centre. The average daily traffic through the Damsgård Tunnel was 35,127 vehicles in 2007, up from 29,336 in 2000.

Byfjorden (Norwegian Nynorsk and Bokmål: /byːfjɔrn/, /-ɔɾn/; Bokmål: also /-ɔɳ/; Bergensk: usually /-ɔʁn/) is a fjord in Vestland county, Norway. The 15-kilometre (9.3 mi) long fjord separates the island of Askøy from the mainland Bergen Peninsula, passing right north of the city of Bergen on the mainland. The western entrance to Byfjorden is between the village of Drotningsvik in Laksevåg borough, Bergen, and the village of Marikoven on the island of Askøy in Askøy municipality. The northern entrance to the fjord is between the village of Ask on Askøy and Mjølkeråen in the borough of Åsane in Bergen. On the northern end, it connects with the Salhusfjorden and Herdlefjorden. There is one road crossing over the Byfjorden: the Askøy Bridge, which crosses near the western end of the fjord. The name literally means city-fjord, and it is so named because of its importance as a transportation route into and out of the city of Bergen.

Olsvik is a neighborhood in the city of Bergen in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the western part of the borough of Laksevåg, just west of the mountain Lyderhorn. The area is dominated by low-rise residential areas. It features Olsvik School, Olsvikåsen Upper Secondary School, and Olsvik Church. Olsvik is east of Godvik, west of Kjøkkelvik, north of Loddefjorddalen and Storavatnet, and south of the Byfjorden. It consists of the basic statistical units Festeråsen, Olsvikstallen, Olsvikfjellet, Olsvikmarka, Fredheim, Olsvikåsen, and Brønndalen. As of 2009, it had 4,878 residents and covered 1.36 square kilometres (0.53 sq mi).
